In this series we will see if we can make a 10 oz. Silver Bar for under 300 dollars .
Our source material will be silver plated flatware and silver plated serving trays .
I’m not ruling out estate sales of sterling silver yet. I would like to see yield data from this batch of silver plated material before using sterling due to the cost.
The next video will be a water cell using no chemicals just water to strip the silver from the plated items.

Schwerters solution is used as a test for silver or karat gold.
Schwerters solution, it’s made from from potassium dichromate, and dilute nitric acid solution.
One recipe:
1/4 Oz. (7.9ml) distilled H2O
15grams K2Cr2O7 (potassium dichromate) (bright orange salt)
3/4 Oz. (22ml) HNO3
Silver = bright blood red
Sterling silver .925 = dark red
0.800 silver = brown
0.500 silver = green
Brass = dark brown
Copper = brown
Nickel = blue
Palladium = no reaction
Gold = no reaction
