Yes, you read this title right. A month ago, I set out on a Persona 5 challenge to see if I could beat Persona 5 Royal in a ridiculous way. This video is going to be a long-detailed explanation of how I went about this. So, join me through my trials and tribulations as I slowly lose my sanity all in HD video. Today we ask, Can You Beat Persona 5 Royal without Attacking? The better question is probably 'Should you?', and the answer is NO! So let this video be a warning to you all that your time is worth more than mine.

Rules:
1. No Traditional Attacks. This includes normal attacks, gun attacks and any magic skill that inflicts direct damage to the enemy. No Showtimes, Follow-Ups, Gun Ambuses and All-Out Attacks can be used.*
2. Attacking the enemy due to being Enraged is allowed. (Just like with that footnote, I’m being forced to commit the action)
3. Skills that inflict Status Ailments on the Enemy are allowed.
4. All DLC Items and Persona can be used.
5. All items and consumables (including those that deal damage) are allowed.
6. Fresh Game, No New Game Plus.
*I may use the aforementioned before 4/18 (as the game forces you) and in scripted fights where you must perform that action in order to progress
(The idea of this run is that we can not use traditional methods to attack - we have to subvert the game and use different techniques to deal damage. This is why I allowed damaging items and aliments.)

Wakaba and Maruki break the trend by not being Shadows. Wakaba is just an extremely violent shadow, while Maruki *is* Maruki. Their palaces don't require beating their Shadows, as Futaba and Maruki accept them before the Phantom Thieves attack.

The fact you beat Okumura's palace under these conditions is nothing short of extraordinary, especially considering what you went through. Thats probably the only part i couldnt see being done like this. I'm currently nearing the end of my Arsene only run, no dlc, only itemizing captured persona and fusion only to unlock lockdown. Somewhat surprisingly its not all that difficult. I even had to remove lockdown from the equation after a couple uses and realizing my stats would balloon out of control, as well as start to just end most fights about mid-way through the game with negotiation just to keep my level from getting to high. I guess the point of bringing it up is that the game can be easily broken in so many different ways that removing even several mechanics by choice still makes it a comfortable experience. Doing something like this seems the only insane type runs you could do. Perhaps no confidant runs would be interesting, a bump up in difficulty even if not outrageous, but thats removing the majority of the game outside dungeon crawling. Anyway, thinking out loud typing on the internet aside, amazing job. No question here, just I hope it was a gratifying experience for you and would gladly tune into another such run.

tip for pronouncing any and all japanese: The syllables are mostly 1 to 2 letters long when romanized, rarely going to 3 characters and tend to end in a vowel. So you pronounced the magatama mag-ma-tah, but correct pronunciation is ma-ga-ta-ma. Another example, selected randomly: Tsumugi is [Tsu] [mu] [gi], and is pronounced as such. As you can see, it's chopped up by vowels. It's pretty rare that Japanese ever deviates from this pattern, so it's great to learn if you're gonna do videos like this often.

Shido's name doesn't actually change during the fourth and fifth phases. Every Palace ruler has a middle name that relates to their sin. For example, Kamoshida is referred to as "Suguru Asmodeus Kamoshida," and Asmodeus is the prince of hell who rules over Lust. Samael is never referred to by his full moniker of "Masayoshi Samael Shido" before you defeat the Beast of Human Sacrifice because you're attacking the beast and not Samael himself. Samael is an archangel of Taldumic origin, who acted as Satan's main operative, although possibly under God's command still, being the snake who tempted Adam and Eve to bite the Forbidden Fruit, and possibly Satan himself under an angelic name. This would make Samael the origin of Pride.

Won't lie, it's massively impressive that you found a possible workaround for anyone crazy enough to do a no direct attack run, and be able to get past the first dungeon with ease... ... But with 90% of the names being mispronounced, my brain is doing cartwheels in all the wrong ways. It's not like you're putting emphasis in the wrong parts (well, there was one time with Media- where you said it as the world 'ME-dee-uh' instead of 'meh-DEE-uh'), but I noticed you were swapping around some letters a lot, like with Shiki-Ouji, Arahabaki, and the like.

1:13:00 Do you want to know why Akechi is that loved? Simple it has everything a blind sick fan would love to see -he’s a charismatic character much like Light Yagami (From death note) outsmarting people -he’s a rival who compares to the protagonist while being the villain. So people pretend he’s not a madman but has some kind of different villanlike unconventional morality. -unlike Light Yagami there aren’t dialogues where people condemn him for the crime he did. The scene where he confess everyone is take him down very gently because they don’t hate him as much as Shido. So people can actually pretends he was just a victim and did nothing wrong and it was Shido to take control over him. -he’s a mysterious character overall so people can have crazy moments to speculate about him secretly suffering for what he’s doing and so on. You can create the fan fiction you like. (If you are willing to pretend it wasn’t his choice and his plan to do all that). -he has a thing for the protagonist so everyone ended up writing fan fictions where he’s a tsundere who deeply loves Joker. (Which also contradicts the fact it was his idea to pretend he committed suicide and instead kill him with cold blood and no remorse whatsoever afterwards, like true friends do). -Sometimes there are people who would say very similar things about the phantom thieves pretending he actually wanted to join them for whatever made up morality. And even him being a member of the main group as if he didn’t hate everyone and wasn’t ready to kill everyone else just after dealing with Joker. In a nutshell it’s the perfect character to write fanfiction about. Many people just wrote their own Akechi on the mystery he has around him before his confession and by selectively forgetting vital information from the plot to have your favorite tsundere rival detective.

So I accidentally used Beast Weaver in the early phase of the Shido fight. And because it doesn't "Exit" the battle between phases, my attack would be basically zero. Well, my only way through the final phase was to spam reflect moves. I didn't think that the fight would end that anticlimactically, but there's always next time!

This is something I remember is consistently possible with everyone should you guard fast enough so i dont think its anything to do with Showtimes (the animation plays before you get control back) i dont know whats going on either

Those videos are actually old ones from RE8 and my new P5R challenge run video (which fingers crossed is out by months end!). I was fairly unhappy with them - the p5r was testing out the new shorts feature and forgot to remove from the playlist, the RE8 one i did a speedrun of the game - but wasn't a big fan of how of turned out, wasn't my style. But hopefully this next (planned) 2.5 hr video will be more like it...

Really good Vid, aside from the fact that the fist fight with Maruki is cut out, though idk if you can skip having to attack him there. If you can't, then it's definitely impossible, atleast on a true ending run. But if you can, then nice

The problem with Okumura is that the game designed that entire fight around the baton pass mechanic to allow you to overwhelm the groups with triple damage before all out attacks.
