Sadly, manufacturing in China is not subject to the same regulations as in Europe and varies from superb to suspect. I bought a PC sound card on eBay which simply buzzed with the activity of the processor.

I've had one like that before, they're often sold as IDE power supplies. From memory the switching transistor blew in mine but it did the exact same thing as yours. Blew the fuse and burned one of the primary traces, can't remember if it also tripped the breaker. Looks like on yours the octocoupler had a misshap but the result is the same 🔥

Yes, it's an IDE power supply with output changed to DIN plug. They are dirt cheap at ebay or aliexpress.

those RCA cables coming out of your video connector are you audio, just plug that into your monitor or some speakers. The audio is on the same connector as the video.

As always, I am a little late watching. At first I thought this keyboard was lost. Mechanically broken completely. But hey, along comes Tommy with ways of fixing I didn't dream of. One neat old machine brought back to life! Then advanced by adding a connection to the outside to have it work with a modern chip, wow. I never had such a machine and am not so interested in getting one. But it was very interesting to see how it is built-up and working again. Many thanks for another great video.

Just picked up a Z240IE-DS71 with bad NVMe drive. Great idea to up the capacity. I'm going to 512GB. Drive is M.2 2280 Sata III TGFF. Thinking about upgrading the storage drive while ASUS is open. IIRC, it is a cheap 5,400 rpm spinner. I have a 7,200 rpm Hitachi which will do.

Throughout the years I have seen many repair videos. Some specialists lock themselves up in the basement or attic to concentrate more. Then they look at the patient and the diagnose is quickly made. When it is a sick Commodore, then it always is always not one of the biggest chips, but one of the smaller ones, When it is a Sinclair then most the time it is one from the bottom row of chips, sometimes one row higher. Always I wonder, why did they break their computer in the first place? If people play all the time the same game, then always the same parts wear out. By playing stupid games people break their own computer. People must stop using computers in the way they do. And if their computer breaks down, it is always because they played the game wrongfully! No more computer for them, for one last time it will be repaired, then it is going to be locked up in the cupboard and no more gaming!

Pretty much every joystick maker added a +2 compatible tail to their joystick leads immediately. It was a totally pointless exercise by Amstrad to do that, especially as their own joystick was rubbish.
