After not playing Pokemon Blue for 10 years I figured a good way to return to it was to never level up my Pokemon! The game was modified to disable experience gain and the daycare wasn't allowed! The only way to ever level up is the 10 Rare Candies that exist already. It was a ton of fun so I hope you enjoy!

Jumittaja 06 critical hits were based off speed in gen 1. Because razor leaf has a high critical hit ratio, they combined to almost guarantee a critical hit. And I believe the actual ratio is 99.6%. Same for slash with Persian.

SilverX UmbreonX Basically the formula for crit% in these games is [Base Speed]/(64). Note that this applies for moves with a “high critical hit ratio” such as crabhammer, slash, and-you guessed it- Razor leaf. With the examples of moves above if a Pokémon’s base speed is over 64 they will always crit. Also note that this ignores leveling up/stat boosts because it is BASE speed. The early games were a wee bit broken

(from the question at 2:07) Here's why Red's hat goes from red to blue when you start a battle: on the gameboy color, there's one palette for backgrounds (in this case, shades of blue) and one palette for sprites (in this case, shades of red). Because Red's hat passes over the opponent, it has to be rendered with sprites instead of background tiles, at least for the animation. When they settle down, they switch to rendering it with background tiles for whatever reason. Bear in mind that on the original gameboy this is seamless because it's all monochrome, and on the super gameboy you can only assign different palettes to different regions of the final screen, not to sprites as opposed to backgrounds.

1:06:05 The reason you outspeed it here is because of the Badge Boost glitch. Each badge in Gen 1 boosts a different stat for your pokemon by 12.5% every time you send it out to battle. However, due to a glitch, it also does this EVERY time your stats are changed. You got a Special drop from Psychic, so it boosted your Speed.

at 1:06:12 you outsped alakazam because it lowered one of your stats. let me explain: the badges give the players a 10% boost to specific stats (i think kogas badge is the badge for speed possibly). every time you get a stat drop the game counts the 10% boost again thanks to the incredible coding of gen 1 games. so at that point, because psychic lowered your spatk, you actually had 21% more speed.

my first pokemon game was actually pokemon stadium and I couldn't read all that well back then. so a lot of it was just learning things through trial and error, and paying attention to type colors. and the length of the move names. it lead to moments like discovering that pokemon with the green symbol were strong against pokemon with the brownish one. so when attempting brock's gym, I'd grab the whole oddish family, and early stage bug pokemon. and then be confused why half of my team was underperforming. if memory serves me right, I got pretty far despite that.

The Victreebel kept trying to Poisonpowder because the gym and Elite 4 AI will always try and use super effective moves, in this case, poison is supper effective against grass, so it thinks it's super effective. This exploit can be used to set up on Lorelei's Dewgong, which knows rest, so any Poison type can set up all it wants

According to KZbin analytics a video with just under ten minutes makes 1 USD per 1000 views for the type of content he makes. for an hour worth of video you get about 10 USD per 1000 views. So he made 500 USD from this one video. Subs mean nothing when it comes to income, views and adds is all that matters. So don't be baffled this guy makes a bucketload of money for his content so I think he isn't underrated by any means.

@@biblee9804 I'm not 100% sure about this one, so feel free to correct me but a rom version of pokemon black, there was this thing where you wouldn't/couldn't gain exp, so when you fought cheren and Bianca first, you didn't get exp, likewise when you fought N in accumula town, you got no exp from beating him. I read it was to do with a faulty/nodded emulator but I don't think so. This was from my experience so that's why I'm not sure this was the reason. But still, I didn't realise until after my fight with N when I realised I had won against that level 7 pokemon with my level 5 snivy and still got no exp lmao. Damn I talk too much

I always pictured Tombstoner as Draco Meteor's Ghost-type cousin, where instead of meteors raining from the sky, it's tombstones, and it does the same amount of damage, and lowers your Sp Atk by 2 after use

That moment when Ant threw away some Carbos and Protein during Safari Zone to make space in inventory...when he could have just sold it for the same price of a nugget =X. Also, to make Erika easier, he could just have got the Eevee then evolved it with a water stone, teach it Ice Beam with the TM 13, buy one x-speed and BAM, spamming ice beam would obliterate her team.

@@glowstonelovepad9294 Flareon in gen 1 learns fire type moves at level 34,and its not even ember.Its fire spin...at least it works like wrap in gen 1. No,how Flareon REALLY works is getting the tm for double edge,teaching it,and then...well you got a powerhouse that hits like a DRAGONITE.I used one in yellow,and it almost never used a fire type move.

Blizzard's accuracy is high and Articuno was kinda OP in Gen 1. The Special split nerfed its special attack and Blizzard's accuracy was nerfed as of Gen 2.

To answer Ant's question, despite how late it is, in Erica's gym the Victribell used poison powder on your bellsprout every turn because the AI is programmed to use a "super effective" move whenever possible and it only looks at your pokemon's primary typing. Since Bellsprout is Grass first it used the poison move every turn without exception.

basically, you sand attack brock and route 3, then you catch clefairy in mt. moon and evolve it which carries you to dugdrio and then you use dugtrio to get to zapdos (and maybe articuno as well if you are patient enough to catch it).

35:00 Victreebel is locked on Poison powder because it's its only super effective move against Bellsprout's first type (Grass). In gen I, "smart" IA always use moves with a type that is super effective against you, even it is not an offensive move. The same thing happens if you fight Lance's Dragonite with a Poison-type Pokémon: it will be locked into Agility (a Psychic-type move).

56:59 even in later gens, poliwag doesn't evolve 3 times tho. It can evolve into 3 different pokemon, but it can only evolve 2 times. if it went poliwag > poliwhirl > poliwrath > politoed, THEN it would evolve 3 times, but it either goes poliwhirl > poliwrath or poliwhirl > politoed, meaning it still only evolves 2 times, just the 2 times don't always have the same outcome
