Been on frequent business trip to Vietnam for the past 5 years excluding pandemic period. I felt alittle let down on the infrastructure development of Metro and road widening. The government needs a more holistic approach and planning to reform HCMC and Hanoi to become world class city. It is happy to see foreign investment that brings economy growth to Vietnam, but Vietnam needs to ride on this wave to transform the country. China did a remarkable good job in term of roads, train system, bridges. This enable to rapid connect network between cities and drive connectivity of people and business. Many countries also have tiny sectors in high tech. You should look at what Vietnam is mainly doing in the top 3 services, agriculture and manufacturing industries. I’m sure whatever you listed account for small percentage of gdp contribution in Vietnam. It’s more appropriate to say that Vietnam is growing like China and if Vietnam is good and grows for the next 20 years, they still have a challenge to see if they can upgrade their economy to an advanced economy or get stuck like China in the middle income trap. We are all watching so don’t count your eggs before they hatch like the Chinese do, look what these Chinese do to themselves.
@DanKann867 ай бұрын
@@ditsygirl5409 "Many" can be a vague word for comparison. It can also be said that many countries don't have a significant domestic high tech sector. For another perspective, the ICT/digital economy, this sector accounts for 14% of Vietnam's GDP for 2022. Look up: "Vietnam records best-ever performance in digital economic development". For comparison, the U.S. is at the forefront of this industry and this sector accounts for 9% of its GDP in 2022 (Statista). Some other developed countries are even less. ICT/Digital industry is regarded the industry of the future. Vietnam has some world-class tech companies such as FPT/FPT software, Viettel, VinAI. There are other industries as well with many significant progress being made in the past decade. This includes branded cars, ships of many types, large oil rigs, advanced missiles, weapon systems, robotics, medical devices, vaccines (including COVID, first African Swine Fever vaccine), smart phones/devices (BKav, Vinsmart), IC chips (FPT Semiconductor), indigenous 5G (Viettel), super-tall skyscrapers (Landmark 81, Empire City). Samsung by far is the largest foreign company in Vietnam, accounting for 20% of the country's export. Just over 50% of its smartphones are made there where the majority (and rising) of the components are produced by local firms there. Look up: "215 local firms part of Samsung’s supply chain". Sure, Vietnam has a long way to go reach the technological-industrial level of said S. Korea and more improvements are needed in the industrial progress and domestic policies areas. Also, Vietnam did not get the level of technological and economic support that S. Korea received (since the 50s) from the U.S. As with Japan, the U.S. needed S. Korea and Taiwan to be economically strong to serve as bulwarks against Soviet Union, China and N. Korea. Compared to its peers (or above) who had a head start such as Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, Egypt, so on; Vietnam is doing quite well on the technological and economic progression front. Vietnam is not China and it has taken its own paths on the domestic and international fronts.

Is this called falling into the middle-income trap? And there is no middle-income trap at all. You see that some countries’ nominal GDP per capita in US dollars seems to have stagnated in the past ten years, so you think they have fallen into a middle-income trap? Didn’t you know that the past ten years were a strong phase of the U.S. dollar cycle? This decade the U.S. dollar will depreciate and their nominal U.S. dollar GDP per capita will increase significantly. Moreover, Chinese people have the highest IQ in the world. Is there any reason why the Chinese people are not the first in the world per capita? China's per capita GDP has increased 11 times in the past decade, and even increased 16 times in central provinces. Don't say that the base is low so the growth rate is fast. Vietnam's desire to become a developed country mainly depends on whether it can smoothly carry out industrial upgrading. Producing clothes and shoes is not enough to become a developed country. If industrial upgrading fails, it will become a breeding ground for other developed countries and be harvested periodically. When Vietnam undergoes industrial upgrading, it will inevitably touch the interests of Western countries and be suppressed by them through various means, just like China's current situation. What's different is that China has strong military power, which allows it to say no to unreasonable demands from Western countries

The irony is that Japan is building the first metro line in HCMC and it's been delayed for 12 years now and still not open. How will Vietnam ever develop first world infrastructure like China did at the pace it's on. It's done an amazing job at improving the lives of the poor and becoming an export powerhouse but it sucks at developing big infra projects. And now it's growth seems to be moderating as it's heavily dependent on exports meaning a economic decline in the West impacts it more than other countries. And the video compared total GDP, asking when VN can reach 4T. But that's a pointless number, Japan is about 25% higher population. However, I have never seen a country like Japan, where the peasants and children always live with smiles on their faces." The philosophy of Japanese companies is that "companies must contribute to society." That is why, in times of disaster, Japanese confectionery companies will distribute bread free of charge to disaster victims during deliveries at the discretion of the delivery driver, and drink vending machines will be free. With a mentality like China and the West, where people prioritize their own desires without respecting others in times of disaster, they will not be able to catch up with Japan.

At this time, Japan's nominal US dollar per capita GDP has reached as high as 44,210 US dollars (2 times the purchasing power parity), while Singapore's 24,910 US dollars (2/3 of the purchasing power parity). All of this comes from the violent appreciation of the yen, but Japan's industries are not high-end enough, resulting in nominal GDP per capita in US dollars being unable to grow, waiting for purchasing power parity to match it. Later, the so-called reason for losing 30 years was that the violent appreciation of the yen enabled Japan to gain 30 years first. The sharp appreciation of the yen and maintaining a high exchange rate of the yen have both disadvantages and advantages. The disadvantage is that Japan will no longer have only ordinary products or will have fewer ordinary products, which will affect the purchasing power parity growth rate of GDP per capita (the real growth rate after excluding inflation). Japan's general product production capacity will be transferred abroad and then imported. The advantage is that Japan will focus on the production, R&D, and design of high-end (complex) products, which will increase the complexity of the Japanese economy. Although everyone thinks that Japan has lost 30 years, overall Japan has not lost anything. Due to the sharp appreciation of the yen under the Plaza Accord, Japan first gained 30 years and then lost 30 years.

I don't think this two countries are comparable. Japan was a industrialized great power that can produce aircraft carriers in wwII. Although their factories were destroyed they still had the skillful workers and technology helped them recover easily. Vietnam is a pre-industrialize country selling their cheap labors.

Now Vietnamese labors are making high-end industrial products and technologies. Soon Vietnam will become a developed country in 20 years later!

@@angkhoanguyen6114 Vietnam won't become a developed country if they only assemble high end products. Which parts of the products are produced in Vietnam? Building the assembly lines is easy but the supply chain is expensive and difficult. Without the supply chain, Vietnam can't keep the profits of the high end products.

I think the first thing we should aim for is not to become Japan, but to join the so-called Four Little Dragons of Asia (Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong) lol. Japan is the Great Dragon of Asia and China is the Shenron😅

All South East Asian countries will become more affluent, richer and this include Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. The combined GDP of these 5 countries will easily double in the next 10 - 12 years, so, it would be close to US$7tn.

For some wierd reason,ppl keep thinking only japan is rich or developed. The richest country in asia for the LAST 2 DECADES been SINGAPORE, yes in SOUTHEAST ASIA, NOT EAST ASIA!!😂Singapore also is ranked most developed country in asia❤❤If u google it, u'll see the country popped up TOP in all sources is Singapore,NOT Japan!!!😂 Another fun fact is: Singapore has the highest avg salary in asia/world no 3, Japan been behind Singapore for 2 decades & ppl still think its 1990 now😂🤣 Vietnam avg salary is still at shocking low, about 15 times LOWER than Singapore!!❤ Japan avg salary been behind Singapre, that explains why many japanese & Koreans too been working in singapore for higher salary & refuse to go back home!! Also not many ppl know that Singapore is the biggest investor in Vietnam with a total registered capital of $2.55 billion, up by 51.3 percent from 2023.❤ITS NOT JAPAN, Hello??!!
Hardly, without high-tech development and high education, you can't become a developed country.
