Can tiny doses of lithium prevent dementia?

Once Alzheimer's dementia is underway, there is no way to reverse it. Better to prevent it. Some evidence suggests that tiny doses of lithium can do this. This video shows you that evidence and details of the doses that might be used.

Good video, thanks. I have the KAL Lithium Orotate and it's clear on the label that it contains 5 mg of Lithium, i.e.it's 5000 mcg dose of Li+ metal.

Accorden some other videos your explanation for the 5mg lithiumorotate beeing 0.2 mg would be incorrect. The 5mg might be 5mg elemental lithium although it is pretty confuging.

Lithium cessation will result in reversal of the abnormalities, usually within 1-2 months. If a patient on thyroxine is stopping lithium, the thyroxine should be gradually tapered off over a month.

Thanks for the fascinating presentation! I started down the Lithium rabbit hole several months ago. My wife and I are 60 and 70 respectively and live in Seattle. We use the Life Extension 1000mcg Orotate capsules. We take 4000mcg per day. Dementia runs in both our families and it scares the living daylights out of both of us. If I understood the presentation correctly (and there’s a good chance I didn’t) it seems like the dose we are using is still sub optimal. I had my TSH taken last week and reported a level of 2.9 and Thyroxine free at .93, both within the normal range. It seems to me that the dose Li dose we are taken may be too low. Understanding you are not my medical doctor and are not dispensing medical advice to me, does it appear we may be taking too low a dose to be efficacious? Let's just say that in the 2019 randomized trial, which produced the best data we have so far, yes, the dose was higher; high enough that you'd have to get your primary care provider on board to prescribe it and follow up the level and your TSH. Another indication that at our (me too) higher ages, higher doses are logical, is that the Pittsburgh LATTICE trial is using even higher doses, close to those we use in bipolar disorders. Is it possible that the orotate does not work as well as the carbonate? I have been taking 20mg of orotate a day for 2 weeks and no effect, could my brand be fake?

It can take longer to see a perceived effect - probably depends on the condition you are treating. 20mg sounds like a hefty dose and you should monitor thyroid function to see if hypothyroid condition develops. Genuine Lithium orotate is quite cheap so there is little reason to "fake" it.

Is there a way to measure the exposure of lithium to battery mechanics? Such as accidentally, directly inhaling smoke from a li-ion battery? Thank you!

I don't think the Li+ would be inhaled. It would remain as ash in the cigarette.

There is a lithium blood or urine test - your choice. I think occasional exposure is probably not a serious problem unless you get an overdose at one time. If you are concerned about overdose you can do the blood test. Lithium typically damages the kidney at toxic levels otherwise it is an essential nutrient at low levels.
