This shows how well she wrote the entire story. And you do a fantastic job of showing all of us this 😀

Whilst I acknowledge the good points you have made, let me cover some over which I feel you have either skated or ignored completely. Your statement that Draco arrived at Hogwarts expecting to be number one is interesting. Hogwarts, therefore, should have proven a correcting ground but did not - at least not for Draco Malfoy. Nothing he did appeared to have consequences, even when he harmed and/or injured others. In Chamber of Secrets, we have Draco interacting with Harry and ron while they are disguised as Crabbe and Goyle. He is laughing about the furore the opening of the chamber is causing and actually wishes that should a death occur this time, it be Hermione Granger who has done nothing more offensive than beat him at exams. In Prisoner of Azkerban, which you ignore, there is his campaign to rid the school of Hagrid. Granted, the man's inexperience as a teacher had him failing to check that everyone knew his safety message regarding the hippogriffs, but Draco never takes responsibility for any of his actions and is never checked by staff, except the occasional tweak from McGonagall. Any wonder rule-loving Hermione becomes angry enough to slap his face. The only time any adult at Hogwarts is seen to check his behaviour is when the impostor Mooddy transfigures him into a ferret during Goblet of Fire. Each time he abuses and bullies anyone, they come off worse and he never suffers the consequences of his actions. For instance, when he and Harry dual and Goyle and Hermione suffer injuiries, only Harry and Ron are punished. In Order of the Phoenix, which you also ignore, he is responsible for the chain of events which lead to Harry's life ban from quidditch. He composes the taunt 'Weasley is our King" and he works Harry and the Weasley twins until they finally snap. Leaving aside the appalling lack of attention by the teachers who were there at the time and who could have intervened earlier, this behaviour also goes unpunished. Also, note his eager attention in Umbridge's office when it looks as though she is working herself up to cruciating Harry. in Half Blood Prince, on which you seem to concentrate, his equally bigoted mother again fails to check his behaviour when he notices the Trio in Madam Malkin's. He then demonstrates a new low on the Hogwarts train when he continues to hurt Harry after he has rendered him defenceless. No one seems to have taught him that this is nothing short of thuggery. Yet it is only Harry who suffers the consequences of his behaviour. And while it is all too easy to pity the poor little rich boy who has suddenly realised that not all difficulties can be passed off to parents or servants, he remains too wrapped up in his own ego to accept help from his supposed favourite teacher whom he now seems to regard as such an enemy that he advises him to break the unbreakable vow that Snape has made to protect him. He must know what that would mean for Snape, yet he still says it. He only escapes being a double murderer (Katie Bell and Ron Weasley) by pure luck and his behaviour atop the Astronomy Tower speak to me more of cowardice and lack of conviction than any moral compass at all. He only fails to out Harry and Hermione at the Manor in Deathly Hallows because he has been used as a torture instrument by Voldemort and witnessed the execution of Charity Berbidge. Even after they twice save his life at the Battle of Hogwarts, the Trio still catches him trying to save his own skin by telling Death Eaters he is one of them. We see the Malfoys at a loss during the celebration over Voldemort's final demise because they have demonstrated throughout the series that they are that most dangerous of human being: those whose convictions only extend to their own safety and wellbeing; who have, in fact, no side but their own. Such people are to be avoided at all costs.

Unnecessary, Draco like his father was a jackass regardless of any seeming redemption to save his own a$$.🤔

If we can forgive Snape, a grown man who willingly chose to turn to the dark and only switched sides because of Lilly and not even caring if Harry and James lived, then decidingly treating Harry like shit from day one at Hogwarts, being so horrible to Neville to the point that his bloody boggart was Snape etc then we damn well can forgive Draco Malfoy. He was a child and when push came to shove he struggled with his actions in book 6 the entire year and in book 7 he did not identify Harry despite knowing it was him. He even tried to not identify Hermione aswell, which sadly his dad and aunt clearly could identify for themselves. While he never ended up getting the heroic redemption, he absolutly is deserving of forgivness. Hell, even Harry realised Draco didn't have it in him and confronted him with it in the room of requirement.

Thank You. As someone who was raised by a supremacist, I really relate to draco more than anyone else. Especially because he grew and understood that the way he was being taught was wrong.

That was really interesting. I avidly read all of the books, but have only ever seen the first film. I'm now looking forward to the long winter nights when I can immerse myself in watching the films and I will, I'm sure, enjoy them all the more for listening to your analyses. Thank you.

Draco was just trying to live up to his father’s expectations. He was a misguided child. He felt threatened by Harry ( the actual chosen one) whilst Draco was groomed thinking HE was a chosen one.

Understanding how someone turned out the way they did does not mean forgiving them. I understand how my cousin became the bitch she is but i will never forgive her for the rift she deliberately created between my mother and me just because we wouldn't buy the usual expensive luxury brand things shes used to from her parents.
