I played a lot of RPGs with heavy dialogue. Video games boosted my English vocab way above the rest of the class when I was a kid and I knew a lot of words the other kids didn't, and then playing them in Japanese boosted my fluency faster than my peers. So from a language point of view games were a fantastic learning tool. Not sure about the rest though, I haven't noticed much

When I was a child, Only games I was playing is tomb raider 3 and 4. For a person my age at that time those games were brutally hard for me, so it took me years to complete them and I played a decent hours each day. There was no hand handling in the game, no guides, no internet, nothing to help me. I got stuck in some places for months and I can't tell you how satisfied I was when I figure things out. I learned how to explore, how to remember paths I need to back track, I learned to dare to try crazy things, I learned to control my fears, to think out of the box and most importantly, I learned to never let go! Thank you lara croft for what you taught me.

so true... i tell people that all the time... you get more attached to character because for the majority of the game you are that character and as they work their way through their story you are right there with them rooting them on, feeling their pain, or happiness... more so then just watching actors portray a character on TV. Zacks death even tho you know its bound to happen, that lead up to that point is so epic then when he falls to the ground and the cutscene plays you cant help but get all emotional...

@unnamed71582 жыл бұрын
True but the reason a lot of people think games are bad is because you can increase these skills without video games and much faster in a more natural way with more benefits (health / fitness / useful at jobs) for example: Maths - Ability to perceive a problem clearly and arrive at a solution has increased significantly Football - Decision making speed has increased Art - Attention to detail Dodgeball - Reaction speed Consider too that the skills you choose to develop may in isolation be useless in real life (e.g. fast reaction time but obese and slow) or not be easily applied to any job you do in the future. There are also tradeoffs spending all your time in front of a screen e.g fitness levels, myopia and bad eye sight and so on... this leads many people to see it as a waste of time when you could probably just work harder in school (Maths / Art) and exercise (Football / Dodgeball) and get the exact same results in less time with positive side effects instead of negative. Not to say games aren't amazing and very fun but just my perspective.
@caesar77862 жыл бұрын
@@unnamed7158 a lot? More like a few people. Probably, but it's subjective, and no, wrong..without video games, learning those wouldn't be as fun & enjoyable, and even some of the things you've mentioned, like math, school, etc are actually more frustating than entertaining, lol, thus, make you much slower at learning..but in video games, internet, etc, learning those can be fun & entertaining. Also, pls explain what makes you think video games aren't as natural as footballs, maths, etc? Who said that video games can't give you health benefits, fitness, etc? The "video games only have bad effects" is just a plain myth, and has been debunked by a lot of people..btw, in fact, many people learned about things through video games, youtube, etc much more than in schools. Math video games exist..math itself for a lot of people is actually more frustating than entertaining. You can also learn problem-solving in video games effectively without being frustated. Video games about football exist..btw, you act that footballs don't have bad effects, lol..their bad effects can actually be way worse, for example, extreme physical injuries. Video games is a form of art So, you think dodgeballs don't have bad effects? If video games give you bad effects such as eye problems, then dodgeballs can also give you physical injuries, lol. Both have their own pros and cons..again, video games can also make you better at reaction speed as good as them, and they're not just about balls, since video games vary differently. Wdym in isolation? Lol, what makes you think playing video games requires you to be in isolation? Also, playing video games DON'T automatically make you obese or fat, as long as you still do fitness. Why? Tell me the reason..you probably just making up things. Yes, because spending all your time doing nothing in front of a screen is basically the same as having fun, learning cognitive skills, problem-solving, better reaction speed, learning things through them, for example, languages, animals, etc, reducing stress, improving brain & mental health, and many more. Also, everything has its own pros and cons, not only video games..so, you're being inconsistent here, for example, football can lead into physical injuries, concussions, traumatic brain injuries, etc..math, for a lot of people, is much more frustating than entertaining, so they would actually be more stressful rather than a way to learn. schools are mostly about grades & passing, not learning..in fact, i learned things much more through video games, movies, KZbin, google, etc than in schools, lol..schools are actually frustating & stressful. Sure, you can work harder in them, but again, it would just be more stressful & depressing..while in video games, movies, internet, etc, you can learn without worrying about depression and stuff, and you don't need to work as hard. Again, math video games exist..but it's not the only genre that you can learn about problem-solving, most of other genre of video games can make you better at it. Lol, who said that footballs don't have bad benefits? Like i said before, everything has its own pros and cons, not just video games..if video games can lead to eye problems, then football actually can lead to physical injuries, high rates of concussions, traumatic brain injuries, etc. "less time", that's subjective..you can get the exact same results by playing video games, but with much more varied things, while football, dodgeball, etc are just about balls, while video games vary differently. Lmao, are you joking or what? You think video games only have bad effects and don't have positive effects? Lol, this video and the entire comment section prove the other way around..again, playing video games can lead to numerous positive effects, such as cognitive skills, improving mental & brain health, problem-solving, learning things such as languages, animals, countries, etc, which disproves all of your claims. Yes, that's just your perspective, and your perspective is bad and you definitely should feel bad about it.

I hate when people say video games are violent or a waste of time, and yet EVERYONE is always watching rated R movies. at least you interact with it when you play video games, movies are sitting there staring at a screen while not moving.
@Vik19192 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I noticed it too but I am happy that evidence of games improving your brain exists. You can use it to dispute non-gamers' claims against video games. I find that to be quite satisfying. Games like Professor Layton and Ace Attorney actually improved my argument skills and puzzle solving skills. I still have 2 PL and 3 AA games to play so that's neat. Shooting games increased my reaction time, RPG games taught me many life lessons and improved my vocabulary. Strategy games like Fire Emblem improves, well, strategy. Challenging games builds my courage, determination and will power. Pretty sure there's more. I just play them for fun but the benefits is a welcome bonus.
@unnamed71582 жыл бұрын
True but you can improve those quickly and in a more easily applicable way Dodgeball - Reaction time, Study religion and philosophers - life lessons Practice writing stories and reading - improved my vocabulary Playing sports - strategy Proper self motivation everyday learning how to have internal drive - Courage, determination and will power. The problem is when these games are taken away will you be able to compete with someone in real life in terms of reaction time who practices in real life vs you who practices in a game. The answer is likely no also many parents dream is for their childs to be successful and nearly all of the things above as alternatives correlate with higher income and better life outcomes than gaming: millionaires read more than average people, millionaires spend less time on devices and social media, millionaires spend more time playing sports. Also due to evolution the skills you don't use decay over time which of course causes concern for parents as children develop imaginary skills in games instead of real life applicable ones that will help them in life. This isn't meant to throw you of gaming I think it's wonderful just trying to explain the other side of the coin.

@@unnamed7158 playing video games can improve those things as good, fast, and applicable way.. It's subjective, and no, wrong..without video games, learning those wouldn't be as fun & enjoyable, and even some of the things you've mentioned, like math, school, etc are actually more frustating than entertaining, lol, thus, make you much slower at learning..but in video games, internet, etc, learning those can be fun & entertaining. Video games can improve your reaction time as quick as it..and you wouldn't get physical injuries, and they're leagues ahead in terms of variation..dodgeball is just about ball, while video games vary differently. Life lessons could also be achieved through playing games, and even better..again, some people find it not as entertaining & exciting as playing games, for example, in games, you're experiencing the stories in the games. What about people who don't know how to make stories then? Or people who doesn't like reading? Yes, you can, but playing video games can also improve it as good & fast..and it's much more fun & enjoyable, while at the same time learning things like vocabulary Strategy & sport games exist But again, it's subjective..and yes, playing video games can make you better at strategy as good as sports, you wouldn't get physical injuries, traumatic brain injuries, etc, and they're much more varied, not just about balls. Who said that you can't get motivations from games? Again, you're just talking nonsense. It's subjective, but yes you can..so your answer is likely no. Who said that you can't be successful as a gamer or by playing video games as one of the ways? And again, that's subjective, but yes video games can also come with income as good and life outcomes..yes, there are countless of examples of gamers, for example gaming KZbinrs who live a happy life, which debunks your nonsense claim. Not all millionaires read more than average people Not all millionaires spend less time on devices Not all millionaires spend more time playing sports You're just generalizing people, m8. And do you think there aren't millionaire gamers? Yes there are, just a quick search and you'll find them. wdym by due to evolution the skills you don't use decay over time? That has nothing to do with this. Video games literally have tons of real life based skills..realism exists in even the most fantastious game. So your comment makes no sense Uh, yes? Playing video games can improve real life skills that would help us better in life, such as cognitive skills, and many more. But unfortunately, none of the things you've said was true.

I found this video to be really insightful and it provides an interesting perceptions of video games. I also found the "too much of everything" part to be extremely relevant to the elements presented in your video. I personally find that games tend to take the blame for issues that arise from misuse or abuse of gaming features or contents. Just like you stated, if someone dies from water toxicity, we would not start claiming that water is dangerous for health and yet quite a lot of people tend to place a lot of focus on the negative aspects of video games while simply overlooking the positive impacts that video games may have on social as well as mental health. I believe that for a lot of things we need to focus on the positive more than just berating anything simply for the sake of standing out or trying to seem like a special snowflake who does not follow current trends. All the positive aspects highlighted in your video would hopefully encourage a more welcoming perspective on video games. I just want to say kudos for this video and keep up the good work to change the mindset of our society on video games. #gaminglife

As long as people play games not out of sheer habit, but also with tangible goals, such as defeating a tough boss, utilizing strategy against human players, solving a tough stage/puzzle, it should be a lot of brainpower needed to properly exercise the brain. Most 'true' gamers do play games that require more gamer input than just sheer repetition or mindless button mashing, so it likely means most games have the capacity to make players smarter and properly mentally stimulated.
@Vik19192 жыл бұрын
Yeah but even single player action video games can have a positive effect, just take games like Dark Souls and Monster Hunter for example. It isn't just "attack enough and you win", you actually have to pay attention to items, environment, weakness, weapons, monsters' moves etc. And then there are games like Professor Layton and Pheonix Wright which is solely based on using your brain power.
@orfeas86 жыл бұрын
Of course they do! Who wondered about this? Gaming can inspire you, stimulating your imagination and lead to giving birth to extremely unique and ahead of our time ideas. It is like opening a treasure chest, our own minds. It just needs some moderation, so it can fit in your program without prohibiting you taking care of tasks and enjoying other things, like going out or work on something you love.
