Re barking. I once had a dog who had no control over her barking. Luckily I came across an idea that helped a lot. The thing was to teach the dog to “speak” on command. That’s the easy bit. You just need a doorbell! Then you teach “stop”.

I saw that on another It’s Me Or The Dog episode! She taught the dogs to speak on command, then to stop on command and it helped so fast! It’s so interesting and impressive how much that helps

@ I had that dog over 25 years ago so it was before It’s Me Or The Dog. My dog still had trouble stopping. It was funny listening to her try not to bark and snort. But I told her she was good because she was trying.

@@JenKirby that’s adorable! I love dogs with silly little barks! My 5 month old puppy rarely ever barks, but when she does I expect it to be quiet and careful, but it never is, so she always scares me half to death when she does her ‘little’ play barks

What's funny is my girl doesn't know speak. As she is a quiet dog and doesn't have a specific trigger. Sometimes its' people coming aro8nd a corner, sometimes it's the door bell, Sometimes it's a squirrel... both other times. She doesn't react to any of the previously mentioned. However, she picked up on "enough" or quiet almost instantly.

Totally, I've had lots of success putting a behavior I don't always want, on a cue. Our neighborhood kids are ECSTATIC that they're allowed to tell my dog to jump on them, now that she knows both On and Off.
