Thanks for the video. I have exactly the same problem on an identical early model Evoke 1. I have stumbled on a solution. If I switch the radio on I get the blank display as you do. I leave it switched on for a few minutes, then switch off for about ten seconds; then switch on and I get DAB reception! I have no idea why this works, but it does. Good luck to anyone else with this problem.

I looked at this with interest. I have an Evoke D4.. I have no visual display at all. As you say a possible chip corruption. I had noticed that the radio can get into a bit of a twist if you use the sleep function. But unfortunately without a display it is seemingly not possible to reboot the firmware. The fact the radio is not repairable is such a waste. Pure radio owners, Imagination Technologies, was an excellent UK company until it was sold to a Chinese business. It has now had all of the good parts (which were expensive) stripped out of it and I would never buy a Pure again. I would urge people to look at Roberts as an alternative. I am not connected with the industry, just an avid radio listener.

I also have an Evoke D4 which had no display. The internal design of the D4 differs from the Evoke 1, however the approach to replace the LCD is similar to that demonstrated here. It also has two hidden nuts on the volume and select knobs that need removing in order to access the LCD screen. Thank you for this video as it helped me discover these hidden nuts so I could undo them.

I love these radios and have a couple of SD card Evoke 3's complete with remotes that I bought from Ebay. They are well built with loveiy tone. A couple annoying drawbacks with Evokes however are their rather dull displays and floppy aerials.

It would certainly be interesting to try replacing the LCD module. They're commodity parts and quite cheap so should be possible to get an exact replacement. And if that doesn't work you've got 2 LCD modules to use in Arduino projects!

A fine effort anyway . The processer may have failed or there could be a fault in the display module , the control address lines between the two items will not function correctly hence the whole thing gets stuck in a weird stalled mode.

Really like the video. Have been trying the same with a SONUS 1 but it has no signs of life at all. However, the amp board works when I put a signal at the input. I agree that the radio is not worth the time it might take to mend but if you have any ideas on fault finding the tuner board please put them on-line and I would try it just for the challenge.

Was the Chip a CHORUS FS1010G-A? as my PURE SONUS 1-xt has failed and I have found this chip cracked. It must get quite hot and eventully crack over the years with the heat. Should have a heat sink on it really.

I have PURE Talk Sport Radio that I can't get to tune from talk sport. It charges fine, the screen lights, All buttons work but not the station button. Ay suggestions?.

I have one that works fine until you turn the volume up to about a quarter volume then heavily vibrates or drones so turn it off and turn volume back down and powers on ok. So can only listen at very low volume, any ideas? thanks.

I have several Evoke 3's. My original had quite a bit of portable use and I replaced an aerial but I have a scratched speaker grill. I have noticed that one I got off Ebay had a darker display to the older one as though there is a backlight bulb or two gone inside? But if it is a 'unit' then hard to repair this backlight? I was tempted to delve inside and repair the bulbs if there are any? Great shame as the radio itself is superb as you can record programmes at will. [Most people I have found have to rely on TV internet sources for this which is less portable].

Thank you for your comment, they are an integrated module with led backlighting so you will most likely have to replace the entire display unit as one unfortunately

@@ElectronicStuff I'm definitely buying one because of this video.. Looks really well built the size of the driver looks like it delivers good bassy sound... The heat sink for the op amp looks good... First time I seen this radio Hopefully you don't give up on it.. Hopefully its just a hard to see bad solder joint and you get it working again.. This radio was a total disappointment from day 1. Sound is very muffled. My old FM radio’s sound much more lively given a good signal.
