Great talk thank you! Radical acceptance of who we inherently are at a human emotional level is the first step. If we can get control over our emotions we can’t get control over our brain and behaviour. It starts with the self and growing love and compassion for others. Especially those we disagree with.

More a question for a psychologist, has there ever been something like "control over ones emotion" beyond the fictitious Spock?...

*Wisdom means:* ➡knowing our *limits.* ➡seeing in *systems* and *root causes.* ➡understanding the *interconnected complexity.* Well we have a momentous challenge ahead of us

Incredibly inspiring to hear the future of systemic change as a college student making a film about how youth are driving the future of this movement!

Tristan's role in the emerging post-human, hive mind panopticon is to assure us that technology overlording of society is good, safe, progressive, equitable and necessary, and that this initiative in the hands of wise, loving prudent gods. Brought to you from the Stanford school of ethical social engineering.

I honestly have no clue as to what you are talking about. Tristan is an incredibly beneficial voice in the humanization of critical information technologies.

Awesome Tristan! This amazing presentation is so useful to make sense of what is happening (but also not losing our mind) and become aware of how far TECH THREAT has come. So many precious gems in such a short time! Here's a few that I will continue to ponder on... (but will write down more later on) -Perception gap, reality jamming, empathy deficit, cognitively impenetrable... new precious vocabulary to understand and explain to others. -Old paradigm vs Humane Technologist (the Kind Technologist :) -"We need the Philosophical operating system to deal with the new kinds of AI ..." How do we trigger a mass "brain upgrade" across continents in a short time? -"Our ability to meet the world's challenges depends on us making sense and coordinating together" YES! Thank you so much! This beautiful community you have generated with so much love and determination, is growing every day, across the world and, yes, you help us cultivate Radical Hope, with more and more international coordination, we will triumph!

Nice Consilience Project plug. Been following you guys' and Schmachtenberger's work for a while. Deeply appreciate all these perspectives. I am not a technologist but I study conflict resolution. Awareness of these aspects of the intersection of tech and society seem absolutely fundamental going forward.

What a Great talk by Tristan Harris. The way he spills out how tech is and where it's heading definitely makes us be self aware and have wisdom while using tech. I really need to appreciate Tristan and Centre for humane technology team for doing such a great work. Introducing a course is one of the best things by the team. Always support your work.

Humane technology is even more important in developing countries since the adoption and use of especially the internet is seen as the essence of "development" without enough guidance about what the dangers are and how to educate our young people to "digital literacy" that includes the principles of sense making and humane technology. Thanks Tristan!!!

"When it's free, you are the product." But then I imagine that if the source is non-profit the rule does not apply. 🙂 Really like your talks, Tristan, always very clear, hard hitting but with no sarcasm, meanness nor negativity. By the way, one of the 12 leverage points (#2) doesn't make sense, there seem to be a few words missing. Thanks for all your efforts, you are doing the right(eous) thing.

@@CenterforHumaneTechnology I'd rather phrase it as 2- "Mindset or paradigm out of which the system arises" in bold. And "its goals, structure, rules, delays and parameters" in regular font afterward. "Arises" should be in bold because it is a key word in point number two. I think that may make it clearer for future presentations and you'll avoid confusing people like me and having them go on and on about it in the comments... 😂🤣

As Jarod Lanier specified in Social Dilemma ""It's the gradual, slight, imperceptible change in your own behavior and perception that is the product." So the real market takes place around who wishes to implant what in our minds and makes the best offer... bad actors included as amusingly exposed by Bill Maher in this brilliant (and frightening) clip kzbin.info/www/bejne/o36lq5mLn5qtqck

how did i miss this damn. 2020, when social dilemma came out, i took an oath that my destination is to work with CHT in any way possible. Two years gone by, I still have the hunger and desire coz the polarization surrounding me is so preposterous. One day, tristan, one day, i will be there.

I agree that people have poorly founded beliefs about other tribes (“most dems are LGBT, most Reps are rich”) but other tribes do legitimately have extremely different beliefs that significantly compromise the interests of other tribes. That’s part of the reason for hostility being more popular, compromise means we both lose. I also certainly prefer the old tech paradigm to “humane technology”. All this talk of wisdom and maturity is just privileging a given position, better to let everyone have their fun and freedom.

I think ultimately the only way society will ever adopt these ethical principles is if the entire capitalist system collapses and humanity realises that we MUST adopt an ethical approach to AI and politics if we are to survive. I suspect that without that we’re sleepwalking into a catastrophe.
