Absolutely loved this. Vids like this affirm the conviction that there's just something special about rides that aren't controlled by data-driven performance i.e. speed, aerodynamics, watts per kilo, FTP etc. Too often the data hype dominates cycling content and it's nice to take a mental break from it all and just watch Si and Hank riding the modern equivalent of pack mules and laughing themselves silly on the trails. Well done, Team Glampzors, this was a real joy to watch.

Glad to see someone like Tern finally making a bike like this. It's sort of a mash-up of two bikes I own, a Quietkat Jeep and DIY "bike tractor" I built on a 1996 Gary Fisher Supercalibre frame with dual hub motors and dual batteries, plus a GSD. $8,999 for the upper spec model isn't too bad considering the dual batteries and Rohloff. For my personally it's not worth it because I have the Quietkat and don't have kids. The Quietkat and my DIY bike are considerably more powerful and have more torque as well, but having gone on numerous trail rides on, believe it or not a Riese & Muller Homage, I can say that despite only being 250W nominal, the Bosch Performance Line is one of the most capable bikes in off-road touring conditions. Combined with a high-range transmission in turbo mode, it eats hills alive, it's honestly really impressive what they've achieved with that drive system. I built that DIY bike, and bought that Quietkat, which is considered a "hunting bike" because no one else made anything like these two bikes, and therefore didn't really meet my own needs. So I'm glad to see Tern making a bike for crazy people like me who like doing XC rides on e-bikes and hauling 300 pounds of cargo in city riding. One criticism I would level is the complete lack of suspension. Although the fatties properly aired down provide a surprising amount of suspension just from the balloon action of the tires, one some of those loose over hardpack conditions you were in, it will probably still tend to bounce your around a bit.
