You have to kill Runt to complete the storyline, so it's a failure (even if he manages to cheese the fight, Runt dies in the following cutscene, meaning Henry kills him regardless of what you do). It could still be an interesting video, though, much like this one is despite failing 6 minutes in.

There's always the Orthodox version. Can't even do body mods. (seriously, there is a cadre of Eastern Orthodox priests tackling the question of transhumanism right now.) I think Fr. Josiah Trenham has talked about it a bit.
@DarrylCross Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I didn't know that - but I suppose it is something for our time to wrestle with. Out of curiosity, are there any distinctions being made for things that are meant to restore functionality to the body or keep people alive (like Pacemakers and Advanced Prosthetics) as opposed to things that are meant to alter the functionality of the body (Like Augmentations and Modifications)?
@SteelWalrus Жыл бұрын
@@DarrylCross As far as I am aware, the line is kind of fuzzy and seems to depend on the specific orthodox tradition. Typically, though, it seems like they are accepting of prosthetics and other medical stuff, but reject things that fundamentally alter the body. Tatoos and piercings seem to be a gray area, and you'll even see some who don't much care for things like dying hair. That said, I don't think any but the most legalistic would call that a sin or evil. A lot of it stems from the orthodox view of the body being sacred and intrinsically interlinked with the soul, if I had to guess.
@lemax6865 Жыл бұрын
@@DarrylCross I don't know about all the various Orthodox Christian traditions, but there are *definitely* some religions that expect you to die rather than get life-saving treatment. If they won't let you alter your body to save your life, I doubt they'd let you alter your body to improve quality of life after a loss of function.

Yess, I was hoping for a while that you'd do this challenge with Cyberpunk! There is one ending that I think may have been really suited to this playthrough-- the ending where you let Johnny take your body. He ends up redeeming himself and promising to not be needlessly violent again, memorializing his dead friends, and encouraging a teenage guitar player named Steve to follow his passions. He even discourages him from smoking lol. However, the lead up to that ending involves Johnny blasting his way into 'saka tower, so it debatably would've broken a lot of rules.

From what I know saying the lord's name in vain isn't that literally saying it breaks the commandment, the commandment is to not USE the lord's name in vain, as in justify sinful or bad acts by saying that that's what the lord would have wanted, in my opinion just saying the lord's name isn't breaking the commandment even if you curse while doing so.

A nitpick, that you may have addressed elsewhere: Not committing adultery, is much broader Commandment than the breaking of marriage vows. I can understand wanting to avoid pointing out the broader implications of "adultery", and that it may not necessarily be important to the challenge, especially in CURRENT YEAR, but I felt the need to point it out, nonetheless.

I am genuinely curious as i have never really thought about it. But saying the lord's name in vain also includes uh their son? Im not really well versed in this regard but from what i remember from school, the ten commandments came from a time long before jesus would have been born, right? I mean it does make sense but i am still a little confused
@TheKatti5000 Жыл бұрын
It's because the Christians consider their god to be a trinity. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three aspects of the same deity. Basically, Jesus is a part of the Lord, therefore his name is also the Lord's name, and saying it as a curse breaks the commandment here.

Just a heads up, Fallout 3 is literally impossible to beat without killing. There are 2 quests that explicitly require killing and you cannot progress the game until they are dead. Those quests being the radroach in the Vault, and the Super mutants in project purity. The game will not let you progress the main plot without at least killing the radroach, as you don't have any companions.
@lemax6865 Жыл бұрын
The radroach is probably fair game, since it's a non-sapient animal. Heck, it's barely even sentient, being an insect. At worst it'd be breaking a bonus rule. The Super-mutants can probably be killed by your companions, so I'm not too worried. The Vault where your dad's being kept is a bigger problem... Exiting the simulation with the Red Invasion protocol kills everyone in the pods. Sure, they're barely even alive, but they are alive, and their death is a direct and known result of your actions. I don't remember whether they *all* die if you choose to follow professor Whackjob's instructions, but if you do, you have to kill at least one person in the sim, which kills them outside of it as well if memory serves.

Arguably correct, but these videos wouldn't be very long if he couldn't make any concessions. Furthermore, this isn't "Can you beat game x without violating traditional judeo-Christian morality", it's "Can you beat game x without breaking the 10 commandments". There's a LOT of ghastly immoral crap not covered by the commandments. If you want to call out this challenge as a failure, there's way more obvious stuff. You can't get past the prologue without murdering someone in a cutscene and saying the Lord's name in vain, so the run was failed before it even truly began.
@bosstoober8782 Жыл бұрын
@@lemax6865 I think it's fair to say cutscenes don't count. Also the ten commandments does include all Christian mortality. If you let someone else kill someone when you have the power to stop them, that's a violation of the 5th commandment
