Probably needs new piston rings or new sleeves. If it has too much compression it's not going to run properly on pump gas.
@davelowets
@davelowets 2 жыл бұрын
Old bikes loose compression as they age and accumulate miles, not gain it.
@AshtrayAnnie
@AshtrayAnnie 2 жыл бұрын
@@davelowets I'm well aware that's how it usually works. But in some cases the Pistons and/or rings expand, making them fit tighter in the sleeve. This is most likely what's going on, either that or valves aren't opening to alleviate and let the exhaust breathe. It just doesn't make sense why it would have that much compression...
@davelowets
@davelowets 2 жыл бұрын
@@AshtrayAnnie How could the "valves not open"? 😕 "Pistons and rings expand in some cases" Huh?? They expand EVERY time the engine gets hot, and then they shrink back down once it cools. But they certainly do NOT just "grow" on their own over time and affect the compression ratio. Wow.
@davelowets
@davelowets 2 жыл бұрын
@@AshtrayAnnie Believe me, the compression was there when the factory built it, or else someone put a high-compression piston in it at one point in it's life. Engines don't just gain compression over time, it's not possible on it's own. In an extreme case, heavy carbon deposits can form on the piston and in the combustion chamber that could very SLIGHTLY increase the compression ratio, but nothing like what your thinking.
@AshtrayAnnie
@AshtrayAnnie 2 жыл бұрын
@@davelowets You've never heard of a stuck valve? And these bikes were made very cheaply, depending on materials used some metals are more malleable than others. It's not the first time I've seen an older engine with more compression than it should have. It's pretty clear you 'tinker' with motors the odd time and think you know everything though🤣. I'm well aware what rings are suppose to do. I'm saying it's not always the case. You might've worked on a few v8s but you obviously haven't worked on many different bike engines. The difference in metals, materials, especially from manufacture to manufacture is quite different. Old bikes were all over the place.

so many times have i been yelled at in the garage while holding the light for my old man. i finally went over kill with lights to kinda put a stop to it, finger lights, wrist, head lamps, magnetic flexible. he loves them even the ones i got that was more of a joke. the ones on the fingers if they dont get in the way can be handy.

I have a Vintage Suzuki DR370 Dirt bike that needs some love, but i'm going into this blind with little to no mechanical experience and there are practically no videos about that bike on youtube. Could really use some advice!

😂Looks like me trying to wheelie my GSXR after 14 years off of a street bike. Good on you for fixing these legendary fun toys.

You do know you can use a universal carb? I would have done that for my shadow except Honda stuffed a dual carb in between the cylinders on their V-Twins.

I've wanted the Honda Fat Cat since I first saw then in early 200. I've never been too good on 2 wheels but grew up riding 4 wheelers so I figured something like this is ideal for me. Nice work getting her going. Also yall should check out BVC Offroad, he takes new dirt bikes and builds them into these big wheels and he has some BA builds.
