Venat's ultimate goal seems to be to put the reins of history in the hands of the mortal races. The other Occuria had been manipulating history for eons, at least since the time of the original Dynas King. Venat's putting an end to that. In a sense, he's a good guy

I hope Jam considers an FFV Four Job Fiesta run. It feels like he would really enjoy the challenge run aspect and it could be cool to compare an older game to the more recent entries he's been working his way through.

With Gilgamesh theres actually an explanation given in 5. He gets cast into the Void between worlds and travels around in there trying to find Bartz and the ultimate weapon. And during his travels he stumbles into all the other worlds

And he eventually finds his way back... well, not quite home, but to the party he's been seeking, right as they enter the deepest sections of the rift. EDIT: One other note about this particular fight that needs mentioning - most of the weapons he wields are fakes, not the real deals, just like the sword that got him sent to the void in the first place being a knockoff Excalibur.

Very fun series! Vennat seems to borrow from the Prometheus myth - Vennat stole away the control the Occuria had over the fates of men and set in motion a series of events to set humanity free. It does seem like the story of FFXII couldn't quite figure out its identity, and towards the end it rushes to tie everything it's been building towards into some sort of messy cohesive package. Perhaps one day Square Enix will remake FFXII like they are doing with VII - And give us a re-imagined interpretation of XII's story that does its potential justice.

There's no limit on number of summons a character can have. The only restriction is that each summon can only be used on a single character. As for Yiazmat, a strategy you have access to is to use the break Technicks. You could simply make him not be too powerful by using them and then it's simply a case of not running out of PDs (as he still does an insta-kill attack)... Interesting thing about the Chaos fight is you can 'attack' by using Telekenesis. It's not the best damage, but it works. Also, you missed Hell Wyrm, as well as the entirety of the Hunt Club, so you did miss quite a few strong fights. You also didn't do Earth Tyrant, IIRC (and also of coruse as mentioned the other Espers and Omega)

I was about to say a character can have all 13 Espers. But each Espers can be unlock on one character at a time. Until I saw this comment. Espers can be swap to another character since we can reset License Board

HOLY COW that was quite a watch. You now have a new subscriber! Final Fantasy XII was the game I played with during my late highschool-early College years - and that was the OG FFXII, so no jobs and damage caps in effect. With 300 hours in, I've cleared most of Ivalice - sans Yiazmat and Zodiark. And watching you play it through made me relive the time in my life where life began to swing much faster - transitioning to my early adulthood and this game keeping me company to slow things down. Binged through all 7 parts and you've definitely made me itch to play this game one more tine. Now for the Occurian Plot about Venat. The Occurians are ancient and powerful beings, even considered as gods, where through their influence and interference dictate and weave the world events in Ivalice - this is seen where they grant the Shards to Raithwall to defeat his enemies and make his rule legit. Venat is an Occurian who went rogue - where it sees how the rule of man is much more interesting than having the fate of Ivalice dictated by the Occurians, hence why it is declated a heretic - so it makes its way to Ivalice and influences the mind of Dr. Cid and Vayne - who is then introduced to the powers and secrets of Nethicite - basically giving mankind control of their destiny using the power of the stones. To fight back - The Occurians are projecting Rasler/Reks as a means to string Ashe and the gang along to stop Venat their way - ensuring the Occurians still hold the reins - while the war is playing out in the background. The Sun Cryst is the source of all Nethicite - and Ashe was instructed to cut a piece to get her own stone - but she refused to take the knee and destroyed the stone against the Occurrians wishes, which also destroyed Venat's ambition to have Ivalice squabble over stones, thus leaving Ivalice to it's own fate ready to be forged. From there - with the outpouring energy of the Sun Cryst - made Fortress Bahamut active and as one final act by Venat - to help Vayne make his rule total by eliminating the resistance in one final showdown, ultimately dying with Vayne being defeated by the party at the end. In the end the story was about moving forward from the past - and forging the road to the future with your own will and strength - and without dictation and strings attached by gods _(or maybe that was their plot too?)_ Regardless, seeing someone play XII with a healthy commentary, meme edits, and go through this challenge made my week. I'm thinking to buy the game myself and do a playthrough too! Thanks for this, my dude. Wishing you success!

I am so used to the old ps2 version where max damage was 9999. I was so confused as to why scathe was doing double that and more. I never knew zodiac age got rid of the damage limit!

1:09:03 I think the design inspiration here is meant to be, well, Bahamut (as in the traditional summon), actually. The Undying looks like a dragon, has *Megaflare* , and even an attack named *Gigaflare* Sword, IIRC.

It was sooo cool to see this kind of a playthrough! FFXII is super fun, so this is definitely a great way to revisit the game. All of your FF runs have been very entertaining, so I'm excited to see what's next :D

Haven't seen anyone mention it, but there is a reason carrot is a rank 7. If you don't kill it fast enough it will double its level therefore boosting all of its stats. Also if it doubles its level and gets low on health it basically just spams bad breath. So for the unprepared or under leveled you're gonna have a really bad time.

You should try out the randomizer for the game, it randomize the stats of enemies, buff and debuff on equipment and even the license board

As a kid i got stuck at two points in this game. Once in the ozmone plain when you had to get the chocobo too pass thru the grass. And then another time in Giruvegan where you just have to run off the edge to summon the invisble platforms i just ran around and killed enemies for hours unable to progress 🤣🤣

FFXII is actually my favorite game of the series. Not because of the story, but because of the world, atmosphere, battle system, license system and music. The locations are just breathtaking, and i like characters designs. I sometimes just start the game just to run around the world, talk to npcs, listen to the music, etc. The story, unfortunately, the weak point of the game, it's understandable that not many people like it. Back in the days when this game was new, i started it like several times, and never finished it (mostly because i didn't know how to earn money). When i became older and replayed it several years later i started to appreciate it more. I played original version without classes and all. The game was difficult, even though your characters could use all types of weapons or equipment, and every character basically was the same, but still it was difficult. And you also couldn't open every chest because you could ruin your chance to get Zodiac Spear. The game was hard. This version of the game is greatly nerfed in comparison (except maybe archeaevis enemies in Zertinan Cavern, they were much easier in original). But maybe it's my memory plays tricks on me, i don't know. Thank you for this challenge, it was really fun to watch! ^^

Someone can explain this better and give more lore but the Occuria are the Gods, they themselves can’t intervene in the affairs of the world and so they must direct man to do their will. They believe without their guidance, the world would fall into ruin and as you saw throughout the game, Ashe was seeing visions of Rassler which was their way of enforcing their will onto her.

In all honestly the fight isn’t really fun, it’s just a painfully long slog. I setup gambits 5 minutes in so I could afk and do something else. Jam could do another special episode where he fights Zodiark, Ultima or Omega and do trial mode as well?

No doubt, the story did kind of get really weird and lame when the Nethicite ghosts came into it...staple of so many great FF games...all is going well, then they just go off planet (sometimes quite literally.)
