Can We Legally Move In? | Building a House Ep. 27

In this Building a House Episode we push to get our certificate of occupancy in just two weeks. Before we can even apply we must cross off everything on our checklist. Starting out with the mechanicals: Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC. Once the mechanicals are approved then we can start on our checklist for the building inspection. This includes Doors on, Final Paint, Trim & Stairs, Locks, Front Columns, Complete Insulation. Some others for our own personal benefit include the hardwood floor, appliances, and cabinet pulls. Stay tuned to see how far we get on our checklist and if we get our certificate of occupancy.

@@FarisandLisa I can only tell you what we did basement wise, maybe it will give you some ideas. Home Theatre, crafts room for the wife, workshop for my tools etc. washroom, mechancials room, cold storage and in the middle a summer kitchen with sitting area that leads to the walk out, I believe you have a walkout basement as well? No matter what you do I am sure it's going to be amazing and we'll all be here watching 🥸

Everything is absolutely beautiful! One question, what did you use for the shake siding on the front of your house. Are those real cedar shakes/shingles or a composite material?

You guys did such an amazing job. Everything looks so beautiful and the stone feature on the hood in the kitchen looks like a show stopper. Genuine question: why not make that the focal point behind the island instead of the cabinets with the fridge?

Thanks! We agree with you. It was something we added on later in the build and we thought it fit naturally best in the area it is now. Something to improve on in our next build :)

What color of stain you used for doors and ceiling? They look amazing!

Thank you! We used Pine Gray from Shermin Williams. It’s actually from their deck series but we had them put it in their woodscapes formula.
