Gary, I'm closing on my 50th birthday. I'm glad Harrison is our go-to-salvage guru on these classic locomotives. I got a fleishman remote X-turn out, I emailed him.. Some Germans in El Paso was selling his railroad wares back in the late 1980's.. I got various rolling stock, some were badly damaged, some I messed up in my younger years.. lol

Nice save. It's amazing what minor the work can be when it comes to putting one of these things back on the rails. Just a little clean, lubrication, and re-solder that dodgy wire and she runs great. Back on the move with almost zero spent in parts. Just the penny's worth of Labelle's.

Nicely done. I knew she was a runner, I just assumed it was bad pickup. Side topic: assuming your DC layout cannot do it, you should set up a 6ft tug of war track on a 1x4. Just reverse the wiring on one end, and use a few 50ft idler cars with metal kadees. Would be fun to see which loco is the champ puller. In fact, you could take bets. Not for a loco give away, but maybe a model business(es) named after the winners or something i.e. Todd’s Grocery.

I made a little jig out of a piece of stuff packing plastic in the shape of a Y to hold in the brushes and springs while I screwed the plate in. It works great once you get all the parts lined up. What's kind of interesting about these is the whole Silver Streak thing is taken from the movie of the same name. Apparently that's not copyrighted, or wasn't when Tyco came out with these. But today when Rapido made correct high detail GMD F7 (yes, GMD, EMD in Canada) locomotives that could be decorated in the patch-out "AM-Road" scheme actually used in the movie, they went to the production company and -that- IS copyrighted, the cost to license to offer them factory decorated would have added something like $100 to the cost of each unit.

There is also a shark nose skin of the silver streak it's more of the rear one. I have the Canadiana shark nose and 3 silver streaks. I have one silver streak with a 5 pull motor built into the trucks with tied to the wheels, I think this was a newer upgrade on the older drives but it's a pain to repair you can't remove the motor without breaking it.

My parents let me send off for an offer in the back of the TV guide for the Tyco Silver Streak train set with nite-glow. I was between 10 and eleven years old. The engine stopped working in forward and we sent it to be repaired under warranty and the motor was replaced. We didn't get it back in the mail until right before we had to move to the new Air Force base we'd been given orders to, so I didn't get to put it back on a track until we were all unpacked and settled in our new house in Nebraska. My train worked again for probably the better part of a year, then it did the same thing. I still have the whole set, along with the family's Santa Fe sets. I'm curious to know if new motors can still be bought to get my Silver Streak running again.

Nice video SMT, I was referred to your channel from a viewer on 'Toms Trains and Things, I have a Rivarossi HO steamer 4-4-0 road name is Genoa V.&T.R.R. engine and I haven't run it for about 30 years. The motor runs when connected directly to a 9 volt battery and the motor lead wires but won't run on the track, I'm thinking a electrical contact issue. I've had it disassembled and cleaned and re-assembled 3-4 times and still can't get it to run on the track. Do you have any suggestions on fixing the problem, thanks
@SMTMainline3 жыл бұрын
Have you checked the connections on the tender? Those can be common places for electrical issues on Rivarossi models.
@jeff91043 жыл бұрын
@@SMTMainline Yes, the tender has good continuity (OHMs) through out and over to the engine. There are two horizontal chrome or stainless steel pins that make contact with the inner drive wheels on the engine, I get good continuity on the pins (from the motor) but not on the drive wheels that the pins are physically making contact with ? I don't know much about this stuff but I appreciate your help, thank-again
