If people acknowledge acts 6 as the beginning of the deaconate and they chose all men, how does that support women deacons? Also, most Bible translations translate the passage as wives but people also revert to what it may be translated as women, which I have never seen yet. If it is not an office, why do you need qualification?

Husband to one wife. Husband to one woman. Deacon to one wife. Deacon to one woman Therefore, the wife or any woman cannot qualify to be a deacon simply because she is not a husband.

Can women just sit down and know their role? I’m a woman, and I’m good with what the Bible teaches! Why is it so hard?

I don't find the word "deaconess" in my Bible. I can find this, "Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife....." I am wondering how a woman can be the "husband of one wife"?

Are you saying that only married men with children can qualify for the office of deacon? Would that mean that the Apostle Paul is disqualified from such an office?
@hardcoreveritas56486 ай бұрын
@@junomacguff3442 Yes. Children were not mentioned. Paul was married as all Pharisees were.

@@hardcoreveritas5648 Paul wrote: "To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am" (1 Corinthians 7:8). Further, the qualifications for deacons laid out in 1 Timothy state: "He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive" (1 Timothy 3:4). Do you have a Scripture reference for your views?

Look harder. Romans 16:1-2 Look up the Greek for the word “Servant” some bibles also have a footnote related to that word which is “Deaconess”. Now, once you have done that. You will need to ask yourself what the true meaning of deacon really means. I believe the qualifications for a male deacon are laid out more strictly because of the headship all males are called to by God. God requires more from men. Plus I find it is of good reason the qualifications laid out by Peter to males is due to the often poor habits men find themselves into as younger and unmarried. They certainly do not hold to much of the same virtues as God fearing woman of the same age. 😂

What about Romans 16:1-2 “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea;” Look up the Greek for “servant” in that text.
@jeremiahharris5002Ай бұрын
I don’t think these “men” have a very good understanding of the office of Deacon. I think they equate this office as one of a Presbyter. Or a an office having spiritual authority. But I see the office of deacons to be designed as a means of dividing the work of the church to those who have exceptional administrative skills or talents in serving a purpose of the church’s daily needs such as maintenance, cleaning, care and hospitality. Finance, food distribution, giving to the poor, donating to ministries.
@rodshoppe4434Ай бұрын
The word deacon goes beyond "servant." You don't need a title to serve, now do you? The title deacon denotes a position of authority as well as service. Stop looking for a loophole because you don't have the guts to tell a woman her place.

DP, We are all servants in HIS Church, female and male, all are made in HIS Image. Phoebe was a faithful servant, regardless of Office or gender, all members are “servants”. However, the gender for Pastors/Bishops/Elders/Overseers and Deacons is male, this is stated in HIS Eternal, Unchanging Scriptures. Phoebe, had an unknown assignment, Paul didn’t reveal specifics, but it wasn’t the ministry assigned to the 7 (seven) Deacons, their only responsibility can not be shared, neither can it be usurped. The Office of Pastor and the Office of Deacon are separate, each having their responsibility to the Lord while serving in His Church. The Apostles didn’t give the responsibility of “the daily ministration” to the Pastors, nor to the congregation(s). The 7 Deacons in each local autonomous congregation have the responsibility to distribute the Lord’s money. Acts 4:34-47; 6:1-7 Acts 6:3 “this” business is singular Acts 6:4 the Apostles, which are ordained Gospel Ministers, like Pastors, are not to be involved with the money. DP, Blessings.

Deacons and Deaconesses are NOT spiritual offices but physical only, certainly deserving respect but not leadership roles, female nor male.

McArthur is wrong on this. While the word in 1 Tim 3:11 can be either women or wives the context is wives. - Wives or Women in verse 11 ✅Wives: Consistent with context. 1 Tim 3:2,12 🟥Women: Inconsistent with context - One set of deacon requirements ✅Wives: Yes. 1 Tim 3:11 is appropriate for the wives of deacons. 🟥Women: No. Women requirements are different from the men. - Women cannot have authority over a man 1 Tim 2:12 ✅ Wives: Deacons have authority. 🟥 Women: No. Or Deacons have no authority. Then why have them? Why have a test for authority (Managing your household)? - Requirements for the spouses of Elders and Deacons ✅ Wives: Yes 🟥Women: No. Ultimate Responsibility for Household ✅ Wives: Husband - Ephesians 5:22-24 🟥 Women: Shared Use of “Likewise” to introduce new group ✅Wives: Elders, Deacons, Wives of Elders and Deacons ✅ Women: Elders, Deacons, Women Deacons No Possessive Pronoun in verse 11 ✅ Wives: Refers to Wives of Deacons and Elders ✅ Women: Refers to Women Deacons Phoebe a servant or deacon ✅ Wives: Servant - consistent with 1 Timothy 2:12 🟥 Women: Deacon - contradicts 1 Timothy 2:12 Consistent with Paul’s culture (Acts 6 & Jesus disciples) ✅ Wives: Yes 🟥 Women: No Consistent with today’s culture 🟥 Wives: No ✅ Women: Yes In summary, if you take 1 Tim 3:11 to refer to wives, everything makes sense except it is contrary to our culture today. If you take 1 Tim 3:11 to refer to women you have a whole lot of problems you have to try to explain away. It is my position that these Scriptures are very clear and easily understood by anyone. They do not require special understanding of Greek and grammar to reach the conclusion that Paul intended, namely that elders and deacons are to be qualified men.

What chapter and verse tell us to have church buildings? Which chapter and verse tell us that Pastors are to lead the Church, perform weddings, funerals,and preach from a pulpit on a stage? Which chapter and verse tells us about the board of directors?

Wife or Women? Some translations that support the former: ESV, NKJV, KJV, and Tyndale. Some translations that support the latter: LSB, NASB, EHV, NIV, ASV, RV, and Wycliffe. These list are by no means exhaustive. There are many conservative scholars, who acknowledging that women should neither preach nor become elders, nevertheless hold opposing views on the issue of women deacons. This alone is sufficient to address the assertion of some that this is a settled issue. Indeed, the matter is settled for some in their own minds but by no means for all. (This is not a criticism but merely an observation.) The lists above indicate that to assert the vast majority of translations translate the word γυναῖκας (γυνή - woman;wife) as 'wives' is simply false. These lists also should be a warning not to assert that the context incontrovertably demands the translation of γυνή as 'wife'. Some further argue that the initial appointment of 'deacons' in Acts were all men. However, it ought to be noted that the office to which the men were appointed in Acts was not the office of 'deacon' as outlined in 1 Timothy though that function was similar. It is true that they were appointed to engage in activities of that office. In that capacity they dealt with the the problem of abandonment of the 'Hellenists' who were in need. The role to which these men were appointed extended beyond that. They were to assist, also, in spreading the word of God. To illustrate that point, Luke recounts the work of Stephen, one of those appointed, who was also in the forefront. He was engaged in preaching and teaching, and did so in a way that brought it to the attention of the authorities, including Saul (Paul). I've not committed in this post to one view or the other but merely attempted to lay out those facts which are necessary to observe in rder to form a right judgment. I thank all the parties in this video both for the presentation and learning displayed as well as the humble restraint exercised by all.
