In 2014 I took a cruise of the Caribbean and was informed a week after I got home that there was a norovirus outbreak on the ship lol fortunately, I never got it, but that kind of soured my enthusiasm for cruise ships. The only way I'll get on another one is if it's going to Cuba, since an actual trip to Cuba is stupidly complicated due to the idiotic embargo. I did it once and the actual getting-there was a headache.

Thankfully we can get a cure for this soon! I've had gastroenteritis since Monday and it's honestly one of the WORST feelings a human being can experience in my opinion. I puked 2-3 times a day, had diarrhea, and chills for 3 days straight, and I lost 5 pounds from all of this. It's worse when it happens in school as well because I had to stay in the nurse's office for most of the day until my dad picked me up. It's truly an emotional and stressful burden on your mental and physical health. It's a really scary thing to experience, and I even had a emotional breakdown and said to my parents crying how I hate feeling like this and how I feel like this pain will never go away 😔 But currently I am on anti-vomiting and anti-diarrheal medications, sticking to the BRAT diet, and drinking plenty of water and gatorade! I don't feel nearly as ill as I did before :) So if you're reading this and experienced/are experiencing the same thing as me, you'll get through this! Stomach flus don't last forever, it'll be ok 💖🌌

A year ago I had one of the worst stomach virus incidents in my entire life. It happened while I was heading home in a snowstorm and it’s enough to make a man cry. I had to be hospitalized or I would’ve died from dehydration. I can’t recall how many times I threw up and had diarrhea on the side of the road while shivering in below freezing temperatures. I actually lost a few pounds after my illness. The foods I ate at my grandparents before this, I still get nauseous trying to eat them since my body associates them with the virus. I never wanna experience that ever again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: I did not think I would get this much feedback, so I'll go into the full story. This was December 1st of 2019 in the middle of winter. I was with my family in New York, and we live about eight to nine hours away in Ohio. I was fine this morning, had breakfast, and even took a nap while my father drove. The first signs something were bad was when I had to take a stop at a restaurant place still very in the morning to take a massive dump. After that, a few hours went by with nothing special. Sometime at eight or nine in the morning, we had to stop at a gas station since I was feeling nauseous. I thought it was because of car sickness at the time, so I just bought some nausea medicine and decided to drive some. At around ten, a huge storm came in with below freezing rain, causing the road to become slippery. We were on backroads at the time atop hilly area, so I eventually stopped to let my father drive in case something bad happened. During the time my father drove, my condition gradually deteriorated. I thought it was because of the hilly roads, but I grew increasingly nauseous to the point of severe anxiety. By the time we finally escaped the backroads and reached a highway, my eyes were bloodshot and I was using all my willpower to not throw up. I stopped at a pharmacy and they took my blood pressure, which was insanely high. I was on a medicine which raised blood pressure, but not this high. I think it was like 155/85 if my memory is correct. I thought this was because of stress and that everything would improve since we're on straight roads. The situation rapidly deteriorated after this point. Snow and freezing temperatures slowed down highway traffic. I remained nauseous and ended up crapping myself on the road, creating a mess. I had to stop at a gas station with more diarrhea, and ended up throwing up for the first time. After that, I began a consistent cycle of having to stop on the side of the highway, having liquid black diarrhea and vomit every ten minutes or so. My hands were turning purple and I was shivering constantly from the temperatures. All attempts to drink liquid were fruitless. My mental state deteriorated after so many cycles of this, to the point I was on the verge of crying for mercy. I would rather bang my head against the wall at this point. My diarrhea's got even worse, to the point I was literally spraying huge amounts every stop. I tried ginger ale and liquids but this did not stop it. My family decided to go to a nearby hospital. On the way I ended up spraying diarrhea onto the side of someone's house in a neighborhood since I could not hold it in. My face was full of pins and needles, and my jaw muscles were locking up at this point. When I got to the hospital, they put me in a wheelchair and hooked me up to IV. I was so dehydrated that I fell into a drunk-like state for quite a while. After that, I developed a fever and chills. After the incident, I figured out that I got the virus because I had attended a festival the night prior and not my grandparent's foods. Regardless, I still get nauseous whenever I eat some foods my grandparents made the night before. Yeah, I never wanna go through that ever again.

I've never had to be hospitalized for things like this, but I definitely empathize with the whole conditioning thing. When I was about 10 or so years old, I had one of those big "black and white" cookies from a local bakery. (The ones with half chocolate icing, half vanilla.) That night, I was in so much pain that I was in the fetal position. I was literally crawling to and from the bathroom because I couldn't walk. At the time... well, I don't want to get into TMI territory, but my mom suspected I had other, less serious reasons for the stomach pain, so she didn't think much of it. I was better the next day, and we didn't know what had happened, until later that day. My mom came to pick me up from school, and she was in extreme pain, the same kind of stomach pain I'd had the night before. Earlier in the day, she'd had the leftover half of the cookie that I hadn't finished. That's when we knew it had been food poisoning of some kind. It took me about 10 years -- I'm not even exaggerating in the slightest -- to even consider eating another black and white cookie without instinctively cringing at the thought. Conditioning from extreme pain is a powerful thing. (To anyone wondering: yes, I can eat those cookies now. The thing about conditioning is that it can be extinguished if you expose yourself to the stimulus enough without any negative results. So once I brought myself to eat one of those cookies and nothing bad happened, I was able to eat them in peace forevermore, thenceforth, etc. etc.)

I was terribly frightened of throwing up and my father yelled at us when we became sick with the stomach flu because he was terrified of it. Therefore, every year when January approached I was so scared knowing I’d probably be sick and get in trouble for catching the stomach flu. My yearly stomach bug stopped around age 17 and I’m so happy I can be sick (which is not as often now) and not be throwing up while being yelled at.

One of them, rotateq, came out in 2006 and is only given to infants. Sadly I was already too old to get it by the time it was developed :( Rotarix then came out in 2008 and is also only given to infants

@@a3kChianie12 You're completely right. These vaccines were developed to save the lives of infants who contracted rotavirus. Our son was among the first in our country who got the vaccine in 2007, it was administered orally. He was born during a time when lots of infants had been experiencing serious rotavirus infections, which prompted the health authorities to recommend all infants be vaccinated. I think nowadays it's quite common to administer this vaccine to all infants, but I'm not 100% sure. While it would be nice to be protected against this nasty stomach bug, it poses no real threat to a healthy adult.

The rotavirus vaccine is a scheduled infant vaccination in most countries. only licensed for infants up to 24 weeks of age. The standard schedule is to give the first dose at age 8 weeks, and the second dose at 12 weeks. Older children have very often already had a rotavirus infection, so there is no point in vaccinating them as infection produces lasting immunity. The rotavirus vaccination is only suitable for young babies. The first dose cannot be given any later than 15 weeks and the second dose no later than 24 weeks as the chance of adverse reaction increases with age. Babies can only have the second dose if they had their first dose before 15 weeks. Norovirus (cruise ship bug/winter vomiting disease) is a different virus that mainly infects adults, infection with norovirus does not produce lasting immunity. In one study test subjects(medical students) were found to be able to be reinfected with the same strain after only three months. I hate it when people call these infections "Stomach Flu" as neither is caused by an influenza virus. Norovirus and Rotavirus are not related to each other and have significant structural differences.

this is my worst physical fear, losing complete control over my digestive tract and just being handed over to the disease until it's out of your body finally. my sister likely has it rn, i haven't been this anxious about something in a long time. i don't wanna eat anything that's been in the house cause i'm scared it's contaminated. i might honestly just fast for a day or two, everything better than getting stomach flu. then again, if i get it anyway after fasting it'll only be worse

I remember having a stomach bug in the 5th grade I was eating leftover pizza from lunch at school I brought it home to eat and I literally puked my Guts out in my shower and I thought I was done. I couldn’t barely even get out of the shower I was throwing up everything nonstop. I was so dehydrated from puking up everything I ate. That was a bad day I’ve never had.

HI currently have it. I've been sitting in the bath for hours and at this point is the only thing that makes me feel okay. I kept puking up my medication (for upset stomach and diarrhea). So hopefully now it should settle and actually help, somewhat.

If I remember correctly, a cytokine storm is like the whole immune system throwing everything at a problem. It sounds like this is only manipulating two types of cytokines.

To clarify for anyone else who may have wondered the same thing, what makes this majorly different from a cytokine storm is that in the case of the storm, the body's own mechanisms are ramping up cytokine production and doesn't slow down for quite a while. This therapy induces a measured temporary increase in theses specific cytokines that doesn't suffer from the same feedback loop problems.

I've had to be taken by ambulance to the ER because of diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Today, I had to accompany my LTR to the Emergency room for Acetes. While we were there, waiting for thr doctor to treat him, I myself, got so sick with Vomiting and Nausea. I didn't want to register as a patient and have a $1.000 and told the nurse this, as I figured this will blow over by tomorrow. Thry were kind enough to bring me Sprite,which helped a little. After the visit to the hospital, we stopped for remedies my grandmother used to use: crackers, cereal, soup but what really helped was black licorice, and gingerbread. These worked really fast, especially the black licorice

Србомбоница i was on zofran. I only got better after day 9 when i started antibiotics. Zofran can constipate you but it does take away the nausea
