The AAV on a lot of these contracts in what you'd consider big market teams is a lot lower than the Orioles, which makes me feel better about the Orioles being not cheap. That being said, I believe the elder Angelos signed off on (or advocated for that deal over Machado) the Chris Davis deal shortly before he became incapacitated, and the son hasn't spent any money since we were tanking. Last year our GM said we'd increase payroll significantly and then we didn't, so the son, while meddling slightly less in affairs than his father, might be unwilling to extend anyone a la John Fisher.
