When I first went through Dying light, I had a bug that did not show me that the weapon was broken. So I went through over 85% of the game with a broken weapon because I didn't know it was broken. I used normal (undamaged) weapons only at the beginning of the game and in the arena, the rest of the game I went through using a broken weapon, which was a korek machete. I've watched different episodes before, at different KZbin channels, that's why I knew how to get the korek machete. So one of the first things I did was go for this weapon. I went through the game at normal difficulty, but that's because it was my first attempt at this game Edit: Btw, I died so many times

Yeah, both korek machetes and the expcaliber (there might be more, but it looks like it is only for developer melee weapons) don't show their durability, and you have to go into the inventory or the swap panel (whatever it's called) to see where it is. Gladly, it doesn't look like that it is a problem for regular one use weapons (like rebar or anything that gives nails when scrapped.) Hopefully this can be of use for you or anyone else.

Quick tip: try to get good upgrades for your melees, like king's or other ones. And after that, you should use a weapon blueprint that will slice the zombies deeper. That will increase damage. I have done this on a dark sickle and it can decapitate and one-tap after being completely broken.
