I've been using FSD almost every time I get in the car during this latest trial and used it round trip between Baltimore & NYC last week - no issues. There are some funky decisions that FSD makes every now and then but I find it relaxing to use while driving. It's not perfect but it's damn impressive.

Absolutely. Definitely not perfect, but it is nice to relax a bit on long drives
@JosephHowes20032 күн бұрын
That's my take. I don't get the people that insist it should be perfect before it's released to the perfect. It's extremely useful even if I have to take over occasionally and they couldn't have made it perfect in a reasonable timeframe without people using it.

well, to the following distance between the tesla and the car in the front, just some numbers in case of an average human being, and fsd if you have to emergency brake (with new tires): if you drive at 62mph: - the distance traveled during reaction time is 98-ish feet, but cos its Tesla FSD the reaction time is reduced to around 28-ish feet - in case of dry and good grip surface, its 175-ish feet of braking distance. -added together 28+175= 203 feet (12 Model X put together in a row or) if it would be a human driving: 98+175= 273 feet (16 Model X put together in a row or) thus the cars spacing looks fine to me, if you driven around 62mph. ( if the tires are worn down to 1/8 inch, the braking travel distance doubles) what i try to say here, that many people dont drive in a speed appropriate way when it comes to following distances, they under estimate the law of physics..
@genelane22432 күн бұрын
So true about people not using safe following distances. Riding with friends recently, it was dark and roads were variably wet. I finally told the driver to back off to a safer distance because I was getting terrified.

I'm on 12.5.6.3 as well. The V12.5.xx versions are the first versions I'm actually sort of comfortable using without disengaging them every 5 minutes. I'm on the free trial and *might* actually subscribe going forward. I'll definitely try V13 releases when those come out. The ability to park/unpark, and do in and out of the garage from beginning to finish will be huge. FSD still has to execute NO TURN ON RED and school zones, though. 'Not sure if we will get that in V13.

@@thesimplesarah Specifically, where the new stretch of highway starts coming off of the 75 north exit going towards preston if I remember correctly. If I had to take a guess the FSD system isn't completely mapped for this new highway yet and when I used FSD there it wasn't always sure where the lines on the road were so it kept going into people's lane.

I moved to Virginia around 10 months ago, before that lived in Legacy Village in Plano by the pond. The problem FSD had with Plano roads, was where there are two left turn lanes and the traffic lights tell you to go on orange. Now, that is incredibly difficult for a human too, especially if you have the big-ass lifted pickups that are so common, and if they are waiting in the oncoming left turn lane too. But FSD almost killed me once in the aggressive mode.

_Ford's Bluecruise is sill years ahead of Tesla's FSD._ Seriously? Ford's Bluecruise that's limited to 80 MPH, while FSD operates to 85 MPH? The same BlueCruise that has had three fatalities in 244 *million miles,* while FSD has had two fatalities in 1.3 *billion* miles-which if I've done the math right is eight times the fatal accident rate of FSD, in spite of operating only on the safest roads, while FSD operates on all roads, including the most dangerous? That Ford BlueCruise? Really? I'd love to hear your reasoning on this claim!

@@PeterparkerSlaps _he’s just trolling_ Definitely! But I still like to get the facts out there, for others to see. For example, I actually didn't know until I did the calculation that Ford BlueCruise has *eight times* the fatal accident rate per mile of Teslas with FSD engaged!
@carensimon42362 күн бұрын
I have this FSD version. It is awesome. But these girls were not responsible. FSD drives great in normal situations, but doesn't handle edge cases. Tesla tells you to keep you hands on the wheel for a reason. 1/2 a second could be the diff between life and death. Looks like they are in the X, so they'll probably be fine, just kill some other poor dude. I can accept keeping hands close to the wheel...but driving with crossed arms at hi-way speeds, and with stuff in your hands - that's super dangerous. These folks are gonna ruin it for us all when they have a major accident.
@BigBen621Күн бұрын
_Tesla tells you to keep you hands on the wheel for a reason._ Actually, NHTSA says *not* to keep your hands on the wheel. What they found is that doing so led to inadvertent disengagements of FSD by grasping the wheel a little too tightly when FSD turned the wheel.
@carensimon4236Күн бұрын
@@BigBen621 That's nonsense. You can gently touch the wheel with one hand without disengaging. And its not about the actual touching. Its just science. By keeping hands empty and close to the wheel - you cut response time. When you are at highway speeds (as in the video), even a 1/2 second is 50 ft. That 1/4 second to drop the drink can the driver was holding is the difference between a crash, and preventing that crash by 25 ft.
@BigBen621Күн бұрын
@@carensimon4236 _You can gently touch the wheel with one hand without disengaging._ You *can,* but what NHTSA found is that many don't do so, and end up with inadvertent and dangerous disengagements as a result. If you don't like the message, take it up with NHTSA. There's another issue, as well. According to NHTSA statistics, human drivers have more than 30 times as many crashes per mile as Teslas with FSD engaged. As such, any effort to take control to avoid some perceived danger is far more likely to exacerbate the situation than to improve it. The safest approach is to allow FSD to work out the situation without interfering-unless, of course, FSD disengages itself, in which case you will of course have to take over manual driving.
@carensimon423613 сағат бұрын
@@BigBen621 i looked for this NHTSA recommendation - and don't find it. And why would Tesla keep telling (on screen) to hold the wheel, against NHTSA recommendations? Please provide a reference to your claim.
@BigBen62112 сағат бұрын
@@carensimon4236 Fair enough. It's in a PDF named Additional Information Regarding EA22002 on the NHTSA site, which you can search for. Upon review, it doesn't actually recommend not holding the wheel; but it describes many cases where doing so led to inadvertent disengagement and subsequent crashes. Also, contrary to my comment, this referred to Autopilot, not FSD. But the principle is the same; it's apparently easy to over-torque the wheel when holding it, leading to inadvertent disengagement, and, in the case of Autopilot, numerous crashes. Here's the text: "Inadvertent Override: 55 crashes were identified where Autopilot was in use, but it appeared that the driver may have inadvertently or unknowingly deactivated Autosteer while TACC remained engaged. This happened either through steering inputs that exceeded the manual override threshold, resulting in the vehicle drifting out of its lane, or through enough intermittent steering input to change the heading, generally resulting in a single vehicle roadway departure crash as the first harmful event. Crash factors indicate that driver disengagement, coupled with the Autopilot system design, is the key contributor to these crashes. Almost all the incidents (43) were involved in a crash less than 5 seconds after Autopilot was overridden by a steering torque and the vehicle lost lane centering and departed the travel lane."
