I never had such a computer so very nice to see you make it work again. MSX could have been the standard to rule the world - but then came other computers and eventually PC. ;) You are the expert. This power board was a really nasty one. Many thanks for excellent entertainment one more time.

Nice fix. I've done some repairs on cracked boards, and i superglue plastic "ribs" to the board afterwards to prevent the board from flexing.

My first ever computer, SVI-728. Got it somewhere 1986 summer if I remember right... Had one game with it, Mopiranger module.

To fix all the traces along a crack, first take a marker and draw a line along the whole crack, then fix every trace intersecting that line. And always do this with all components removed from the board. Also if the crack is extremely long, it can be easier to split the board into two parts, prepare all the traces, then glue it back.

A replacement board design could or should be available, but that's a huge project.

6:34 after MSX 2+ there was MSX Turbo R, only Panasonic made any widely available units (supposedly there were some bespoke machines tailored to customer needs such as a car auction computer). I believe the short of it is that sales were dwindling for MSX and even though a MSX 3 was drafted most manufacturers pulled out, Panasonic wanted to keep making MSX computers so they introduced the upgraded Turbo R standard and went on to make only 2 machines.

What a nice gift, but what a project. Someone probably smashed very hard on the keyboard. That also might explain the broken keys.

I had a 728 with a black screen too about 20 years ago. Now, I probably would be able to repair it, but back then I sadly didn’t have the skills or equipment.

@@terosaarela4555 you dont have much of a sense for humor, do you? That was the irony in it, back then we had to work hard to find out solutions to our problems, read some books, get magazines regularly and ask around. Unlike today when we simply go to youtube and find many video solution for our problems, so even a monkey would be able to fix it.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall the Spectravideo came out before the MSX and wasn't exactly one but the MSX machines were very very similar to it.
@Arcticretro
@Arcticretro Ай бұрын
Yes. I think so. The first ones where almost MSX compatible. Very similar. But still, you could not use MSX software.

You might get with Noel Llopis (Noel's Retro Lab). He's something of an expert on SpectraVideo equipment. His video on the SVI-728 is at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ3OkJ-Oaqaoj8k When there are large cracks that may not seal or mate properly, baking soda sprinkled over the CA glue can accelerate curing. You might experiment with it on non-critical PCBs first, just to get a feel for how it works .

Thanks. I already know Noel. Might ask him
