4:40 Yeah. It's a glitch with the Broken Steel DLC. For some reason, it turns Dogmeat into a god. Godmeat, if you will. Basically, the way I think it works, is that as you level up, Dogmeat levels up, too, but his health points level up exponentially, when I think it's supposed to level up linearly. So yeah. Broken Steel is broken.

Fun fact: that Dog meat glitch that makes him near unkillable also applies to two other companions, Fawkes and Sergeant RL-3. Both Dogmeat and Fawkes have 15,000 hp while Sergeant RL-3 has 10,500 hp. Their HP scales with your level making them exponentially stronger with time

Alternatively if that would break it too much as a challenge, you could try a grenade only run and use them as a last resort weapon since they're basically mini nukes you can throw. As grenades, imo, are annoying to use in any Bethesda Fallout prior to 4 I think it could still be pretty challenging.

Honestly this was the only version of dogmeat that I actually enjoyed having as a companion. To be frank I hated having him near me while exploring in 4, as he'd either get in the way, constantly trip traps and blow my cover while stealthed, and knock items out of the way when I'd try to pick up small trinkets or what have you. The only upside was he can wear armor. Overall 3s dogmeat was the best to me in my opinion.

In my playthrough of fallout 3, dogmeat beated two Deathclaw on his own and his health barely changed, Fawkes is also another broken character in the game and can probably be the best and stronghest one, cause even without broken steel he is still a metal door to go through with his health and gatling laser, only problem is that he glitches a lot.

I heard they added health to Dogmeat in Broken Steel for the same reason they added Dogmeat puppies, to keep you from being able to get a second companion if Dogmeat dies. (They rebalanced and and added content to the game rather than fixing a bug.)

Skyrim has the same problem where followers refuse to disengage from combat when you flee and just stay there (if they don't seemingly disappear from existence at your audacity of trying to pull them from battle). I usually just end up using the console to bring them back to my side from wherever they get off to (or just use the Lover's Call ability from the standing stones mod), but I'm playing casually so I'm allowed to do that.
