Fun fact: if you reach level four honor, you can unlock a special grip for the cattleman revolver, the hero pearl grip. You also unlock a gunslinger ebony grip for the double action revolver at some point in honor, which is odd, you’d think you’d need negative but I guess not according to numerous replies. If you’re looking to try them yourself, check components when customising the sidearm, then grip. It’s not in the style category as one would expect.

The Cattleman is not the "weakest gun in the game" just because you get it first. It's middle-of-the-road, and perfectly viable if one uses the various ammo available. John's revolver is technically a Cattleman but has more damage IIRC; it would be even easier using that Note: the old lady DID, in fact, run back inside the burning house and die there, but there was something worth much more than 39 cents in there.

I used two Cattlemans as Arthur's main sidearms for the whole game, mostly because I liked their classic cowboy aesthetic. They never failed me once. Dead Eye is so op in this game that even the weakest and most impractical weapons can be insane killing machines.

In real life, it was so weak that this guy tried to shoot himself in the head a few times, like 3-4 iirc, and he still didn't die. His family found him bleeding profusely from his head, but he was still alive. I don't think it penetrated his skull, iirc.

I actually use EVERY sidearm: every mission I switch to the next pair (I dual-wield all of them) so one mission i use two cattleman, next mission, two double-action, and so on and so forth. Even two sawed-off shotguns. But I don't use the special variants, since I enjoy customizing my weapons, and it also makes them feel like my weapons, I store the special ones, so Granger's Revolver, Flaco's Revolver, Calloway's Revolver...etc. I do use The Midnight Pistol alongside Bronte's Mauser Pistol (not a special weapon). Anyway I'll stop rambling, Cheers.

One of my few small gripes with the RDR-verse has been that the real life counterpart to the Cattleman would have been the stronger revolvers/pistols (in the sense that it chambered and was able to fire the more powerful cartridge) of all with the possible exception of the C96, who could launch a faster bullet, albeit ones of smaller in diameter than the .45 colt. But then again, these are just video games, so I'll cope.

Any gripes with this game are minor since it's my favorite game of all time but yeah being that I own and shoot western styles revolvers and rifles there are a few inaccuracies. One I cringe at every time is when John pops the cylinder out the side on his single action revolver to check it before riding off with the other ranch hands in the epilogue....

The other thing that bothers me is when Arthur and John draw their single actions, but don't pull the hammer back while drawing. They're essentially pointing a gun at their enemy with the safety on. I also hate when the SA fires without the hammer being pulled back. It takes me right out of the immersion.

@@qwerty10384 To be fair; while the pistol sucked, the repeater evolved into the Henry (Litchfield) and then evolved into the Winchester Yellow Boy (Lancaster) which was basically the great grand father of the modern Winchester rifle, meanwhile the guys that designed the Volcanic teamed up again to found Smith&Wesson, while their first company (which produced the Volcanic) was bought by Winchester.

@@princejohn8245 yeah I know the shootout in valentine at the end of chapter 2 keeps auto equipping midnights pistol which isn’t the biggest thing You have to use a sniper in the same mission while scaring the sheep guards There’s the mission with Sadie when you go get Abigale which forces you to use a sniper You have to use a cannon at the end of the Guarma chapter against the boat but you can hit the guy in the tower with a lucky shot I’m sure there are more but I can’t think of them off the top of my head

This is one of my biggest issues with the game actually, once you get the basic model of each gun type you don’t really have to buy any more ever again. The only useful stat is magazine size since any shot to the head will instantly kill an enemy and scoring headshots is super easy even without Deadeye.

Deadeye reloads your gun entirely, so magazine capacity doesn't matter. Every gun in RDR2 is perfectly viable and not really outclassed by any other gun to an extremely noticeable degree, except for the carcano which makes the rolling block rifle obsolete since it and the springfield are the only two guns that can't be reloaded by deadeye.

Wayyyyyyy late but fun fact the Murphree Brood from chapter 6 can survive cattleman headshots. Its relatively rare but some of those guys are some tough bastards (some can even survive a non headshot shotgun blast)

Fun fact, the horse in the camp where the guy burnt himself to death is the rarest horse in the whole game by a country fucking mile. The white splashed american paint can only be obtained from camps with hostile npcs that tell you to go away, it can't be bought or found anywhere else. Since those camps are random and any low to mid tier horse with any coat can spawn in them, the chances you get the white splashed are abysmally low

I always use cattleman revolver with a few weapon overhaul mods that makes all the weapons have slower reload but packs a punch for cattleman along side with the first ever horse i used through out the game

For those of you who dont know, the white Arabian at Lake Isabella isnt the best horse you can get in chapter 2. There is a random event that can happen at night in Saint Denis which causes a Black Arabian to spawn nearby. You can then steal this horse and go about with a free black Arabian in Chapter 2.

Head shots are really easy with the auto aim on console. I survived most of them game before bothering to get another gun, and then I just stuck with 2 m1899's for the rest of the game.

The m1899 is probably one of the most fun guns to dual wield with dead eye but the only bad thing is how fast you go through ammo aside from the low damage

The cattleman was what my Arthur used for both of my playthroughs. Express bullets and you have a revolver on par with the Schofield.

I use the Cattleman as my main pistol through the whole game. The Schofield feels more like a rich man's personal protection piece while the Cattleman is the classic cowboy quick-shooter. I like a light loadout so I will typically run the Cattleman, sawed-off in the offhand holster, Lancaster on my shoulder, Rolling Block on my back. I really like the shotguns so sometimes I'll keep one on my horse.

Fun fact if you do the quest about killing the gunslinger there are two unique revolvers you can pick up from them Flacos cattleman and Grangers cattleman that do a increased amount of damage
