To the point on “you don’t know until you do it” that’s the main reason I watch channels like GHPC, I love to watch how a project comes to fruition in it’s entirety, not “we’re building this cool thing” and then a finger snap and it’s done. I enjoy watching the whole entire building process including the redos or errors, whatever you want to call them.

It's really bad to breath in the tungsten dust. Also some tungsten rods are radiated and breathing that dust is of course even worse. That's why they have those fancy encapsulated grinders. I built my own version, which is a cheap bench grinder with a fitting for a shop vac. I use a cordless drill to spin the rod against a cheap diamond grinding disc that I simply bolted on the outside of the right grindstone. Works a treat and you can still use it as a bench grinder.

@@PennerFab Tungsten is a heavy metal. Outside of your body, no harm done. But getting heavy metals into your system is a different ballgame all together. They bind in tissue and remains in the body, causing a whole range of problems including cancer.
@PennerFabСағат бұрын
Well, that's a general common sense with grinding any metals. Respiratory protection is important no matter what you're grinding or sanding or painting. I was mostly pointing out the only Thoriated toungston is mildly radiated.
@GAIS414Сағат бұрын

Honestly, once you use the tungsten grinder, you will absolutely prefer it. They’re cheap and do an excellent job at grinding the tungsten at any preferred angle leaving perfect stations and in a professional setting it is key but for novice welders, carry-on.

Rotating the pumpkin will definitely work… Did a flip on a rear end once just for fun, and the truck was a 3 speed in reverse lol. Meaning the whole rear axle was installed upside down lol. Reverse gear was one speed forward, and drive was 3 speeds in reverse lol. It was a derby truck 🤣
@JokingJ.3 сағат бұрын
You guys and the peck brothers have to collab with the mini jeeps
@shoveI3 сағат бұрын
Not important for this application but high pinion on a rear axle means the pinion is pulling the ring, rather than pushing it. Much less strong that way. That's OK when all you're moving is a 3/5ths scale mini jeep.
@mikelark20932 сағат бұрын
I was thinking the same....although I've never busted a pinion, I was always told they are a weak point when stressed in reverse. Not like they're putting 300 horsepower to it though....
@thegroundhurtsСағат бұрын
It’s not going to be enough torque to matter. My diesel swapped 4 runner is high pinion rear, no issues with 35’s. And that is with dual cases.
@shoveI22 минут бұрын
@@thegroundhurts yeah this is just conversation for mutual learning not an argument, on a deliberately built high pinion rear axle the outboard pinion bearing will be larger to take the thrust load and the bevel will be cut to minimize the gears pushing each other apart and minimize noise with the teeth riding on that side of each other (vs. riding on the "back" of the teeth). still doesn't matter on this application I think we all agree.

@longbob9545Сағат бұрын
So just a little heads up on your flipped diff in the axle, yes you can do it, but the pinion bearings will not get oil like they normal do and will eventually starve and seize and on a ring and pinion you have two sides to the gear teeth, the drive and coast side, in low pinion the drive side is what's being contacted when going forward, now that you've flipped it the coast side will be taking the force going forward which is weaker and will break eventually. Just a heads up, I've built 100s of axles and used to compete in rock crawling. Good news is when they blow up you can invest in high pinion third members :)
@jerrickmiller812850 минут бұрын
I with it flipped and rotating the opposite direction would it not be running on the correct side of the tooth? But the lube is a thing. I commented above about if the t-case has a pump it also will not lube the input bearing since it is going backwards.
@longbob954546 минут бұрын
@jerrickmiller8128 no the pinion and ring gear still engage the same but now reversed when going forward so the coast side is not drive and drive is coast. high pinion gears are reverse cut for that reason

From what I could tell when you flipped the rear differential cover the fill hole was below the center line so it would be now above the center line making it hold more when filling until it runs out and that’s what you suggested would be best. So if I am right then it should work out great! 👍 ❤

at 20:50 when you need clearance with the links you're not forced to make the mounts taller, you could also bend the links, ok the links would lose strength and will rotate, the mount position is given by the suspension geometry dynamics you want to achieve, so changing this variable could end up worsening the behavior
