The broken plastic piece in the shock is a broken shipping puck from when the vehicle was delivered. It keeps the front of the car raised for removal off the transporter to not scratch the bumper. Looks like the dealer who delivered the car might have not removed it. If the shipping puck was not removed and the car was driven at highway speeds, the spring could have been displaced from the correct position since the car was still raised on that one side. Once the shipping puck cracked and broke off from the impact of driving at highway speed, the spring settled into the incorrect position.

@@snikwadRR Sometimes the transport people are not gentle to the cars and the top spacers get jammed WAY up into the strut boot. When I did PDIs I'd do my best to remove them if they were stuck but some were just beyond retrieval without taking the strut apart, but that means they were also out of the way of suspension travel and it was benign to leave them where they lay.

Amazing work man! E60 M5 gets bad publicity. It’s essentially, like you said, a 4 door super car and should be maintained and treated as such. It’s one well engineered machine and s great car in the right hands. Keep up the good work and I am jealous that I can’t drive that fast in my car here in USA!

I am not alone in loving this project! Well done Sreten! M5s are super rare here in Colombia and the prices are climbing in the US, especially for a 6-speed.

Great video as always. The white thing you found inside the shock boot looks like the remainder of a transit stop used when the car is new from the factory to stop it bouncing about to much in transit. Really bad that the technician who did the pre delivery work left it behind.

Sorry this comment took so long, I've had my 2005 E60 M5 since Feb 2015 as a daily, (short run) driver, with some Great trips to Scotland in between. The poor bugger had been hammered when I got it and over the last few years I have steadily replaced the parts that needed changing. It has been a very good car. Engine is phenomenal, (Let it heat up before pushing it, of course) I bought my Lifetime warranty throttle actuators from Jason too, an absolute gentleman to deal with. Your video's are very informative and I can now have a go at stopping the chirping (blower fan) from one of your previous videos :) Thank you.

That scraping old foam is probably the most painful unrewarding work know to man. They make a scraper with a razor blade that skims just above the surface of the paint and if you are careful it doesn't scratch the paint. The windscreen installation guys have them, just much larger ones but they also use a small one for quarter glass, that's the one you need. It makes light work of the bulk of the job.

Brother, you are AMAZING!!! You remind me of the early 80's when i was in the US Army south of Mainz (Dexheim). I knew a couple amazing mechanics and 'gear heads' between Dex and Frankfurt. They always kept me fed with amazing Euro cars and kept them up to speed for me (an older 280 SE coupe, an early 5 series, and then an beautiful 928. I still miss Germany for the pure love of autos and the love of mechanical GREATNESS. THAT is what you remind me of. I want to either import you to here in Florida, or export myself back to Deutchland!

Sreten, I stumbled across this series thinking it would be some amateur trying to fix the E60 M5 V10 on a shoestring budget. I couldn't have been more wrong! The quality of your work is exceptional and love your sense of humour. It must take you ages to edit these videos so professionally but it makes all the difference - thank you. Can't wait to see the Alpina finished next and maxing out on the Autobahn. Best channel on KZbin.

This V10 really is an economic engine. Having done more miles, the fuel level at 1.03.28 is higher compared to the level at 1.03.06....Great video!

Agree 100% with your comments about sunroofs. They offer less headroom (especially important if you need to wear a helmet); they require maintenance to replace to rubber & felt seal; the roof looks better without; they can break in a hailstorm; they add weight; and mine is never used.
