Was insightful hearing from your experience, Nik! I believe this will be helpful for many Tesla owners in Singapore.

I would love it if the Singaporean Govt. would at least level the playing field when it comes to the COE for ICE vs EV. Why should those wanting better pay more? If Singapore wants to be greener faster then they should put support behind the better technology and make those who can afford ANY CAR make the wiser decision to buy an EV (notice I said an EV not a Tesla). T he monthly costs are very minimal and the difference in saving to recharge over refueling is a savings that over time will also improve and can go into something else for those who make the switch. Great video again Daren thanks for uploading and finding great guests!

why cant charging providers provide a seamless charging experience compared to Tesla? wonder what are their challenges

Good question! In my experience, SP runs a very reliable public charging network in Singapore.

Hey Darren, good video as usual! But I do have a question for you.. If the EV adoption rate were increase maybe up to 50% or more, will charging still be as available as it is right now to EV owners? Especially in HDBs where the chargers to be built are mostly AC and realistically how many chargers are even going to be in MSCP be it of HDBs and offices? I foresee that charging would be the biggest problem EV owners will face in the next 10 years. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Shawn. Norway and Shanghai would be good examples of 90% and 50% EV adoption. In those places, most buildings have a lot of AC/DC charging (homes, restaurants, malls, offices). In addition, some owners like Nik are using Tesla Superchargers for most of their charging. Tesla Supercharger and Destination Charging networks are one of the fastest growing and most reliable public charging networks on the world. I’ll be visit Shanghai in October to see what the future looks like, and hope to visit Norway again soon (had our honeymoon there many years ago). If you get a chance to visit other cities with higher EV adoption, will be good for you to speak with other EV owners firsthand.

@DarenYoong Hey Darren, thanks for the reply! How much Superchargers can tesla or other manufacturers realistically built? There are currently over 180 petrol stations in Singapore and say if all PS were to be converted into fast chargering stations with 6 stations per station and maybe 15 mins per car for charging, I believe we may face some sort of constraints for charging. Yes, malls and offices are starting to implement charging stations for employees or shoppers but it is rather impossible for them to convert 30% or more parking slots to charging slots which would then make parking quite scarce for people that are not charging. Love to hear your thoughts once again!

Having lived in Singapore for two years for work as a reasonably well paid professional, I couldn't get my head around the cost of owning a car in Singapore. Like most things though, if you lived in Singapore all of your life, I guess you'd just accept it.

I do not understand what is the reason behind charging more road tax for EV car than ICE car in Singapore. I thought the SG government is encouraging going Green .

Singapore should promote EV for greener country. Just my thought.

$100/mth and mileage is 70km/day? Petrol is $250/mth 55km/day....but Rd tax is $750+ for petrol and $2500+ for EV. Then is works out to be the same isn't it? Not to mention no need schedule in charging. Just drive in and out 10min done.
