Covering the tractor that sat in a mud pond for 5 months with a tarp to protect it from the rain is actually hilarious.

It had been partially dissembled & oiled between the removal from the pond & the video day.

When the objective is to get the water out and the engine is opened up to let everything dry, it doesn't make sense to leave it uncovered so rain and debris can get in there.

I have been successful in many industrial engines with higher nickel alloys over automotive scrap. Last one was a Buda that sat full of water for 7 years. Cost a sleeve head gasket and 1 piston ring. The oils were more than the parts to get it to run.

Who runs the backhoe into the pond and goes "oh well, I'll get to that eventually"

It was sunken in a pond in December, it was frozen in place for a while.

Around here the fine for stuff with a motor through the ice is like 1k a day. After 2 weeks the state will have it removed for you at your cost

@@JeffreyMiller-cy9zushit where I am, it's pulled out almost immediately if possible, and you get the bill if you own it. They don't give the chance to let it sit down there most times

My friend had a Baja bug here in Ky when we were teens. He was driving in a field drunk coming home one night and ran into thin ice over muck that was covered in snow. Sunk up to the floor pans. Walked home and slept it off. Overnight the temp dropped and that muck froze as solid as concrete for 2 months. We didn’t get it out til spring.

Should add one of them hose snorkels with a bobber on the end for next time

Honestly that sounds smart. I've never heard of that before, putting a bobber on 😂 flexible intake, that could work

How does that fire extinguisher work there? Full of oil, you hook it into an oil gallery where the oil pressure sender normally resides, and prime the oilling circuits of the engine?
@HOWEES
@HOWEES Ай бұрын
Yes & it works very well, We were going to build one from a propane tank, then thought of a scuba tank, after that the light went on, as a fire extinguisher has the fittings in the correct location already.

Likely to do some more next week, but we are planning to stop once we have the engine running again, unless it gets brought to our shop, if that happens it would be a few months before time is available to make other repairs. If it stays home Kong will probably work on it next spring, winter is soon to be here.

that was 1997, I priced just the engine in 2005 for a project & Cummins wanted $21,000, I bought a gray market Cummins 4bt by getting a generator for $12,000. sometimes market forces make it cheaper to buy complete machines rather than parts.

How do the pins for the loader arms come out?
@HOWEES
@HOWEES Ай бұрын
The one that is currently missing is a long shaft for both sides, it broke when the machine dropped through the ice, plan is to make a new one once it is known that all else is OK.
