Fun fact: Even though they're pretty good at stabbing, katanas were primarily designed and used for slashing. So this run is basically holding up the middle finger to its intended function for nearly every boss in the entire game.

They're 'pretty good at stabbing' compared to things like a kitchen knife or machete, but aren't just designed primarily for slashing but significantly compromise their utility as a stabbing weapon to be better as a slashing one. They were very good swords for their time and context, but against someone in plate armour you'd honestly be better served by a screwdriver. It's only a few steps removed from trying to block a claymore with a modern fencing rapier.

@@ttchme9816 half swording with a katana isn't really a thing due to it being curved (since its point is not aligned with the handle it'll have a worse thrust in general), having a single edge also makes it worse for thrusting. Half swording is meant to be more precise and powerful thrust, but its shape makes a katana a lot more imprecise with its thrust

One of the hardest things about this run is probably trying to ignore your muscle memory to avoid accidentally deflecting attacks lol, especially with bosses like Genichiro.

There are programmable third party controllers but bit expensive for one challenge to move block/deflect to special button to not accidentally press. On pc that is bit easier to do but on console it requires cash.

Technically speaking, there is one combat art and one prosthetic tool that consist of a thrust attacks. And while I'm not sure about the prosthetic tool, I'm pretty sure Owl can Mikiri the combat art, making it a game-certified thrust.

That combat art is locked behind Mikiri counter tree, which, while you can technically get, would make it harder to dodge through opposing thrusts without accidently using Mikiri losing a potential Thrust or two.

@@airbots4789 Mikiri is an act of parrying a Thrust with dodging instead. Mikiri isn't an attack per say, so no, Owl cannot Mikiri a Mikiri (+it doesn't really make sense too)

nah, the lightning isn't getting thrusted at the dragon, is a slice that hits him. It would've been possible to hit him with the sword, as his neck will get really close to the ground on certain attacks, something abused in speedruns, but it would've taken really really long to defeat it and even then not really pose too much of a challenge mechanic wise.

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone pair Nioh music with Sekiro, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's awesome that it's happened twice. Nagamasa's theme really fits the somber undertones of the Isshin fight. White Tiger/Shibata's theme would have also worked quite well.

Having now played Sekiro since the first time I watched this I am in absolute awe of your perseverance. It's not easy to tell just how hard this is unless you have personally experienced the tedium of an actual vitality deathblow on most bosses. I think in my first playthrough the only bosses I ever killed with vitality deathblows were the guardian ape(s) and the two bulls.

I raise you first playthrough great shinobi owl vitality kill I did first phase with posture but 2nd phase I was so nervous I played insanely passive and at some point decided that trying for posture kill wasn't really worth it anymore attempt took like 20 mins, don't know how I managed

16:48 I laughed for longer than I'd like to admit at that. Just a side note: You could've deflected those ranged attacks that were giving you so much trouble. Deflecting those doesn't do any posture damage... Most of the time. But when it does, it's usually just a glitch.

I revisit this video quite often, Baron - I think it might be your best one yet. First of all, amazing gameplay, really nice edits for an overall really cool video, I would love to see more Sekiro in your channel! Other than that: since the only reason you didn't allow deflection is to avoid posture damage, you could have absolutely used it against the ranged projectiles of Geni(arrows), Lady Butter(kunai) and Owl (shurikens). Specially for Owl this would've made the fight significantly easier, as it would've allowed you to always dodge the sweep and position yourself behind him every time he does the shuriken+jump or the shuriken+chasing slice. It would have also been really useful in the final boss, geni's arrows and glock saint's bullets were a big problem as they are really hard to dodge, specially when they shoot multiple really quick, as you will get caught in between the first and second dodge. On another note, if you jump kick geni while he is about to do the lightning attacks you inmediatelly cancel those, I think it does damage, but it's SO little, and the ocasions are so few that I think it would've been fair to allow it, you coul've also taken the lightning and redirect it while looking at the other side of the arena, if it doesn't hit geni/Isshin it doesn't break the rules, the only downside is that you take a little damage, but that amount is nothing compared to getting hit by that. I think the jumping also works against Isshin, but I haven't tested it so I can't tell for sure. So yeah, my vote goes to more sekiro videos 100%
