Working on an awesome pool surround and it rains our fresh concrete. What did we do? Is this concrete completely ruined?

Most of the guys their age out there are living in their Mom and Dad's basement playing video games all day. This country needs more workers like your guys, their work ethic they have is inspiring, they must be leading by your example. Keep up the excellent work and stay safe. Ten thumbs up!!

Great job rescuing that pour from the rain! Looks like y'all do a pretty job overall from my perspective. Only thing I'm not really a fan of is the brush work. I would prefer to have all the brush marks going in the same direction but I'm pretty sure that it's just me being a perfectionist and the reason you guys do it that way is to reduce risk and to save time.

The concrete crew for my house project cut a ditch out from the foundation so it would drain in case of rain before the pour. It worked because we had a 3 inch rain the day after plastic was put in and it all drained out. Lifted the edges of the plastic and the soil underneath was dry. Poured the day after rain... then it rained day after the pour. Zero cracks 1.5 years later. (still in construction. Moving at the speed of cash I can put into it.)
@bondobuilt386 Жыл бұрын
Awesome we do that also on foundations. You will be glad when you are done with no mortgage. I did the same thing.

weather like that is gone for us for the year. for the past week its been high of 50's with lows of high 30's low 40's and im already missing warm days. where im at, we wont have nice 75-80 degree weather until next year. we're getting ready for winter where we get 100+ inches with temps of -40 to 20 degrees. last year in one day we got 26 inches in 24hrs. that was a season ender. job looks great !! when we use our buggy and have to keep the splashing down, we hang a tarp off the end so when the mud comes out, it hits the tarp. you have to experiment with how far to hang it down for your need but it does work good for us.

I have a concern; why don't you put an expansion joint between the house and the slab? I also didn't see any rebar anchors between the house foundation and the pad ; can you explain why this step was avoided?
@bondobuilt386 Жыл бұрын
I find when pouring up against a house like this that the concrete will shrink away about 1/8 of an inch. Then a nice thin bead of silicone caulk seals it up if water is an issue. This has a real good pitch away from house. The expansion leaves a big spot that ants like to crawl into and the tar based fiber board expansion that you see at the box stores will deteriorate in time. However if this was a split face block wall on the house I would use a foam expansion joint and apply it to the broken face block with a spray adhesive. So if the house is rough like splits or stone or brick use it but a smooth block I don't also DO NOT bar into your foundation if you live where it freezes and thaws during winter. The outside concrete needs to be able to rise when it freezes and it will tear the block walll apart. Hope this helps.

Couple of concerns from an old Jack of all Trades, Master of Two! Underpinning into the existing concrete around the pool, so the new concrete doesn’t settle in next to the original concrete and leave a trip point next to the pool. You drill a hole into the side of existing slab and epoxy a #3 rebar pin into existing slab and leave 6” of rebar sticking out for the new concrete to cover. I also didn’t see adobes holding up your rebar and your guys just pulled it up to embed it into the concrete which is ok until the guy doing the screed and finishing walked on it and pushed it back down!!! Also I didn’t see anyone using the concrete vibrator to mix and remove air from the pour, which can cause weak spots in the slab!!!
