Can You Beat Shadow of the Erdtree Using Only Throwing Knives? (MY FIRST PLAYTHROUGH!!)

The Elden Ring DLC is finally here! Of course, I had to try to beat it with only throwing knives as we now have an actual weapon to use alongside our consumable variant. But was doing this as my very first playthrough of the DLC a good idea?

@@KnightKRool no, it's pretty busted. obviously, not when compared to pre-patch bloodfiend arm or rolling sparks, but it's a bleed machine and has pretty crazy pr-hit damage on top of it. This is a result of each dagger having it's own hitbox, thus each cause status build up, compounding for insane status infliction

Mostly because of the claw moveset, dps potencial and it also having the scattershot ash of war, but it's good to know that they are viable.

As someone who used the Smithscript Daggers as my secondary weapon throughout the whole DLC, I absolutely love them. They definitely feel like they're better for dealing with adds than bosses though. I'll also say that in regards to bleed, it feels like most of the bosses have a much higher resistance to it than the base game ones. Frost has been my go to instead for bonus damage. Also, yes, the area leading up to Bayle was probably the most atmospheric section I've ever experienced in a soulslike topped off with probably the most epic dragon fight I've ever seen. Plus, Igon is the best. So glad you summoned him at least once. I'm currently working on streaming a playthrough of the game as him, (though for some reason his armor can't be given to other players), hunting down all the dragons throughout the game and DLC. Big thanks to you and other challenger runners for keeping me entertained with your countless hours of suffering, thus giving me the motivation to try and get into it a bit myself.

I'm so glad you did this, I adore all the smithscript weapons (the cirqe are my favorite since I've wanted a set of chakram since I saw the crystalians using them). And while I didn't fight all the bosses there were two I called upon my friend to help me with. The lion at the start, and Radhan. All that to say I'm amazed you beat him with just knives since I was using much stronger weapons than the knives and I could barely tickle that health bar

I will not stand for the slander of Shaman Village!!!! Seriously though, the insanity of deciding to use the throwing daggers for a FIRST PLAYTHROUGH is insanity (and probably made some bosses worse for ware). Radahn especially. I genuinely went for the shield-poke method, plus Mimic Tear, plus Ansbach. Summons get shredded, I just needed breathing room. Mad respect.

I know you're not much of a story guy, but just so you know Leda's boss fight is genuinely amazing if you do all the NPC questlines. It's not only by FAR From's best NPC fight, but also straight up just one or the most emotional and impactful ones they ever made. It's a 10/10 in everything except gameplay, and still surprisingly fun gameplay-wise as long as you summon the NPC allies for the battle. Of course though, if you just do it alone and don't care about the story, it'll simply be as annoying as any other NPC gank fight is.

The Scadutree Avatar is really just a check for how many fragments you’ve gotten. It takes so much damage if you have enough of them that it’s only real dangerous move is the three rushes at the start of phase 2. It’s basically the bag worm thing from Hollow Knight

it wasn't, tbh i just couldn't see wtf it was doing most of the time. pair that with constant AoE spam, bleed-procs and a few running sections, it was easily one of my most hated bosses in any game, ever. i was using Rellana's sword and was Scadutree level 15 and still just struggled so hard on it. i fucking hated every second fighting this piece of shit. the only reason Jori wasn't more hated was because that piece of shit had the healthbar of a fly, which was the only saving grace from making it the worst boss in the DLC tbh

@@gabrielg.e.j9060 I found the AoEs generally pretty easy to dodge, once I realized the dodge timing is a bit earlier than you first think it would be. And only the the second one ever really got distance while I was fight them, maybe I just got lucky on that. My main thing tho is that it just takes so much damage if you’re targeting the head, and I was using lightning, not fire. Three or four good hits or combos is all it takes to knock each health bar, and if you’re up close to it it tends to miss most of the attacks it throws in melee since they all go in front of the thing. Idk, I I tend to find enemies with a lot of AoEs pretty easy most of the time in From games honestly, they very rarely have any good attacks up close. Case and point is the Erdtree Avatars from the base game lol

I loved Scadutree Avatar, i did use Spear of the Impaler though. Just felt like classic, dodging things at the right times, and the subsequent phases logically built off of that. I think I could do it in melee well. It's my favourite of the Amygdala-likes.

I actually did manage to dodge the moons first time. For a few reasons 1 she is more a knight than a caster. So I wouldn't really expect her to throw a moon towards us. 2 throwing a moon would be a bit slow for the DLC 3 she really likes massive AOE attacks (her glintstone sword swipes.) But the big reason 4 they just felt like they were to high up So somehow I just thought "those are going to slam down" and thus jumped.

The Smithscript Daggers became my new anti-dragon weapon. Used them to kill the Lanseaxx ripoff and found out that you can just sit on Torrent and do drive by headshots and kill dragons easily. Had them doing over 1000 per charged throw at one point.
