could build something similar new with a 12100f for barely 400$, while eliminating those bottlenecks and getting like 30% more performance in most cases. if you went a used video card like a 5700xt or 1080 you could get well over 50% higher framerate, as long as your PSU is good enough

I added 16gb of RAM, a 512GB m.2 SSD and a Gigabyte GTX 1660S (I had to buy a 6pin to 8pin adapter but it's much safer compared to the sata to 6/8pin adapter) It cost me a total of 260€ and it's quite small so I am really pleased with its performance overall.

I know why thew i7 7700 was heating up... It is because that dell cpu heatsink was meant to be paired up with a lower wattage cpu. I had a dell with a cpu T version which was 35 watts and it had the same heatsink as the one that is in your pc (thin). I also upgraded mine awhile ago to the I7 7700 and I had to get the thicker heatsink that dell makes to handle the i7. It is the exact heatsink but much thicker.

@TheGameBench Жыл бұрын
I just tested one in a SFF HP Z240 with the same cooler and it cools the 7700 just fine. Their issue was 100% a paste issue, as they stated in the video. If you have a 7700 that is having cooling issues, it probably needs to be delidded and have the paste between the die and IHS replaced.

@b0ne91 Жыл бұрын
Probably worth getting the E5 2666 v4 instead. At least the 1650 v3 isn't worth it unless you can overclock it properly imo. And with an OEM system, you're very limited in that regard
@Sp3cialk304 Жыл бұрын
@@b0ne91 they would perform about the same. Both could handle up to a 5700xt or so. The 2666 has more cores and threads. But the 1650 has high core clock speed. When using a 1070 they would perform pretty much exactly the same. Would be the same case if you where using like a R7 1700, i3-12100, R5 3600. I've done a lot of research on old xeons. And Myconst has a ton of videos comparing many of them using a Rx 5700 xt.

@@Sp3cialk304 Anyway, E5 2666 v4 has massive cache compared to the 1650 v4. It's just not worth going with the 6 cores for 3-400Mhz or so when you're losing out on massive cache. OEM system also means you can't even tune RAM timings except maybe using Taiphoon to write SPD for primaries. Your suggestion is good, but the CPUs you suggested aren't the best if you're going with a used X99 workstation. I'm friends with Miyconst and I'm sure he'd agree. He's been trying to steer people away even from Chinese X99 for a while. But if you can find ultra budget workstations, get the 2666 v4 imo.

You can get whole Skylake LGA 2066 systems (Like Dell T5820 or Lenovo P520) for about $150-250 with a W-2135 or W-2145 (6-core,8-core) processor and 32GB of RAM. Add a $40 1TB NVMe and $100 RX5700XT and you are actually sitting pretty good. The power supply in a workstation class is going to start at 400-500, many are 600-900. Also you get 2 full x16 slots electrically and 2 NVMe x4 and a spare x8 slot all from the processor. Now that Alder Lake based Xeons are dropping soon maybe we'll see some deals on Sapphire Rapids? 7700 is a little wack, could hop up to an i5 9500 system with 16GB of Ram and potentially have a better experience. Kllisre ram is $22 for 2x16GB, so don't be afraid of the barebones elitedesk/prodesk etc

The 7700 is a hot chip, I changed the stock cooler for a newer version of the hyper 212 evo and temperatures were still not what I call great, oem prebuilt pc bioses don't even let you change fan speeds so larger coolers can only do so much...
