The best system to keep tuning stability on a floating bridge is the "AEX 5+" by Russian Alexander Khromov who still sells it direct by email, look here on youtube for his videos and reviews, that design was stolen by Thomman Germany and sold as the "Tremmory" so please don't buy it from Thomman and buy it directly from Khromov, is around 40 us dollars and requires NO modification or any holes drilling to the guitar

Trevor Wilkinson solved the "scary trem" problem back in the 80's when he invented the VS 100-C convertible trem system. When you're not using it, it's a stoptail bridge; the moment you swing the arm forward, it converts to a floating trem, and switches back once you let it go again. Unfortunately, Gibson sued Wilkinson claiming that the VS 100-C violated the Steinberger JamTrem patent (which it didn't; they work in completely different ways) and somehow won. After that, the Wilkinson convertible became scarcer than hens teeth! It's too bad, too, because it really works, and will even let you finish a song if you break a string.

I've been playing almost 40 years and I've only ever broken the high E (and less than five times) so I've got to wonder what kind of abuse people are inflicting on their guitars? Should we report these people to Instrument Control? ;-) All kidding aside, I've always hated those very issues with floating trems, and having over 20 guitars, I might actually have to give this a try on one of them and see if it helps out. Another great post, Darrell. Cheers.

Floyd roses are NOT hard to setup, once you know how to do it. Block the trem, restring and tuneup, remove the block, tweak claw screws if needed. Done. Before I learned this I too suffered with floyd roses. Suffering with a floyd rose does not make you man, it just makes you an uninformed noobie Floyd Rose user - like most guitar players out there. The easy way to setup a floyd rose is surprisingly uncommon knowledge.

Guys, which one should I get? Squier affinity stratocaster HSS vs Ibanez (GRX70QATRB) the price is almost the same I know Ibanez is good for metal which is what I want to learn but for a good year I probably won't, I can barely keep up with a 90-100 tempo save for 160 metal. Also, the hss squier is more versatile cuz it has the 2 single coils and humbuck. So basically I could do metal and rock with it also. My playstyle would be everything. I like to play all my fav songs. Classic rock, hard rock, metal even slower songs...

Two glaring criticisms of this review: 1) You usually don't lock your tuning, and then break a string. You break your string first, and I'm curious to see you take that out of tune guitar pull on the tremolo arm and engage that gadget, achieving a good tuning. 2) Advertising it for floating Floyd Rose and doing a demo on a strat is... well, it seems like you haven't fully proven the point. Set it up on an Ibanez RG with that pain in the ass floating System we've all known for decades, and do the demo for real. Still love your reviews, but this one falls a bit short.

Hey thanks for the video dude. I guess you have to put holes in your guitar you have to drill to put new screws in I think for most people if they have you know guitars they really like that they don't want to you know do something like that that's non-reversible in the sense that you'll have holes in your guitar I guess that's not an option. And I guess it's not an option for bixby's? I'm not sure on that point. But my Bixby stays in tune I have a hollow body scratch and it works fine it's a trapeze type I think it's the seven and the Bixby seven seems to do what it's supposed to do. Still getting used to it even though I have it for months now I'm not or have never been a trim user. I had a trim on my first guitar which was a 69 Gibson SG standard it had a Bixby on it but you couldn't use it. Brought it back to the place where I bought it in Manhattan in the music district. They used to be a music district for my mistaken it was 47 and 48th street. Every music store that you can imagine and can imagine was at that two blocks in manhattan. There was one great guitar store that's not there anymore. This guitar store was called we buy and sell used guitars. A perfect name for exactly what they did. Their store was literally Walter wall from floor to ceiling used guitars. All different ranges. At the time I paid $325 for that 69 Gibson SG standard with a case. If you take that money and fiddle it to a with inflation to today it was an expensive guitar. Although at that time which was about 1981 I would estimate there wasn't much there wasn't much call for gibson's. When I needed to sell it I was offered a gig in California San Francisco to play drums for a band. That was my main instrument and I guess still is. I play professionally for years whereas the guitar I just taught myself so I can write my own music. But I couldn't sell it for anything this was already 83 nobody wanted to buy it. I ended up trading it in at Berkeley music store in Berkeley California for $240 worth of credit. Of which I bought symbols got a really good deal on the symbols though they were all zildjian brand new high hats and use the ride and crash. But like I said it wasn't much demand for that guitar. Boy I wish I had it now lol. It'd be worth a little bit more money I think than the 325 even with inflation but it is what it is. My first guitar after 35 years or 32 years whatever of not touching the guitar. I had gone blind in the interim and really stop playing guitar at that point. And my first guitar I bought again was a used SG special gibson. I called it my special special cuz it was a special order wine red high gloss. 2005. In 2005 the SG special came with what they call the one finish which was really a faded satin finish. Two humbuckers 490 t and 490r. Didn't really like them at first but I want to love them. Anyway I love that guitar it got me started again I now have six and this week will be purchasing number 7. I'm going for the tribute 59 less Fall by epiphone. Seems like a really good deal for that price. Anyway this became more of a short anyway sincerely yours, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist sincerely yours, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist

Good idea for drop D or during string changes but anytime any amount of tension is released from the neck, (ie; broken string) the neck will give enough to affect all strings and their tunings, not that much but it does happen. Plus this thing is so simple to build, why pay their stupid outrageous price for it?? There’s one born every minute.

for me the key is always tremolo angle on a true floating unit, I always found them to work best when they are tilted back at an angle maybe 3-5% from flush. Fender LSR and locking tuners shouldn't need this mod.

That would only work f you have your 3 springs perfectly aligned and parallel, otherwise it would be on the way of at least one spring unless it runs below the springs, which I don't believe so. Another solution would be using Tremol No.

I have mine set up so I can drop the low E to D with the fine adjustment knob. There is enough play in there if you tune it standard with it tightened nearly all the way down. I had a Laguna with a lever on the bridge that was for doing the same thing, but it wasn't perfect. It dropped the string but still required some tuning adjustment after, despite being advertised as drop tuning on the fly. I really liked that guitar, but the Laguna version of the Floyd Rose was kinda crap. The handle was always really loose cus it just snapped in rather than screwing down.

I can’t wait for the comments about how tremolo switch increases contact between bridge and wood and therefore increases sustain. :’D

Please tell then, what to do about Ibanez or any other guitar where is not possible to install such. Please make video about floating bridges (Floyd rose or IbanezZero), how to fix the this "tuning pain", or at least how to do it easy way...

Drill a hole to a coin. screw it in. same theory. been doing this since 2007. For this being €80, its a bit steep for the function you get. But this is a small production specialized item. Would be worth it if the price is about the same as Schaller strap locks.

I agree that is way too much money for what it is. Even if it is hand machined from billet it should only be $25~$30. I get the same results using a fitted piece of hardwood with a small strip of velcro on the bottom. Only takes about 20 minutes to do.

Locking it in this direction solves many problems however it would have to be locked in the opposite direction to solve the problem of bending say the 3rd string up and having the second string go flat.

It can’t be perfect, broken string means the overall tension on the neck changes, so it moves. Guitarist should try to understand basic mechanics all they do is A/B and cherry pick everything.

Shouldn't the Tremol-No be a better option? It allows you to go fully blocked to allow just diving by a simple adjustment. And it doesn't require to drill onto your guitar to install

A cheap alternative is perhaps install a small piece of wood behind the block when you change tunings and replacing a broken string. Just a thought. Apparently Eric Clapton does have a piece of wood behind the block as he doesn't operate the trem.

A bit of a gimmick. It doesn’t look like it’ll stop going out of tune while bending. It will keep you in tune if you break a string. I like the hipshot tremsetter it the goldo blackbox. They hold tune when you bend and when you break a string. Just my opinion.

Guitar will be out of tune, but here’s how you fix it quickly. Throw on your tuner, play an open string, press the trem bar until you’re at your original pitch, then lock the trem at the back.

With this system, yes. As long as you set it up properly when the guitar is in tune, you could block it after breaking a string when floating and it'd be in tune

Most of these problems are caused by not being smart and fixed by being smart. For example, cleaning strings is waaaaay easier on a floating bridge. Literally just take out the springs out of the back, lift the entire bridge strings attached out, and then clean the fretboard. Put the bridge back in and boom. Tuning is a net zero gain because whatever time you spend tuning it will be saved by the fact that you don’t have to tune your guitar at all for months assuming you did it right.

I'm not scared of floyds, I just hate when you bring it to a shop to have it set up, they put stupid strong springs on it so that it's locked in the back position and then later say "that can't have been us" -.- For cleaning the fretboard I have a stack of 3 business cards and 2 credit cards to stuff under the bridge.

Why show and point out the cons of a floyd rose bridge and put it in the thumbnail, then install it on a fender bendy bridge. Not all floyd guitars have that ibanez system. Im pretty sure most of the issues you went through on the floyd bridge dont even apply to the fender bridge... you know considering how completely different they are designed and built. And how differently they operate.
