First step when making something gourmet: make it a tenth of the size you'd expect a reasonable portion to be. Then when it's that small, it can't be cloyingly sweet because there just isn't enough of it to overwhelm you. I'd like to see the guys compete at making some typical meals gourmet. Maybe do the common packed lunch: a ham and cheese sandwich, packet of crisps or chocolate bar and a drink.

If instead of tin of peaches in syrup they'd had something less sweet and more fresh to make the jello out of, it might've cut through the cloyingness of the whole dish. Perhaps fresh peach purée and a squeeze of citrus in it? Either way, I've got a sweet tooth, and I would definitely have been happy with that served to me as a dessert in a restaurant, though perhaps I'd be a bit surprised if it was a fine dining one. The other way is to dribble chocolate onto a balloon in layers, then put the balloon in the fridge. As the balloon cools down it shrinks and the chocolate hardens, plus you also get the fun spikey "drips" upside down making a more organic bowl.
@grimscreamo17652 жыл бұрын
It's alot easier to use a metal bowl. freeze it overnight and just before you push it into the chocolade wipe it with a clean towel. because the bowl is so cold the cocolade with harden instantly and will get you a bit thicker edge so it isnt so brittle.

This was a really well made dish that used elements of cereal, but I don't know if I'd actually call it gourmet cereal. The eating experience seemed closer to a dessert pudding of some kind, and even though it was visually presented as a cereal bowl, I think the group took it away from the core idea of how people usually interpret cereal. Similar to how Ben took the prompt of gourmet instant noodles and just made an entirely unrelated noodle dish, I feel the team took the prompt of gourmet cereal and made an unrelated dessert dish.

@@SortedFood Okay, massive props to the social media team for that one. S-tier response. And good job on the second try, response-wise.

I don't think it's gourmet, I think they've gone and made it pretentious!

I’d like to see the boys try to make a regular meal/dish gourmet.. perhaps a bowl of soup and half sandwich, or something like that. The end bowl of “cereal” looked good, but way too big to be a gourmet dish on a menu.. those are generally quite a bit smaller. When Barry said 8 sheets of gelatin, I had a feeling it would be really stiff jelly. 4 sheets probably would’ve been enough. Love these.. can’t wait to see the boys (or Ben) make something else gourmet!

The boys have fallen into the exact same trap they made fun of Ebbers for. They took the original dish, blended it up and used it as an ingredient, and then made something completely different that doesn't fit any of the criteria for the original dish they were trying to gourmet. They just tried a little harder to make it look like the original than Ebbers did. If you want something to be gourmet cereal, it still has to be cereal. And a sweet jelly dessert topped with granola is anything but. Still, it was a particularly hilarious video and the end product did look quite nice. Maybe they'll get it right next time!

Reminds me of when cereal milk desserts could be found at a lot of high end restaurants (in NYC) several years ago.

This... Is a masterpiece. This could be served at any Michelin star restaurant. This is peak creativity. If they remake it right, with all of Ben's advice, this would be unbeatable as a dessert.

The best bowl of cereal I ever ate was at a Massachusetts B&B: a bowl of oatmeal with cream and real maple syrup. Simple but divine.

This meets the definition of 'making it gourmet' in the sense they've presented something that at first glance looks run off the mill but upon inspection is something entirely different. Ebber's efforts generally don't meet the requirement as he either a. Makes something totally different with completely different ingredients or b. Treats the base ingredients of the original dish in an entirely different manner creating something again totally different.

I love that the normals are trying to make this gourmet. But I’m also curious to find out what Ben would’ve made out of this… So next time around, maybe have both the normals and Ben give it a go? 👀
