This is one of my favorite episodes. Why?, because of the instructional relationship between Chad and his sons. Chad’s consistent demeanor aids his ability to mentor his sons, all of which respect both of their parents and have a wonderful time together in the shop. Chad’s patience in allowing his sons “on the job training” is exemplary. There is never foul language and always a calm addressing of challenges. Thank you for a great example for others to follow. Chad’s words of wisdom at the end of each episode are icing on the cake and as I have suggested previously, should be compiled into a book or series of books by the same title, “Chad’s words of wisdom.” Thank you for awesome content.

Nice to have a dad that's giving and not like mine who's just a control freak. Mine that would rather put me down then build up. He was a mechanic too but never gave me a thing, not to mention, help build me a car. Your boys are blessed.

Bro, that sucks. My dad would just make excuses, i.e. I don't like Fords, I'm not wasting my time on no foreign car, etc. I had a line on a cherry 72 Malibu for 750 bucks, which was high at the time, but the car was pristine. When I got there with the cash, the price jumped to 850 which I didn't have. I begged my dad to loan me 100 bucks until next payday (I got paid every week, no less) so I could buy the car, but no. I would never learn how to be responsible if he just paid for everything, he said. I just saved my money and then found a 69 Mach 1 for 500 bucks. I bought that sucker right up. It wasn't in as good a shape as the Malibu but I knew it would drive my dad nuts so, all around it worked out.

1965 to 1970 Impala / Caprice rear axles are 64 inches wide wheel to wheel with 4 3/4 bolt pattern. They came in either 10 or 12 bolt.

​@bryanomicioli3301 the 4wd S10 rear axle will bolt in to a 65 to 70 Impala/ Belair ? I have a 67 belair the last owner ran out of gear lube and it wore 1 axle almost in 2. I welded it up and turned it down now I have a vibration at highway speed. Only rear axles I can find are aftermarket and very pricey.

I have always tool my son that there is nothing wrong with wanting more than what you have, but don't let that stop you from enjoying what you do have.. I owned my own shop for many years & now back home just mucking around, but I've always wanted a metal bandsaw for that kind of work! (I reckon my staff would have loved one too!) We really just plasma just a lot of our stuff though I never did get around to finishing the cnc table I started building. One day I hope!! Stick at it guys! 👍

I love, love, love, this video. Showing the kids how to do things in the shop. When I was in school They had all type of shop classes. Now they have nothing of the sort. The cut back that so many city and states have done to our schools hurt the kids more then anyone else. This is also the reason these kids are quick to get into trouble. Give them something to do with their hands and they can take pride in the creations they get to make.

I like the idea of widening the frame and cross member. You have plenty of strength, and you got rid of the weakness from the crumple zones. That's going to be a sweet ride. Have you checked out a f1 Ford rear axle. Pre 1966 should fit the truck perfect, or the 70/80's Ford Bronco. The rear axle was more narrow than the front from factory. The truck is going to be awesome.

That's a cool set up on the tire width but you can get that by measuring for the wheels offset when you have them made so no spacers are used. At least that's what I did when I had my wheels made for my 61 Apache truck. That's a cool build using an S- 10 frame. Take care.

it looks like it could be an 8.2 in 10 bolt cover, they look just like a 12 bolt cover. 64" width came in a B body. The catalog number is passenger side forward quarter of the tube if it's a later model, or on the webbing if its older. Some of them can be really difficult to get gears for. If you have the catalog number I have an old GM axle book kicking around here somewhere. 4 door impala maybe?
