Rachel, To save the Basil...Pick the Basil; Wash and dry; Wrap the Basil in layer style( like lasagna) using wax paper as layers; ROLL the whole bundle up; Fold the ends up and secure with rubber bands; Place this bundle into zip lock bag and label it Basil; Put the bag into the freezer for cooking projects for future; This process can be used for Parsley, Oregano, Thyme as well!!!! Will last up to a year in the bundle....Cheers from Maine.

Our corn is now about 8 inches tall .. second crop of the year, first one finished up before the 4th 😊 We planted sunflowers along with the corn, again .. makes an even better support for the pole beans, and gives the birds a place to come land and hunt for grasshoppers. (edit) Take a piece of 2" PVC pipe, and slide it over your T-post to get a bit more vertical real estate - no need for a longer post!

As part of your water plan, y'all are great at sourcing items for a great price. I suggest food grade totes and catch tons of rainwater to use in your garden. I don't remember if you already have gutters on any of your buildings, but some rednecktification of some larger PVC pipe or metal pipe works too. Gravity feed or small pump helps a lot. Texas Deb ❤

Just NW of Green Bay is a flat area with black soil. It's locally called the "Muck Farms". They plant and harvest veggies for commercial production, but also have roadside stands. Rather than taking space to plant a lot of potatoes, beets and onions, my parents would go and buy 25 or 50# bags of produce right from the grower. We still planted a few hills at home for immediate consumption, but it was handy to be able to process things like the beets all at once. Pickled beets and bags of frozen shredded beets ready to make borscht. Yum! Central WI also grows a lot of potatoes. We just keep them (russets) in the cellar and they winter over quite well.

Just any idea Rusty. Spray paint the inside with white flat plaint to reflect and keep it cool until you can get more dirt next year

Hear that on the water bill, yep need a well for sure, wish i had one. Mine was 100.00 for 1month &thats not using water for garden and only 1 person in town. Here ya gotta have separate meter for water outside or you get charged for sewer use too regardless even if you don't use it. 😮 yeah that's crazy😊
