100% of my care is through the VHA. I too do not like to take medicine that makes me a zombie or gives me other issues. A few years ago I asked to change my PCP to a more holistic provider and currently take a lot of vitamins and utilize the programs that they have for chronic pain. My VHA hospital has a lot of holistic options available and I am thankful for that.

I use VA Healthcare for all my healthcare needs as I’m self employed and it for way too $$ like $1500+ monthly to Buy my own health Ins. So Last summer I broke my ankle & it required surfery ie: plate & 6 screws. I’m just getting back to near normal use of ankle but surgeon was great VA had everything I needed waiting for me either at my home(shower chair, knee scooter) or they provided me with them crutches , walking boot etc all at no cost as I’m @ 80% disabled So I give VA Healthcarw a thumbs up

I'm 100% P&T since June 20, 2023, and I used to use both, VA and Private insurance healthcare. However, I became unemployed in September 2024, and I've been using VA healthcare only. Unfortunately, I have to go to the Washington VA Medical Center which is 35 to 40 miles depending on who you ask from my residence in Dumfries, Virginia and as you know, it can be a 1.5 to 3 hours trek 1 way depending on date, time and traffic. I hate to go to the Washington VA Medical Center because of that and recently I requested to move my primary care to Ft. Belvoir because getting access to community care is almost impossible. If you have any tricks that you can pass to me, they're greatly appreciated. Thank you for the great work you and your partner at Veterans Info Tap do. I'm infinitely grateful for the information you both provide. It's been a real blessing for me and my family so thank you and God bless you and your family.

I ran into problems with the VA’s treatment - actually the absence of treatment - for menopause care including hormone treatment, bone density scans and some cancer screens. I also have a hard time with quality dental care. The dentists are great but overwhelmed. I’m 100% T&P but and getting pretty anxious about the future of the disability,it’s payments I’m receiving under the new admin and Project 2025. I’ll be watching you regularly. Also, I’m contemplating changing to private because the VA after 10+ years are still denying me PTSD even though I am being seen by a PTSD specialist and it is clearly service connected by them and noted…. I’m being seen and am doing ok with treatment but when it comes to submitting a claim, they basically turn tail for a lack of better term. It’s frustrating but still trying…

Great video as always, Clay. I retired for the Corps after 20 year of service in 2001, with 60% SC. Over the succeeding 23 years those SC issues; back, knees (patellectomy), leg neuropathy, etc, have all worsened. I do not use VA Healthcare, but rather my Tricare, because it's more convenient and accessible. My VSO submitted an ITF in June 24. I attended three C&P exams over a two week period and quickly received a rating increase to 90%. I was also SC for stomach cancer under the PACT Act, under the June 2024 ITF, and I was rated at 100% for the cancer, which I am still being treatment for. Unbeknownst to me, I am now rated 100% P&T, which I discovered using the VA app on my iPhone as you demonstrated. On the VA Healthcare website, and the iPhone app, I can see all the SC ratings to include 100% for the cancer, but I have never received a decision letter for the SC cancer specifically, nor can I find the letter on the website nor app. Should I contact the VA about the decision letter, or is having it show on the website an app good enough? Semper Fidelis!

Most if the other guys that do this also provide great info and each have there own way of presenting. I like them all but don't watch them as much as you. I'm using CC for my bone marrow transplant and related appts. Why?... Duke Med is a top and center does many more of these than the VA. So, I wanted my best shot. VA for everything else. They are good for treatment of many things. I want to support/use them to keep them around, as my plan A. I maintain my Medicare B (66yo) and private doctor...you need a plan B. VA even suggests you should do so as you never know what congress will do with VA funding.

Great Vid! Here's my story: I am 55. I was medically retired in 2008 and was rated 80% from VA. I applied for an increase to rating in 2014 and was increased to 100% P&T in 2015. I live in the Philippines and use a combination of the VA clinic here (only remote as I do not live in Manila) and private healthcare with Tricare Select Overseas. The VA a year or so back stopped distributing class A drugs (like benzo/opiod) so I had to start buying them on the economy and reimbursed through Tricare. Have had little to complain about with VA, other than reduction in services, which is out of their control here. And, Tricare works well but takes time. Hope this info helps any vets here in Ph or considering moving here.

The VBA and local VHA immediately share info, I know this because I went to the emergency room and spent the night there in 2021, later I checked my VA records and and VBA had started an intent to file claim: Which I had nothing to do with. I got paranoid and thought the VA was trying to get me in for an exam because at this point I was about 18 months from my 20 years protection. Whatever your VHA put down and the VBA will automatically know and use.

I have been using VA health care since 1992 and they have done some of the dumbest stuff possible. Here is just one example. They have replaced my wheel chair last August, but they have yet to replace the wheel chair lift for my pickup. They provided me a heavier wheel chair that my current lift can not put in my pickup and I have no lift to put it in my pick up. That right I have no way to use the chair they provided me to use. Even though I contact them weekly about it, they never call me back about it so I am stuck without being able to use the wheel chair they provided me for my service connected disability. I got 100% P&T last year and initially filed 5yrs ago for those conditions. Would it be ok to file for an SMC if it is impacting me and the only way I could get coverage for it would be to have that SMC service connected, which it is. People keep saying that’s a risk, but I legitimately have an issue that I want improved and the treatment is $20k even at 100% P&T.

Hi Clay, I have heard that taking any action regarding your claim can open it up for review. e.g. Submitting paperwork for a back claim could get the rater to review your PTSD rating. However, I have heard that adding a dependent is not a claim action that will result in a VA rater reviewing your decided upon claims. Can you confirm this, and if so tell us what action(s) open you up for review, and which do not? Thank you.
@DopamineSink
@DopamineSink Күн бұрын
Adding/removing dependents, applying for VA loan, applying for CHAMPVA, Title 35 etc are not claims actions because they are based on your rating/status only. Applying for something like adaptive housing or vehicle etc. however, IS, as the VBA has to reassess your condition to make sure it qualifies for that grant. Im not sure about VR&E, however, because I've never used it.

Mostly use VA healthcare.. I'm slightly over 50% . Have found out that you get no help from VA but you get treatment.. I have heard many times when asking the doctors questions.. Why do you care since you are over 50% then we have to treat you anyways no matter what going on? I have even been told numerous times by many doctors when asking questions that they can't even write diagnosis down because it would be a conflict of interest.. WTH.. I got where I am with a lot of work and finally got on a CUE (critical and undeniable error) from VA.. I just looking through records still and now found another mistake by the VA which cost a claim. I'm still fighting them. The duty to assist should be redifined.. they are just like here is a prescription so we are treating you and therefore assisting you. I am still not giving up. I hear all this stuff about the VA worried about fraud.. I know it happens but damn I got causes and diagnosis and medical records and doctors statements and just all kinds of strait up proof and still uphill battle.. all I'm saying is the VA does not seem to just hand ratings out like a lot of people think.

Your paper should say permanent and total, if you haven’t get a re-exam over 2 years its most likely P&T. Call the Va they will tell you if you are or not.

You can call the VA 1800# and press the number for claims and disabilities. Then ask if you have any future examinations. If they say no, no more exams scheduled, then you are static. You may be able to ask if you are static as well. If that does not work you’ll have to request you code sheet from your VBA location or submit a FOIA request on the VA website. (6-12 months) Some locations will print it out for you, some will not. I personally like having my code sheet because it has so much on it that the VA does not share with you. It’s a in-depth breakdown of every claim you have submitted, granted or denied, and the reasoning.

Kind of off topic but I was wondering the correct steps to take if I have a current pending claim and was diagnosed with a separate condition that isn't included in that claim. Do I submit a new claim, a supplemental or wait? Also, I read somewhere that Asthma as a presumptive under the PACT Act has to be within 10 years of discharge, is that true? I'm 20 years out and just got that diagnosis. Thanks for any info.

They used to slip up and include the code sheet with rating decisions in the 90s. Now you have to get your C-File via FOIA request.

As someone who is at 80 and looking to increase, where do you recommend I start? I use VA as my primary healthcare and my doctor is great but my local mental health sucks! I had two follow ups and the lady couldn’t stop joking around, almost like she wanted to be my “friend”. I enjoyed the specialist before because I could air my anxiety out easier. Anyone have any advice or suggestions?
