Calling Claudettes "Blendettes" isn’t necessarily racist, it’s just highlighting the fact that because of her darker hair, clothes and skin, combined with the brightness and graphics of old DBD, she would easily blend in with the environment… In my opinion, it was just a funny nickname the community gave to her, since she was the stealthiest character back then.

Old player here, for the trapper in 2016, you could unhook through trapped hooks, but the moment the unhook animation finished, the unhooked immediately got trapped! Perk colors were also determined by the old teachable system: the order of unlock was correlating to the perks level 3 rarity, for example: empathy was green, botany knowledge was purple, and self care with pink

Yeah, you had to go by the tick marks rather than the color to determine the tier, because some tier 3 perks would be purple and some would be green.

4 man hatch escapes are really not all that glamorous since all gens needed to be completed for the hatch to spawn with 4 survivors still alive, so you could just leave out the exit gates anyway at that point. But yeah, 3 man hatch escapes were obnoxious.

16:30 I was a Myers Main back in the Day and what I liked about him as well was you could stalk into a distance, where you visiably don´t see anyone but somehow get like 1 BP from Stalking. I used this as info to know where Survivors are, even when I might not see them, helped quite a lot.

A thing to add about "not being able to unhook from the sides" : The game only had one key bound to both the unhook and trap disarm actions. Add to that the fact that the unhooking action teleported you in front of the hook and instantly trapped you and you had a winner combo for most annoying "strat". Not only did you not have window blocking back then, but you also didn't get any form of bloodlust or any other kind of speed boost. The whole thing with skill checks back when I played (still is a problem today I believe) is that the skill check cursor can stutter like crazy sometimes unless you edit the game's config files for a higher framerate or have a beast of a PC.

You missed the hex meta that came into prominence just before the Thrill buff (not surprising, because it was so brief), which was Plaything+Pentimento+another strong hex like Devour. People ran it on killers that could really take advantage of the Oblivious effect from Plaything to encourage survivors to cleanse aggressively, and then they could quickly Pentimento 3, 4 or sometimes even 5 totems. I remember both encountering it myself incredibly often and seeing high MMR survivor players run into it all the time in the 2 weeks or so before Thrill took over.

Notes while watching: (9:02) 1. Thrill of the Hunt always had reduced totem cleanse speed, but its token obtainment method was different, working like Devour Hope (new to me!) (10:08) 2. End Game Collapse, while after Legion by proxy, was the update directly after Plague. (22:58) 3. Hillbilly actually had 4 addons which increased charge speed, being Spark Plug, Primer Bulb, *The Thompsons' Mix* and then Carburetor Tuning Guide. (24:30) 4. Negative and Positive modifiers work with the negative applying first, then the positive applying to that new number. Self-Care without a medkit, by the point in time of this build (mid 2017 - mid 2018) would be an even 20 seconds with Botany Knowledge (the most likely combo). (26:45) 5. It was 2%, it's why Stake Out has that line that says it grants an extra 1% to generator greats. (30:14) 6. Hag only released with Pale Rose. Grim Pantry is Bubba's map. (48:43) 7. Looking at patch notes, it doesn't seem like Oni got any substantial nerfs to his power that would lead him to being less scary. More of these looks like buffs than nerfs, but I don't remember the Cursed Legacy PTB all that well, so it's entirely possible I'm wrong and they might have nerfed him mid-PTB. (1:01:26) 8. While I know it's not meant literally, by this point in time Freddy had been reworked for at least a year, considering Undying is used. His inevitable nerf wouldn't come til May of the following year. (1:02:58) 9. Upon Freddy's rework, the statement of Deep Wound depleting unless not in the Terror Radius was true, but it was changed when Oni came out due to the Legion being able to abuse Nemesis, so at the point in time of this build it would not work. (1:04:00) 10. Ruin was actually better than this. Normal killer regression is .33 charges per second, Ruin would then do regression at .66. 2 charges on a gen would regress in 3.03 repeating seconds from Ruin. (1:04:21) 11. Half-true, just like #9. Insta-heals were changed with the major healing and medkit rework with 3.3.0, meaning reworked Freddy had to deal with it for only 3 months. (1:06:23) 12. Again, only a half-correction. At their strongest, Swing Chains was 3% per asleep survivor, but Jump Rope was a staggering 9%. (The nerf mentioned was 2% and 4% respectively) (1:40:12) 13. While you do correct yourself saying Twins' power and Huntress' addon do Incapacitated, it's actually included in Pinhead's power and Xenomorph's turrets, but much less egregiously since one is setup, and the other is likely happening during chase anyways (1:44:26) 14. a Simplification of this description is anything that grants the "Damage Generator" scoring event. (1:56:10) Calm Spirit suppressed screams LONG before the silent Totem and Chest w/ 30% slower interact addition. i more than definitely missed something, especially regarding map generation as it's not in my brain basically ever, AND some of these are just me being pedantic, but i do feel some are somewhat important

2:11:10 I, personally, would make it so that the Hex totem cleansing progress immediately regresses progress the moment a survivor stops attempting to cleanse it and if a survivor fails to start cleansing the Hex totem after being interrupted, all progress is lost and the survivor must start over. Nothing hurts more than losing all progress cleansing a totem at the last second. *Details:* 1) Cleansing progress lost upon initial interruption by any means (scream or manual cessation): *90% of current progression* 2) Grace period before _all_ totem progress is lost: *4 seconds*

2:11:11 I think that's a really good mindset to have about game balance. If one change is able to completely warp the meta then I think it's wise to look at any fundamental issues rather then reverting changes. I wouldn't want them to go as far as killing hexes or anything, but noticing the fact hexes can quickly become very powerful with any shift in the meta is good reasons to do some "future prep". Personally, I'd like if cleansing totems gave some sort of buff to survivors, so there was incentive to cleanse every match. It would create a more dynamic hex gameplay between both sides, as killers would now have to place their perks Infront of powerful buffs survivors want, and it would also mean that blessing totems had a whole new dynamic, as you're now blocking your team from some sort of buff they could be receiving. (Also challenges that make you cleanse totems aren't a waste)

People werent wrong tho. Since ruin death-rework and until big meta reshake, game was EXTREMLY survivour sided cause of many perks + we had old dead hard for YEARS! YEEEEARS! Killers had meta changes. But survivours for 7-8 years had the most op stupid broken perk ever. It was so easy to play those days, that i intentionally put DH away to give killers some challenge. Cause with DH for everyone it was like 80-90% winrate.

Gen kicking eruption meta was BEST meta. Especially for killers. Finally, after years, killers stopped to be clowns for survivours. All stupidly op perks for survs were nerfed. Especially stupidly broken dead hard. Boon plague passed too. You finally could play and breath. Eruption felt so nice to use. Now, sadly, eruption is garbage almost with its useless effect. It was nice to be a powerhouse. Worst meta was BOON PLAGUE meta. Killers were literally unplayable for a YEAR! YEAR! this shit should be nerfed within a week or so like MoM was. Not took so many time. During this time we also got worst perk ever - shattered hope. Defeat a killer cost you basically nothing. You had 3-4 totems per match. And couldnt stop it usually. Team could infinite resetting. And you couldnt control whole map because of 1 vs 4 usually. They also had DH. And the only thing you could do was tunneling at best. Cause hitting doesnt work at all. Truly darkest times.

Hex: Thrill of the hunt was a really good perk in a lot of hex builds before its nerf... Getting a notification when someone starts to do a totem was extremely powerful on killers like the Oni. They removed this effect after Mikaela was introduced because this hex hard countered the boon mechanic.

37:43 It wasnt a "flinkering", it was the hair animation for the default face cosmetic that would reset its animation when the Spirit started to phase. If they had any cosmetic that wasnt the default cosmetic, it would remove this bug/glitch, thus removing any tell that the Spirit was phasing. Eventually the bug/glitch got patched anyways, so all forms of counterplay for that addon was removed and there was literally no way to tell if Spirit was phasing or not, thus leading to the "sit still to win" gameplay that people really hated. During that time there was a lot of misinformation being spread around about when Spirit started to phase since players did not want Spirit to get nerfed. "Just look at the shards" was a common one, since people thought the glow of the glass shards meant they were phasing, but in reality it was just a naturally occurring thing with the lighting. Another one was "you can tell when they are phasing from the animation of the arms" but Spirit on release had no animation for phasing or vaulting. It still baffles me til this day that people defended old Spirit's design by literally just making things up.

Old hatch was fun. The hatch use to have collision at the beginning of the match, it was just invisible. So you could figure out where hatch was by finding where the invisible bump was, put the key down beside it, and rush it when it was ready to be unlocked. Also, dbd was a lot of fun for me until they introduced MMR. Something about being able to see everyone's ranks made people more civil. There were many matches where either a killer or survivor was stomped but when you saw that baby rank 20 at the end of the match chat it was common to see apologies in chat for the crappy match making. Now with MMR being invisible you can't see how someone stands on the scale. Now I rarely see people apologize for the bad match up. :/

Slight correction on the old hatch spawn logic: the number of completed gens required equaled the number of alive survivors plus one. So with 4 people alive 5 gens had to be done, with 3 people alive 4 gens had to be done, 2 people needed 3 gens and hatch wouldn’t spawn if not at least 2 gens got done in the trial.

Nobody ever mentions how broken doctor was back in the day. He was insane at face camping In shock mode he could feather charge the shock over and over to ensure unhook grabs. The only counter was having multiple survivors body block which meant no gen progress and he'd get free madness on everyone

Most Effective Tactic Available is actually a backronym. It's short for metagame. meta- is a prefix borrowed from ancient Greek. Compare words like "metadata."

i think with the current build of the game, after you place a trap for a few moments (not sure how long) you can walk all over it without triggering it as killer

Reminds me of the anti-boon perk that permanently breaks totems, them adding that to counter the strength of some boons due to them being able to be placed over and over again.

Ahh, a trip down memory lane. Some decisions I still don’t get, like removing grabs off hook, but others like allowing people to unhook from any direction to stop killers from just body blocking, Was much needed. I still miss old Hex Ruin though.

I think the concept behind removing grabs off of hook was just to further prevent hard camping/proxy camping. If you're saving while healthy, you're basically guaranteed to get the unhook in exchange for a trade, which is what BHVR would rather promote instead of hard camping one person

Hook grabs were annoying, unnecessary and just incentivized camping without much risk since anti camp was not a thing. You pretty much could not go for an unhook but yourself which felt awful in solo q. So glad it’s gone.

Hardened is great for breaking the Thrill meta especially if you can get a dull out of the way first. I’ve gotten the aura read and broken those hex builds countless times recently.
