It's been fascinating to see Colin and Samir transition from documenting the creator economy to now being authorities on it. You constantly see Van's mind turning over the little tips and ideas they drop based on what has worked for other creators.

There is this aesthetic that both Neistats have adopted from Tom Sachs that I love. Just wildly functional, frugal, and yet incredibly carefully considered.

This Van Neistat stuff is incredible. I feel like we're all so used to Casey's amazing work that a lot of us didn't even realise that his brother is as much of an established filmmaker. I've started going back and watching through his stuff chronologically, which is something I rarely do with any KZbin channel nowadays, and there's some beautiful shots, nuggets of wisdom and documentation ideas that I'm going to pull into my own work. Thank you both for this wonderful spotlight, you've had some amazing work come out recently and I'm 100% here for it!

Vans excitement is so great. The more I watch him, the more I think that the key to being spirited is to accept the responsibilities of adulthood, but to keep your childish sense of wonder and apply it to that. Also just do the thing. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
@kuhekaizen3426 Жыл бұрын
Tfs! These Vids and comments are a relief to me as i am closer to this mentally but my natural environment is completely different and i am between being my odd (and then lonely) me or neglecting my self trying to fit in my environment and being lonely in my head and odd for others. Deep, honest conversations will not come up and i try to be interested in "normal" things. Just unlearning to, which means a lot of transformations, self worx and i wondered if i am the only one. Brought tears to my eyes to discover the neistats and read the comments, i feel i am 9n my good way and not alone at all. Its few but by doing and being i will find my tribe, its kind of freaking me out, but your comment and the neistats give me hope and self esteem to do me and accept. Off to repair, thinking, making and writing, keep strong😊

I think Van Neistat's tools, kits and janky set ups are all worth setting up at a museum and beholding as the work of a man who finds the pleasure in being done. They are unironically the best things I've ever seen and you are transported to another world when you see him, his videos and the things he make. You're a legend, Van.

It's interesting that you guys talk about creator evolution at the end of the video, because I feel like that's exactly what you guys are doing / going through at this time. The "on-location" format really works for you guys. I like the sit-down stuff at your office as well, but there's something about being in the creator's space while you're having your conversation that makes these versions better (for me). Thanks for sharing, I've really enjoyed the closer look at Van and his life. He is, in my opinion, a modern day Warhol and fascinating to watch.

My favorite thing about this is seeing when Van gets excited about something. Noticing the contrast of the energy between the artist getting excited about his work and wanting to share with the filmmakers standing by...it's fascinating. I think so much of the creative culture is to see "the artist" as this spontaneous magician so it was definitely a surprise seeing how organized his studio was.

The insane thing about Van’s content is that it’s absolutely timeless. I don’t bother looking when the video came out, it doesn’t matter, it won’t “expire”. I love that for some reason. This isn’t the case with technology influencers, their videos expire within a few months or maybe a year. Watching a 2yo tech video feels ancient
