This is easily one of the most valuable KZbin videos I have watched in a LONG time. Van's ability to articulate his struggle, his search for his kingdom, his desire for "success" (in the sense of his sibling rivalry with his brother who's buying houses, taking trips, etc.). I cannot tell you how much of what Van went through and IS going through spoke precisely to my experience as someone who, with his brother, has been making videos and pursuing a successful life as a creative, as an artist, as an entrepreneur. I'm in my studio right now getting ready to make another KZbin video, another video for my 7 Patrons... BUILDING something just like Van has as he (and I) continues to try to figure out the secret(s) of this life, this existence... What a WONDERFUL video. So wonderful I'm thinking of breaking it down as a Patreon vid to relate it to my own experience and the experiences of my subscribers who are also pursuing a life as a Creator. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's interesting to hear Van's perspective on why he's making the Spirited Man and slowly discovering the intersection between what he wants vs what audiences want. Van Neistat and his passion for making is one reason I started my youtube channel. The need for self expression, self reliance and self discovery is something which doesn't fit a regular 9-5 job and we are extremely lucky to have tools like KZbin and Patreon to both support us and other like minded individuals. What time to be alive.

Holy crap! When Van talked about Alymayer's philosophy on art, I had a light bulb moment - that's exactly how I've viewed art ever since I started creating. I passionately believe that good art is art that the artist can transfer emotions into the viewer, listener or however it is perceived, regardless of the emotion. I think good art requires humanity behind it as well, which is why I'm not at all afraid of AI in the art world. This was a brilliant talk like always!

It's better to be loved for being yourself and sharing yourself with the world than being loved for being something your not. Van clearly, through his relationship with story telling and videography is unique and doesn't necessarily conform to what a successful KZbin channel "ought to be" however his success shows the clear admiration of individuality on this platform.

At this stage of the conversation, I wanted to come back and mention that comparing Casey, he just made videos about whatever passion he had. Here, you folks are discussing with Van the current rule that seems to hold true for most about niche. Perhaps the real push should be Van just really needs to mood board his niche. As long as he is focused on that niche of the art he is creating bringing it back around to a topic of focus, he probably will pick up even more and realize his dreams. That is super admirable. Inspiring really. His passion is fantastic!

Thank you Colin, Samir and the team. It is unbelievable how difficult it has been. It is crazy how lonely it has been. Almost anyone that I talked over the years to help me or guide me has said it can not be done. Almost all of them said no, yet I have not been able to let these urge go. The urge to create something. The calling to share these feeling through multimedia. Your videos make me feel sane. They all keep telling me I am crazy. 🙏🏼
