A little tip for the L on keyboard thing (which I didn't even know lmao), CTRL plus the left or right arrow key will skip to the start of the next or previous video chapter respectively. This could make such an edit for skipping ahead like that easier in the future, as you don't need to make the skippable section a certain length to enable conviniently pressing L a few times. When I first played Darkest Dungeon 2, on my second run I got all the way the the first acts final boss. My team had great relationships and I was using the man at arms as both my tank and stress reliever. However as the final boss dragged on I misstepped and my characters began to boil over losing all the relationships they had. My characters began to die and in the end it was just the plague doctor facing against the final two shields. And if OTZ is reading this then I would like to say that you dragged me into Darkest Dungeon and you must take responsibility for my loss of sanity due to this game.

Darkest even when I'm not a high level player doing full darkness ruins, it's flat out my most, favorite game. Darkest 2 is not bad, in fact it's vary good, how ever it's not the detraction I wanted the game to go and by far I don't think of it as a true Darkest 2 but a darkest spin off like the pvp mode.

Darkest Dungeon was hated immensely in the early stages, heart attacks, corpses, "RNG", it got so much hate they had to add the options to turn features off. Nothing is different with this one. Basically all the hate comes from a lack of understanding of game mechanics, there's rng sure, but its not that big of a deal if you prepped and planned correctly, even if you didn't it's still not a large factor. Only thing I will say is enemy crits in the original one are very dumb, besides that everything else is pretty much perfect. This one is also a good game, though I haven't played it much, did a few runs and beat the the first chapter once when it came out. I'm just waiting for it to fully release since they do a lot of HEAVY changes (which is good!) and I'll just come back again when it's closer to release.

I want to like the game but oh my the devs dont want you to. In dd1 I could actually prepare, in this one though? Practically fucking never. I put dozens of hours into both the beta and the """""full""""" release (this game is no where near finished and I hate that people act like it is) the first game was hard but it felt like i atleast had a chance to fight back. In dd2 I feel like I legitimately have ZERO power over anything going on. I could have the perfect comp and all the trinkets I need and then in the course of a couple fights I end up with all of my party members getting hatred and watching as they all kill eachother through random backstabbing and stress barks meanwhile there is NOTHING I can do to help against this. They've absolutely just made the game straight up UNFAIR which is a funny thing to say about an rng game but its absolutely true in this case. They've made it so fucking difficult to even get anywhere in the game so they can say the game has a bunch of playtime. And then in the discord anytime someone actually suggests something worth while the entire discord shuts it down unless it needlessly makes the game harder than it is. The people on the discord think that its FINE for the game to quite literally throw hours of progress out of the window with this just outright DUMB relationship mechanic. They need to remove that from the game, as well as making getting new skills the worst grind possible. Most characters are complete garbage until you get there last skills, like hellion and vestal. There is so much wrong with the game that they need to fix. The fact they tout this as a finished game is a slap in the face.

DD1 and 2 never required grinding to beat them. Stygian Bloodmoon was capped at 100 weeks with 16 heroes dead. You don't really get to grind on the hardest difficulty settings, especially not in 0 light runs which have been done. Heroes take a couple weeks of high risk combat to level up and similar number of weeks to recover in the first game. DD2 foregoes some of this micromanagement and doesn't implement any systems which increase the risk. DD2 has way more rng compared to 1. Grinding can be fun when you are allowed to, even in the original if you trigger bloodmoon on accident it starts a timer where you need to engage with that content or risk wiping out your bastion. What they do require is deep game knowledge and a lot of luck.

It may be possible to beat it without grinding, but it's so much luck. If the boss only targets one hero (twice in a row it was plague doc now) and kill him on the first deaths door check, you're f&@ked. Not saying skill doesn't matter, it can help increase chance. It's just even more chance based than the first one, combined with so many unlocks that will take probably 50 hours to get at least the basic good ones. The beta wasn't so grindy and was a good game, but now it's trash that forgot why the first darkest dungeon was good. You invested in heroes and built up a town, but it was part of the progression. You picked when to face boss challenged and choose who to risk. Investment and choice was key, not repetition of the same stuff to get candles.

I really hope the modders pick up DD2 the same way they did DD1, but the different "engine" for sprites/graphics is proving troublesome (and DD1's Spine was already a mess). I mean take a look at Black Reliquary for DD1! If we can ever reach something similar for DD2, I'm over the moon, but until then, I reckon DD1 will remain the front of the series

In my very first darkest dungeon 2 run, I had a plauge doctor (you only can pick four so she was mandatory) and she had a quirk that forced you to the front every battle start. Oh and that quirk what actually a "good" quirk so you couldn't get rid of it reliably. And there were no decent items items to use. It was rigged from the start, we were never meant to win.

Oh, so the DD series logo has a name, the Iron Crown! Interesting As someone who didn't play DD2 and played DD1 for like an hour or so... I was always under impression Iron Crown is actually an angelic halo with nails driven into it. Hence why those spikes are sharp in the inside and flattened on the outside. An interesting way to subverse an original halo, which is heavily associated with good, hope, etc.

Ironically, my first run through of darkest dungeon 2 I won. It was the craziest play through ever. All I had was the four heroes we start with, and yet somehow I made it all the way to the snowy mountain. Finally I was at the weird chain boss fight. Of course I didn’t walk out unharmed, the only character left was Graverobber and somehow she avoided all the attacks and took down the final chain lock. I couldn’t believe that my first run through was also my first complete. I shoulda bought a lottery ticket that night.

Now I dont know much about this game but it seems like boss buffs during the run would feel more fair if they were avoidable to a certain extent but by doing so you have less of a chance for good loot. I do understand that Otz is not playing the game in the usual way as he is trying to do it all in one go but it still seems like an interesting opportunity for a game design discussion so I thought I would bring it up.
