Can This Insane Mouse Setting Actually Make You A Better Aimer?

There’s this sort of prevailing, unilaterally accepted myth that, if you play any sort of shooter, and you want to develop some truly sick aim, you absolutely must turn off mouse acceleration.
Almost every experienced aimer will tell you the same thing: go into your client, Windows settings, any third-party drivers you’re running and make sure you uncheck any sort of box that might inadvertently ‘F-up’ your aim. It’s like Rule #1 of the ‘Hi I’d like to FPS, please’ Starter Pack.
With that said, does mouse acceleration actually screw up your aim, or does it have the potential to level it up?
To forge this sort of high sens/low sens hybrid whose mastery - as a handful of utterly cracked competitors have already demonstrated - might offer the best of both worlds?
Let’s find out.

To clarify, the anti-cheat issue is only for Interception-based drivers that are now deprecated. There has never been, nor ever would be anti-cheat issues for either Custom Curve 3.0 or Rawaccel since they are both designed in a way where it is impossible to exploit them to cheat. Custom Curve was even designed in direct communication with faceit anti-cheat to ensure it’s compatibility, and Rawaccel was given the same blessing. Custom Curve and Rawaccel are the only good options available for Windows that work across the whole operating system each with their own signed driver. In-game options should be avoided usually since they normally tie the rate of acceleration to frame rate (exception of Diabotical and Quake live) Also, there is no issue with using non-linear sensitivity curves, all acceleration is fundamentally a non-linear output; a linear output is a static sens. In any case, 3D game worlds are not linear and we don’t aim by memorising fixed distances, rather by hand-eye coordination, so linear or not is not at all relevant in terms of it being “good accel” or not. Also, the only issue with windows EPP accel is not the shape per se, but that it is not user configurable, so certain DPI settings would produce difficult to control results, whereas others would feel nice with it

Being a little older I was part of the first generation competitive fps gamers, there weren't hundreds of KZbin guides telling you best settings and strategies. So I started my cs career with it on and didn't know any better. I got pretty well know for insane awp flicks because of it while still being able to have precise control with a rifle when needed. I have since learned to play with it off but I definitely see a benefit to having it on for those that can take advantage.

Many years ago when I still played 1.6 and was a young teen I used to play super low sens with mouse accel. I wen't from average aimer to good in about 1-2 months. It won't suit everyone and I think majority people will hate it, but it did fit me very well. I used to play something like 1.1 sens on 400 dpi basically without mouse accel I had no chance to turn 180. However since I came back to FPS few years ago after not playing any for over a decade mouse accel does not feel the same. And currently I play with mouse accel off, but my aim again became avarage and I have to play way above my comfort zone low sens. I'm currently at 0.377 1000dpi in Valorant. Not sure how many times faster that is but I can do 360 on my mouse pad with no issues.

Hi as someone who plays mobile games like cod ,pubg,Apex legends mobile,i have tested a lot on this Acceleration has always been a part of sensitivity settings in these games as touch area in the device is low depending on your screen. Two different acceleration are distance and speed, distance means as the distance u move the finger the faster ur cursor will be. speed is the more commonly used as explained in the video The advantage is u can use very low camera sensitivity for precise aiming and Speed accl for flicking 180 It is more useful for assault rifles, for snipers u have to get used to it more ,as the speed accl is also applicable to your ads sensitivity, in ads too speed accl comes in.nice to see pc gamers are catching on.😁

@nervz

I HIGHLY recommend trying out natural gain (the one that looks like a log graph). The reason is simple. At slower speeds (wrist aiming), it's must easier to be precise. At much faster speeds, such as when you are swiping your arm across the mousepad, it's harder to "control" the mouse. Thus, as you increase the mouse speed, the acceleration is less..

It's not a matter of using math or getting used to the acceleration differences. It really just takes a lot of mechanical skill. The generally understood theory right now is that you can get good with many different sensitivities and sticking with one sens forever doesn't make you better. Using a variety of sens over the years can help build up better mechanical skill in general by working different muscles groups for aiming. That said, it will take much more effort to adjust to using mouse acceleration at a high level in actual gaming, and for a lot of people, that extra effort likely isn't worth it.
@WestProter
@WestProter 2 жыл бұрын
This isn't entirely true. Didn't actually watch the video yet, no idea if they're right, but a large part of mouse accel is math. I got a friend (StarkLN) who's top 10 or so in the world for dynamic clicking. He never uses mouse accel as every scen he runs would require a different curve, or else he'd be at a disadvantage, and he's "too lazy" to change it every time. Basically, your speed and sensitivity are the two factors that affect your ability to hit a target. In static, and most cs, val type games, you can get to a target with a variety of ways, just depending on how fast you move. But when you're adjusting to/tracking a quickly moving target, there's a certain sensitivity and speed combination range you have to stay between to stay on that target, based on it's speed. Accel will end up warping this range, and often times a certain curve will make a certain target incredibly harder to hit. I have one curve that's basically op in ground plaza, take it into pgti and it'll kill you. It accelerates too quickly for when the bot isn't at it's apex and makes it super hard to hold the target. However, in ground plaza, it gives you a great sens for quickly tracking the bots that circle you and precisely tracking the far away ones. The adjustment period is highly overrated. If you're already use to sens changes, you'll be fine on it in a day, better in a week at whatever that curve is optimized for. But optimization is a huge part of accel. Obviously it's not granting you mechanical skill, but it let's you essentially trade in skill that you won't be needing for skill that you need more of in that scenario. Like I don't need much pgti level tracking in Val, so I use a really nice static curve. Debating editing it to account better for strafing enemies.

I Love Mouse Acceleration because I can literally do anything with it. I use RawMouseAccell. It is possible to play high sens and have a slower sens for micro adjustments and anywhere above the 0.5 cm your normal Sens applies. It is also possible to play on low sens and only let the Acceleration kick in when you flick out of your FOV. Ofc that takes a couple of minutes to set up but it is so worth it. I can also set a limit to the mouse accel which basically means I can max the sensitivity at 1.5 of what my normal sens is. Raw Mouse Accel is literally the perfect programm for everyone who likes playing with settings and is all about aim. However I do not recommend it for casual players because you do need to be able to have fairly good control over your mouse.

I turned off mouse acceleration as an experiment, and I feel like i'm using a windows 3.1 machine. Overshooting, looping, etc. I think my mind has adapted to the inbuilt acceleration CERTAINLY for productivity. In games, (of which online competitive I rarely do) it feels intuitive as well. HOWEVER! I will try it without, but the style I use the mouse (full palm on desk, highish sensitivity, mouse never moves more than ~2.5 inches, fingers flat on triggers, mouse never touching palm) I really appreciate the acceleration.

I recently switched to raw accel in valorant after years of playing raw input on csgo and valorant. It definitely has been a learning curve (pun intended) but I already see the benefits of it. I was able to lower my sens very low because of raw accel (270 eDPI - > 180 eDPI) and my headshot percentage has gone up by about 5% directly because of the lower sens and ability to micro adjust. Normally i wouldnt be able to play that low without raw accel. There are negatives though - Certain spray patterns from certain distances are drastic enough to trigger my raw accel which totally throws off my aim, however, these distances are further away than i really should be spraying anyways so its not a big deal. I think this would have a bigger impact in csgo tbh, esp with the ak. Other than that any negative impact is just the learning how to flick with raw accel. But I think with time it should improve my flicks for sure as i will be flicking faster than most other players and can even micro adjust after i flick faster than the enemy can turn if they use low sens lol. I also have noticed tracking a flying raze is very difficult now, but i think that's again just a learning process.

As someone who had played for many years with windows acceleration before I even knew what windows acceleration was, it just became natural overtime and you just do the math in your head subconsciously to where its just natural to know how hard to flick, how much to adjust and at what rate. At a time before raw input kind of wrecked that, my sensitivity in Source from 06 to '15 was 600DPI @ 0.93 sens with 0.9 zoom sens. In CSGO for some reason, I needed to increase the sens from 0.93 to 1.15 and it felt identical. Before I took the game really seriously, I was just bumbling about with the setup and able to fight on the level of, and I quote a friend who was an ESEA Main player, "On par on most ESEA Main Players" in terms of raw aim skill. Sometimes, I'd tinker around with the in-game acceleration just to screw around and have more fun but then I'd revert with no in-game accel but have windows accel still up. Needless to say, I switched over to raw input since mid 2015 and never gone back, though with this video, I'm starting to entertain the thought of coming back and adapting to it again just for the lulz and giggles. Yeah, it screws up built in muscle memory but I barely had that after 2019, cuz you know, ya get old, get a job and stuff and just lose practice. Thanks for the content once again theScore \o/

The best way i can describe understanding mouse acceleration is: when you throw a ball in real life you instinctively know how fast to move your arm to get the ball to the exact distance you want. throwing a ball precisely takes practice but its not impossible to throw consistently eventually. it's as if some of these people never played physical sports.
@WorldKeepsSpinnin

exactly, if you want to go fast in real life, well, you go fast. I kind of expect to turn faster then normal when moving fast lol. If I want to be precise I move slowly / slower. Simple enough. If you want consistency and are on a lower sens you can do that but have fast 180s / 360s to. Best of both worlds. It’s a very welcome customization that everyone should play around with if they are serious about getting better. As this is something that can help immensely, you can customize your mouse to you. Less adapting to it more time to actually get good.

I feel like it would help if we had an aim trainer that records your mouse's velocity per flick. If we had an aim trainer like that, we can more easily find how to limit the value of mouse acceleration. I still feel like having no mouse acceleration and just having bigger desk space is much more easier to get more accustomed. It does sound cool to dual wield sensitivities and in theory, it sounds powerful. In the end, it's all about preference. Most of the time, it's not your peripherals that give you a high hurdle to jump over(unless it's your monitor or CPU god don't play on 60 hz trust me), it's your mind and mentality.

What I mean is I could either be snappy or smooth in my movements, but I struggled to be consistently both, like if my brain couldnt naturally make the switch. However, I thought using mouse accel would just be a way to mask an issue I should just properly fix, so I just worked on that, and now Im starting to be satisfied with the state of my aim motions, without mouse accel.

It keeps your hand in home position more for aiming. You aim with your eyes mostly. Working on aim builds hand-eye coordination and I you practice, you should be able to use any funky setting you feel like. I don't use it. I like having my arm all the way in my chest while tracking a Pathfinder doing a perfect gyrospherical grapple around me.

The problem is getting reliable answers from any games tech support regarding interaction with anticheats on mouseacceleration drivers imo. I've tried this for valorant and cs support without getting any clear answers to if it's safe to use for people who've invested alot of money in their accounts. Some accels get blacklisted from being used due to interactions/modifications done in the past to make different types of aimbots for instance. I'd love to use rawaccel as it would provide better curves for me due to a shoulder injury. Also I've got different types of sensitivity stages I feel comfort at but not 100% for all situations. Custom accel's in some games are not the worst but they don't let you monitor or look at any drawn lines or curves done, so messing with min to max scales and ratios is not the easiest thing to do or understand. For years people have been sceptical of higher dpi's as well, and recently it turns out it's to be preferred regarding input lag and pixel-skipping & jitters to mention one thing. Any FOV-zoom seen in slow motion will highlight the benefit of a higher dpi. Although some grips, techniques, sensors and hand-eye coordination will maybe have a bad impact for some, but that's more of a frequency of movement issue (how often you actually move inches and your sensitivity to dpi realationship. So for a low sens gamer that can't flick effectively or a high sense aimer not being able to "fine-tune" micro aiming mouse accel would indeed place as a benefit to both. And from spending thousand of hours in console's and aim maps I can say that adjusting to a few new numbers does not really take that long. But no such driver og program can be used without being afraid of it having some sort of fault-detection rate in anticheats, so getting one that is advertised by or for the biggest FPS gamers would be a must for me. A lot of people say RawAccel is not a problem to use, so why can't I get a "YES, good to go" from any technical support of the games? I'd love to try it for myself without taking a risk of loosing 1000's of dollars in in game content for games that hold a one-strike-out policy.

Rawaccel will not get you banned, it has gotten explicitly whitelisted by faceit, vanguard, esea and some other russian anticheat, plus it’s a proprietary signed driver meaning it should not get flagged by any anticheat.

@@Healp145 Every response I get from valorant support can not give me such a whitelisted view on it. No matter how hard I try, how much Information I provide or try to clarify upon I'm not getting these answers. So where does these statements come from? Other then on one post from the creator on their official discord server? I can't find it, and I certainly can't get the answer from a technical team in riot/vanguard.

Had this on ever since I bought my laptop 2 years ago and have been playing with it on ever since. Id recently turned it down having watched a lot of videos suggesting it to be turned off. Im a wrist aimer and id say it might be preferable for wrist aimers. Was so comfortable with it turned on but I now have it turned off. Adjusted to it for a week or less than it and im back to my "normal" self. Probably better to have it turned off and just adjust your in game (or even mouse settings) sensitivity as I have done.

Yes. Custom mouse acceleration is completely viable. I have been using RawAccel linear curve for almost 2 years now and switching to regular sens feels wrong. However, using a premade acceleration, that is an option in windows or in a game is not recommended. Do not listen to anyone, who has not used acceleration seriously for more than a month or two. The best advisors to listen to in terms of acceleration are the people at r/mouseacceleration, because most of them have enough experience with different curves. All the talk about "it will ruin your muscle memory" and "You cant be precice" are false in terms of custom curves. Most of these statements exist because people dont know about custom curves, but instead are only familiar with Windows enhanced pointer precision etc. I highly recommend trying a RawAccel linear custom curve. It does not destroy your muscle memory, because humans are good at adapting to change. Just pick a curve you like and stick with it. It will feel weird for the first few days, but it is worth it in the long run.

@@LoneBeastYT exactly, I didn’t know about rawaccel and was going to try the windows one for this exact reason but I found out you can customize all this stuff and it’s perfect. You can even change the rotation of your sensor to match how you naturally move left to right and make the lines perfectly straight. It’s crazy what you can do you can make it feel very life-like and that’s exactly what’s needed. You can have the best of both worlds, fast turns and precise flicks / movements.

I use Custom Curve Pro 3.0 with that I use like a reverse acceleration..kinda. I use my normal sens, but I have it so that if I move it slow, it goes at a 600 dpi, then fast it is at 1200 dpi. Which is my normal DPI. It has a curve to the initial acceleration.

I'm currently in for ca. 2 weeks. I'm at the point where I want to return to raw input because I'm overwhelmed with the possibilities and don't exactly know how to setup a curve that I REALLY like. Having said that I think i can't return. I'll have to stick with it because: The first time I tried acceleration I was immediatly surprised by how good it felt and what i can do with it with experimenting. Going back to raw just feels absolutely shit. Really I mean it, I tried to go back and gave it time but it just felt bad in every aspect. It wasnt fast enough and all the precision was gone. So I'm going to continue to find my curve and I'm sure I'll be happy with it, as it already feels good often, but I'm still changing things a lot. Going back is a WAY bigger step than starting. So for everyone who tinkers with their sens too much already with acceleration off, don't even start it without knowing it will be work. In the end I'm sure it will feel great.

When I played quake3 and cs I used mouse acceleration. I had truly great aim. I stopped playing games for years and come back in 2013 for csgo. Everyone told me to stop using acceleration (and to be honest I couldn´t replicate the exact parameters I had when I created that muscle memory). So I did. My aim was never the same. I was doing those things of doing 180 degrees and headshot someone that was already shoting me from the back. I was moving so fast when I needed it that people though I was cheating, while having low sensitivity when required, and my aim was dope (not profesional level but still), particularly in q3. I lost that because I believed all the people telling me to stop using it.
