Hey mark that was great I haven’t never seen it done with a pin like that I have welded a couple blocks I drill the end then weld through the center and have had luck but beat your way is better thanks a lot sir

Thanks. I don't know about better, I weld them up to sometimes exactly like you described you do it. sometimes I braze them to. I pined this one up because of where the crack is. In part 2 your gonna see me screw up on the other crack and I have to fix it ...and it's a crack I could have brazed up easier than pinning lol. I wish I would have shown how to do that instead of the 4hrs it took me to fix my screw up 🤣! Take care brother!

To the hater’s that are going to mouth this repair it works because I know first hand a bunch of dirt circle track engines that were repaired to run as claimer engines and not only were a lot repaired on the outside but along the inside of the lifter valley. The pin repair works but many of the claimer engines that I personally helped sponsor to build after all of the if we can’t beat y’all we will claim your engines were repaired with heat and JB Weld to fix the cracks. Let’s just say after the second .080 over patched 350’s were claimed that stopped all that nonsense claiming BS. Great work as always Mark. You still should do a head porting video especially blending the bowl areas like was very common back in the old dirt track hot stock class. I sure miss those 180° crossover sound.

Thanks Mark I learned something.

I've welded up a dozen or more engine blocks...several diesel engine blocks also...

Yeah I weld them up all the time as well, This one I used tapered repair pins because of where it was. But nothing wrong with welding.

I gotta 502 GEN VI # 10237300. It's cracked on the driver side front core plug, all the way through at the freeze plug. There are 2 short cracks coming out of the freeze plug that V out and go around the motor mount boss. Close to the motor mount boss but appears mostly on the freeze plug boss. Locknstitch rough quoted me $400 for a kit (I have to measure thickness and get back to them). Question is do you think there'd be any problems (if I did it right)? I'm doing a "budget" higher effort pump gas tunnel ram na build, 598 if it allows, 890hp+ 24° or perhaps 985hp+ 18°. Trying to get the most out of a stock block. Know it's hard without seeing pictures...

I think you could do it with regular repair pins or even silver seal cfk-100 kit. they also have the "Seal Lock" system that works awesome to. shop.silver-seal.com. Can you email me a picture of the crack and I can point you in the right direction. but I'm sure it can be fixed. Mark@marksracingengines.com And yes I don't think you would have any problems with lock -n- stitch..it's pretty easy to do. BTW we have a GEN VI 454 stock block I Bored to a 468 ( but good internals) and we regularly spray a 150 kit on the hit and a 350 on the second stage with "knock on wood" no issues. it had a crack in the side of it as well and I fixed it with silver seals system. so I think you'll be fine either way you decide fix it.

Freeze plugs don't work because they aren't freeze plugs--they're core plugs. They plug holes used during the block casting process. I'm sure you know that, and it's nice to imagine them serving a second purpose, but we all know better. Run garden hose water as coolant; save now pay later.

yep your exactly right, and if the garden hose coolant doesn't freeze and crack the block...it will rust steel core plugs out to pissing pin holes pretty quick. Hey thanks for watching and the comment!
