If you disconnect the incoming hose from the transmission going to the radiator, use a small amount of compressed air and blow back in the line. What it does, is blow back through the filter and clears it. It will eventually clog again. i actually ran my Civic like this for about 70,000 miles. I kept a can of compressed air and hose that I made to attach to the transmission hose, and had it down to about a 6 minute process. Just be careful not to use a lot of pressure, and a slightly warm engine helps. When it's cold it will blow right back at you. Also, if you take the transmission dipstick out, you will actually hear it clear, gurgle and blow air.

Great work Jen . I have one tip for you that you will thank me for someday . Although Chris has likely told you already , always be VERY aware where your fingers will land when the bolt or nut you are cracking comes loose . When the bolt cracks , your hand and fingers will SLAM into whatever is in their path ! It happened AND continues to happen to everyone . It's not something that happens only once . I have many scars on my hands, arms, fingers, etc. Happy wrenching !!🙂🙂

@rileysowner11 ай бұрын
Just a hint that can save lots of grief later, always open the hood and the fill cap before draining the oil. There are few things worse than taking the oil out, only to find you can't fill it up again because the hood won't release or the cap won't come off. As for dropping the drain plug, I do it frequently enough, that I was not surprised it happened.

My first car was a 86 mustang! My dad got it for me when I was 14 but he said I had to do all the work on it but he would help. it was wrecked needed new front clip and just about every panel replaced. By the time I was 16 I had it all fixed up had a 93 front clip and cobra body kit on sitting on 19’ cobra r rims it was a 5 speed with dual flow master super 40’s. All throughout high school I drove that car it was primer black sounded like a stock car and I loved it!. I have a helpful suggestion for you. I noticed the falling headliner. I have done upholstery for years. There is a material I refer to as sew foam. It’s a thin layer of foam with gray cloth attached to the face. It is designed to sew to another layer of material to give a look of for an example padded vinyl. It looks just like your headliner. Same gray color. Take down the headliner backer board. Scrape the foam off then use foam fast spray contact cement on both the foam and the backer board and the foam. Let it dry for a few minutes then start at one end and smooth it together. Be careful of wrinkles. You can not pull it off to smooth out wrinkles. It once and done. Made a lot of side money for customers when I had my shop. The mastery is cheap. Good luck.

I learned a trick from one of my uncles who was in WW-2, He told me that when you have a transmission that slips, just add about a pint of brake fluid into the transmission fluid. The Brake fluid makes all the seals expand and stops the slipping right away. I had a 54 ford Skyliner with a transmission that slipped so bad that it wouldn't move one inch. I put a pint of brake fluid in the transmission fluid and the car was instantly fixed. I drove it with no issues for about four years, till I moved up to a newer car.

OMG! You two reminded me of my wife and me when we were first married; it makes me cry. Ellen already knew how to do quite a bit, but what she didn't know she wanted to learn. My dad made sure his kids could do anything from rebuilding cars and computers to building a house from the ground up; there was nothing that my parents couldn't teach us, and I could never thank them enough. Keep learning. My wife liked to learn by doing; she’d ask about everything. About a year before she died, I told her I needed a headlight for a car we bought; the light was at a junkyard by the pharmacy where she worked. I asked if she could have them take off the light for her, but no, she went out to the junkyard after work in her work clothes, asked some guys if she could borrow a few of their tools, crawled up under the hood, and removed both lights. One of the guys told her he was jealous because his wife would never do anything like that. I miss her so much it hurts to breathe. We were married for 27 years together for 30 years; she was the best. Hold on to each other; tomorrows are never promised. Stay safe, and God bless, Christopher

I have found that once you get the front end in the air and jackstands under the car, remove the jack. This lets you crawl under from the front. Much more room to work. On removing the drain plug, as you unscrew the plug, push it up. When the plug gets to the end off the threads and ready to come out, get a good grip on the plug and pul it out quickly, this lets you control the plug and you wont get as much oil running down your arm.

I find that when I remove the oil filter, additional oil drains out the oil pan, so I don't replace the plug until after replacing the filter. This also allows more time to drip, during which I also document the oil change in the maintenance log and perhaps the sticker on the windshield, and any sealant to gasket on the plug bolt. This does involve washing hands twice in order to handle the maintenance log in the middle of the oil change, and increases risk of someone starting the car with no oil or adding oil with no drain plug, but it does result in a more complete oil change.

Tip before removing oil filters is to grab sharp punch or Philips screwdriver and poke a hole in it where the oil will completely drain out of it before you loosen the filter. Less a mess of oil getting on the ground. Just let it drip for several minutes then remove it with still a pan under it.

It's great to see a beginner giving it a go and learning new skills. You don't need to become an expert, just learning the basics on cars and using different tools can be so useful for so many things. Even just knowing that wheels can fuse themselves to the hub and need a good mule kick can be the difference between getting home or being stranded in the middle of nowhere with no service, not to mention just knowing something as simple as checking that you have all the tools to change it and your spare holds air and doesn't go flat over time when you first get a vehicle.

Ps, rotate the fastener backwards on the thread until you feel it fall off the ledge of the last lip. Then immediately counter rotate and it will thread on exactly at that point. Sometimes you can hear it too if you're real quiet. That works for the oil filter too. Because you're new at installs you don't have the angle right but the backwards rotation thing helps you a LOT. Ps perfect time to release this in case you get anxious about viewership. Early January is slow because people just want a break with the snow and all so you won't be overwhelmed by so much exposure right now.

Best way to keep from dropping the drain plug and keeping your hands clean is OTC 5961. Guys at my work give me crap for it all the time but yet I catch them using it because I keep it on the oil caddy. Oil will also drain a little faster if you take the oil cap off. Same goes for draining coolant. You could have moved the jack to get to the front drain plug easier. And that was the coil wire you took off doing the filter not a hose.

I have an 85 GT with a sunroof. My headliner was in the same shape. I made my own headliner out of eighth inch plastic board and a grey vinyl. I used my old headliner board as a pattern tho. I glued the fabric on and it worked great

In regards to your Honda...I worked for Honda rebuilding transmissions that were under warranty. Depending on your particular transmission model, there are 2 or 3 very small screen filters in the valve body that can get plugged very easily and they're only the diameter of a dime. Those transmissions rely on transmission fluid pressure to keep the trans functioning. When the clutches inside wear, those screens plug up. That's what your issue is.

Jen cracked me up with her description of items found under the seat! I liked the sound effect when she was wearing the sunglass lens.

You will be as good as you want to be. If you’re interested, you’ll do more and the experience will build up to the point where people are ask you to help them. If you’re not interested and you only want to be able say “I did that”, then that’s okay too. But there’s nothing you can’t learn to do and be just as good as anyone else, at it. Meanwhile, thanks a million for bringing us along for the ride. It’s great to see people doing stuff like that, breaking stereotypes. You’re fun to watch, you have great chemistry with Chris and when you succeed, no matter how unorthodox your method was, your smile of triumph makes the whole world a better place. Keep doing what you do.

It's still fun to watch you try different things. I have a grand daughter that changed her fuel pump when she was 7 months pregnant after watching a video I sent her and of course grandpa paid for the new fuel pump

Good luck with your new Mustang Jennifer, I sure don’t miss all of the rust on my rides. I was lucky enough to find a 64 1/2 Mustang here in San Diego. After moving here from Philadelphia.

Kudos to you. I have been working on cars all my life, and I never had the stones to crawl under one while on jack stands.

Honestly, your content and Legit Street Cars are my 2 favorites. I'm always excited when I see you have posted something new, and you never disappoint. I don't personally know another woman on this earth brave enough to attack that mouse infected interior. I love how you give us a taste of your beautiful singing from time to time. Thanks for producing this awesome content. You're the best!
