I've been waiting to see Derek Epp play for an entire match, and it really seems like he's the guy Canada needs in the setter position right now. His decision making on the court is on point.

Epp-cellent! 😉

Indeed. It seemed like Canada's setters (aside from TJ Sanders) over the past few years had no connection with the hitters. Hopefully Epp solves that issue.

Team China really need to work on their service reception and servers. Consistency is everything when it comes to a higher level competition. They got potential but still lack of experience and practice. Anyway, great work Team Canada!

Awesome job, Canada! Canada finally started their best roster with Swarc and Berkel as their bigs, instead of Howe who stands at 6'5. Most setters are bigger than him. Second, Canada had excellent service reception in match and that kickstarts their offense. Third, Slater was a beast hitting from the opposite. He was money all match long. Josephson should keep this lineup going forward and stops playing many of his University players. Howe to name a few.

I don't think Van Berkel is a huge upgrade over Howe; he just seems so slow (although he's huge). Wasn't Van Berkel also one of Josephson's players at TWU (along with Epp and half the team)?
@PQV-88982 жыл бұрын
@@annac4680 Van Berkel is 6'10 and though he isn't quick like you said, he can block much better than Howe standing a good 5" taller. Seriously who plays middle at this international level standing a puny 6'5? Maybe highschool. And regarding the TWU players, I'm referring to the new, young players BJ brought up with him this year.
@ethanbursey35222 жыл бұрын
@@PQV-8898 I think you’re not giving Howe enough credit, in the VNL he had the highest blocking stat other than Stephan Maar on the whole roster, and his attack percentage is utterly insane. He is leaps and bounds better than Arthur Swarc in my opinion, Swarc causes so many errors at the net that his good blocking only really makes up for the points he loses, let alone the fact that Howe is 6’5” and can reach h just as high as Swarc.
@PQV-88982 жыл бұрын
@@ethanbursey3522 Maybe you're right. I know Howe is very good but I just can't get over how short he is. No team, ever, plays a middle at 6'5. Sure he can jump but it's about reach in the middle for those quick blocks or net dumps. When you're 5-6 inches shorter it takes that much longer to get your arms up to block. Thanks for your insight.

@@Deandless88 Probably just getting older? He's only 32 though and he's still playing professionally.
@ethanbursey35222 жыл бұрын
@@Deandless88 Pretty sure the reason he retired was because he was so used to TJ Sanders setting, but we don’t think TJ is coming back, so a couple of the older national players left.

I think they accidentally showed the 1st point of the second set, then changed it back to first set highlights, if you look at the set scores
