We have been tough on certain supercars in the past. New Hypercars often promise INSANE performance, let's see if the Raesr Tachyon can follow through. This EV has many things going for it, but we have some questions.

Hey Nolan- team RAESR to help clarify some of the questions about the Tachyon Speed prototype’s powertrain. As far as the horsepower claim discrepancies listed online, it comes down to the two different battery voltages we have used on the prototype. Our original Gen1.1 battery pack was over 700 volts. At that voltage, each motor could deliver slightly more than 200kw each (268hp), which adds up to just over 1600hp. After the initial press releases (listing the 1600hp number), we decided to go with a lower voltage pack because the higher voltage battery pack was quite large and didn’t allow any space for a rear passenger (something we decided was important so that the driver could share the extreme driving experience) For this reason, we decided to make a Gen1.2 pack rated at about 530volts, leading to a lower (1250ish) maximum power level for the motors (volts x amps determines the power). As far as the high torque number, the quoted amount is our motor torque. As long as the battery pack is able to provide a discharge of 2700 amps, the motors will deliver 800nm each. The motors are direct drive with no reduction, so that is the torque you “feel” at the wheels. Wheel torque is what really matters, and we are planning on much higher rpm motors for our Gen2 powertrain as well as gear reduction (multiplying the motor torque) so that wheel torque is at least double that of the Tachyon Speed prototype. The prototype is currently at the Petersen Museum in LA if anyone would like to see it in person as part of their “Hypercar” exhibit, maybe when it returns we can give y’all a ride! Thank you for taking the time to make this video, we appreciated your detailed breakdown and your support!

I think EVs will actually bring the internal combustion engine into the enthusiast clubs, like the combustion engine did to the horse. People claimed at the time, it would be the end of the horse, so far many millions of people still own and ride horses, thousands more even still farm with them. So the EV will actually save the internal combustion engine for all time.
@johnmccrossan9376
@johnmccrossan9376 2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting and unique take on it but I don't think itl play out like that. To get a horse all you need is a friend with a pregnant horse but to get and maintain an ice you need a vast support network that just doesn't exist unless you have a widespread use of the technology or insanely deep pockets. The fueling isn't as much of an issue with lng or ethanol or hydrogen if we ever figure that out but the appeal for the ultra rich, aka the only ones who could afford to keep these beautiful machines running just isn't there in the same way as it is with horses
@john2g1
@john2g1 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnmccrossan9376 Everything you said it's correct but I think you failed to understand just how rich the super rich are. Case in point Ted Turner he's not even remotely close to being super rich and yet he was able to retire from his job to go be a buffalo farmer!?! A nearly extinct animal that no longer has (had) a market for purchase. To continue to stack on to that insanity he opened up Nationwide restaurant chain and still had enough money to almost buy the entire state of Montana. By almost I mean he didn't have enough money to bribe all the people to allow him to buy the entire state of Montana. If one guy who's not even super rich could pull that off you don't think that some Uber rich friends can get together and maintain an ICE network? Cuba has been sanctioned into being dirt poor and they still maintain their ice Network from over 70 years ago without any support.
@johnmccrossan9376
@johnmccrossan9376 2 жыл бұрын
@@john2g1 I don't contest that the super rich could do this if they wanted to as far as I'm concerned it's just a question of will. With horses Its more understandable because they've been symbols of wealth for Mellenia and they have lots of fancy grooming and leather and stuff but the appeal for a mechanical machine just doesn't seem as strong for people obsessed with status. Consider that horse riding is traditionally a leisure activity, trotting through big country estates or gardens and smelling the flowers. It's something well suited for old fancy people is what I'm saying. Now I don't doubt that there's a few super rich out there with the admiration for ICEs to keep a handful of them going, but if there's maybe 20 if them in the world (probably not allowed on the public road eventually) can that really count as preserving them more so than if they were simply props in a measuem? As far as Cuba goes they have a few advantages, 1 the international production machine keeps car parts acessable to ordinary people, 2 they're working primarily with mu h older models that can be easily worked on and 3 it's more economical to keep the cars they have going so they have that incentive. Theres also the fact that the carribean climate helps to prevent rust to a degree but this isn't a problem exclusive to ICEs so not as relevant.

I mean the car has more than one motor per wheel, so if it's capable of turning freely [without any "binding"/resistance from the motors trying to spin at identical speeds], then it's basically already using torque vectoring, lol. Actual torque vectoring is a huge feat of engineering for something with a single power source splitting outputs to multiple wheels, but for vehicles with a power source at each wheel...it's implied, and just adds fluff to the car's resume.

yeh the torque vectoring shouldn't be hard, we essentially do that with fpv drones; it's how they fly and the guys programming are doing it opensource. If it's got motors on each wheel, a simple feedback loop with gyros and accelerometers and some coding and it's not hard to imagine.

7:32 EV has direct drive. 8:10 EV has a ratio. The statement that everyone uses of electric cars not needing/having transmissions is not really true. Even everyone's fav the Tesla, has what is essentially a single speed transmission. Also, at 7:05 torque numbers are HIGHER at the wheels as a result of the torque multiplied by gears (not lower) and hp (ignoring parasitic losses) would be the same at the wheels as the crank. HP=(TQ*RPM)/5252. So, HP=((4*TQ)*(RPM/4)/5252. The 4 in this scenario would be a simple 4:1 gear box where the 4's cancel out in the equation yielding the same as the crank hp. (Again, this is assuming there are no parasitic losses. In short the torque portion at 7:05 is wrong, but the hp is fundamentally correct. Now to see how wrong I am as everyone picks this apart.

@danetz88 2 жыл бұрын
You are right the diameter of the wheel does not impact torque but the force that pushes the car forward, Tq=F x diam, so F=Tq/diam, they got it wrong. Also parasitic losses is used wrong both in the video and in your explanation, parasitic losses refers to all losses including internal engine losses at the bearings, piston rings etc., so if you measure the power of the engine at the crankshaft it already takes into consideration those losses.
@mattliesch7047
@mattliesch7047 2 жыл бұрын
@@danetz88 Thanks for bringing up wheel thrust where I failed to consider it (I didn't mention wheel diameter). As for the parasitic losses, yes crank hp takes internal sources into consideration. I was referring to the losses in the gearing where a simple gear set like a Tesla's yields about 5-10% loss.

Even if this makes it to production and has all the advertised figures, it will be a low production number toy for rich people not a proper racecar OR a proper production car. Moving a shitload of capital to produce something thats neither profitable as a business venture nor particularly revolutionary in its field is not very impressive. I dont like Elon but he did revolutionize the car industry with Tesla AND make a shitload of profit. Lycan, Raesr and all these other fugazi ass supercars do none of that.
@Tony_Man
@Tony_Man 2 жыл бұрын
@@luchadorito at least with ICE, it's impressive for a small manufacturer to churn out 1K+ horsepower without the aid of various other establishments like SSC, Zenvo, and Koenigsegg. From a consumer standpoint, EV hypercars all don't seem to have any unique features to justify buying one or the other. A least Lucid is able to sell cars for an expensive price but at least the car looks like something you might see once in a while and is practical for what it is.

Long term EV's have a capacity problem, 1. is the rare earth elements to support the battery needs. 2. Grid fragility limits the increased power demands for large scale implementation. 3. Mass EV use in cold environment could cause critical breakdowns in say a blizzard where vehicles are stuck on the road for hours trying to heat the passenger compartment, you can't just send people out with gas cans to support them. As a niche or a small capacity of the total car market EVs make some sense though not much, and when we stop subsidizing them you will see the market crash. Hybrids however make tons of sense, imagine a diesel/electric hybrid even plug-in capability. I would drive a turbo diesel hybrid all day long, and you could run bio-diesel to help the environment.

Cobalt consumption is #2 for the fossil fuel industry. It takes 15-20% of all energy used globally just to find, extract, transport, refine and transport fossil fuels again so you can burn it at 15-25% total efficiency well-wheels. Plenty of rare earths are used in spark plugs, catalytic converters and 02 sensors. Any comment on that by chance? 🤔 As for heating, an ev doesn't sit there wasting its fuel by idling, at full blast a tesla for example can run its heater alone for day's. So no sitting in traffic won't be a major concern for any ev owners. Plus they almost all have seat warmers and heated steering wheels. As for grid stability try doing some research on off peak charging. Evs actually allow the grid to shunt energy that would otherwise be wasted into their batteries so utilities make more $ Also for fun look up total amount of rejected energy. Hint you'll find if we stop burning fossil fuels and switch to renewables and evs, we'd actually use less than half the current worldwide energy needed now. Just shutting off the drill rigs, oil refineries and oil pump jacks would allow the complete conversion to evs. 👍🏻

I believe the torque and horsepower claims. Electric motors produce absolutely bullsh*t amount of torque and horsepower, especially at launch and when cold respectively. It's why electric cars only need a final drive, but not a gearbox.
