This is super inconsistent. For my first two playthroughs I was able to do it every time, but on the third it just refused to work :( This is why I made a point of getteing the Lamb's Lure as early as possible.

I got it consistent by running into their faces and trying to "talk" to them. Not sure if the talk is placebo, but I did not have to fight one single one. Repeated multiple times.

This remake is so good. The ONLY thing I want is a 'hard' mode that turns off splash damage and MAYBE increases enemy HP a little. That's all I want.

Well... Since its a self-imposed challenge, you can just dont hit attack actions on basic attacks. This will not give you extra gauge, will not do splash and will "boost' monsters HP. But i do get what you mean, a hard mode would be cool.

The game would still be super easy even without splash damage. Mario RPG was never a hard game. I'd like a hard mode that adds a few extra moves to enemies and bosses and boosts their HP a bit. But yeah, you can always just do a self imposed challenge and have fun anyway.

I started a similar run a few days ago as well, but I avoided killing non-essential enemies *period*, meaning I avoided using stars to kill overworld enemies to level up. Something that really helps is getting the mystery egg, hatching the Lamb Lure, then getting Sheep Attack. Enemies arent killed, so it fits my restrictions, and I dont get any EXP. The main problem im running into is a LOT of the fights in Nimbus Castle include enemies that are immune to being transformed so I wind up having to run away anyway. I, however, will not avoid using the Lazy Shell or Super Suit once they're available. Especially since without leveling from the use of stars on the overworld, my party is far weaker than yours at the same point.

I've done this challenge in the original game and I avoided the stars because that ultimately breaks the challenge. It was not easy, and felt borderline impossible with nearly any boss after Moleville but was a lot of fun. Good luck!

Ive been doing the Low Level challenge in the remake and did the same thing alongside using the lucky jewel and hammer to avoid boss exp after Punchinello. Ngl Valentina and Dodo are bodying me pretty bad atm since Mario and Peach only have 30 and 50 hp atm, so I probably need to go buy some party bracers to make it by. Idk how people managed that back on the SNES when more boss abilities couldnt be blocked.

@@DreadnaughtZero mostly by using a ton of using a ton of good items like rock candies, bombs, bracers, red essences, pick me ups, etc. those are capped at 3 for each in your inventory at one time in this remake so it could be a lot more rough later on in some aspects (and interesting to me personally, i just beat bundt in my low level playthrough). the only saving grace i can think of os getting the star egg and hoping that spamming it with someone on lazy shell cheeses it enough, but i might ban star egg for my run too idk yet

Hold on.... You can skip the battle with Claymorton entirely by taking a specific path that allows you to talk to the chancellor. This makes you skip the fight.

Sadly, Bowser's damaging Special Moves kinda suck and get outclassed by his normal attack quickly. Nevermind the fact that the move ''Crusher'' (or literally ''Earth Cracker'' in german) looks absolutely badass!

Hey Tant, check out an old school game called Live A Live- even if you don't care for playing it (I'd love to see the video) it has some GREAT music that would be good behind dialogue. Bonus: there's no boats....unless you count spaceships. Space boats? I don't think they count since you should ALWAYS get a spaceship.

Marios Jump-Attack has an in-game passive ability that gets more powerful with each use. It goes up 1-2 damage with each 1-2 usages, thats why it did 40 damage on Hammer Bro 1 and then 42 on Hammer Bro 2. Equip Jump-Shoes so you can use on all enemies, it's absolutely game breaking for a few FP. I'm currently at the Pirate Ship doing 350-400 damage, pouring all Level-Upgrade Bonus into Magic for Mario.

I could honestly say that using a Star to gain levels kinda defeats the purpose of the challenge run since it's like you're fighting those battles when you run into them anyways. On the other hand, you can grind your Jump's power by continuing to use it, though if you're only fighting mandatory battles, there's only so many options you have for grinding that.

6:50 I know in the original game, Bowyer's attack patterns were actually determinant based on which button he has locked, with A-lock being the really bad pattern. So it's probably not just a coincidence or RNG that Bowyer relented once he went from A-lock to X-lock.

In the original game, The second battle vs Croco is simply IMPOSSIBLE without any armor, in lvl ,3 without the red essence hidden in the forest. The only way to win that is to obtain several MISS by pure luck, there is simply no capable strategy. And even, even obtaining the red essence, MISS is needed, although only a couple.

Oh nice, I'm currently working on this run, but I'm also banning Stars. It's to prepare me for the min level challenge where Mario stays Level 3 through the whole run. I also did allow myself to do optional fights, but to get past them or reap the rewards of them, I'm forcing myself to LOSE the Lucky! minigame for EXP.

I always thought Smithy had the star embedded in his chest in the original rather than hanging like a pendant on a necklace. I don't remember seeing any high-res art of original Smithy, so I couldn't say for certain if that was the original intent or not.

I think Croco in the mines is hidden until you hide in a similar way as his lackeys do. Could be a coincidence, but that’s how I got him to appear when I played.

This is the case, you have to hide, which is why there's so many more platforms. Stand on top of one and wait, and he will run on screen. Touch him and you can fight him.

Which reminds me. I just recently beat this game without equipping weapons a couple of times. I also didn't allow myself to use the super suit or the lazy shell armor just for the sake of a further challenge. I also didn't use stuff like the Attack Scarf, Booster's Charm, Quartz Charm, or the Troopa Medal just to spice my game up slightly. But I tell you what Smithy was rather easy either way with both his forms. During the time I defeated Smithy all my characters were around Level 30. I should be proud of myself though for being one of the first gamers to ever beat Super Mario RPG without equipping weapons though that's for sure. Either way my party during my fight against Smithy is as follows: Mario with the Hero Shirt and the Jinx Belt (In case Smithy switches to his magic head on his second form.) Geno with the Star Cape and the Defense Scarf Peach with the Royal Dress and the Safety Ring If anyone is looking for a challenge in Super Mario RPG and it's remake that's interesting yet fun then I highly recommend a weaponless challenge. If people can beat this game with no equipment then sure as heck a weaponless challenge is possible.

I knew they patched the glitch that could normally happen in the original. He couldn’t stop King Bomb from exploding, which normally ensures Magikoopa(this only works in the original) does nothing for the rest of the fight. Here it’s been fixed, as I expected and Wizakoopa(that’s his name for the remake) still acts even if King Bomb explodes.

Next challenge: low level run. It's very similar to Boss Only, but you abuse the lucky effect to get "doubly your exp" and only continue if you lose all exp. I'm pretty sure you're able to track the yoshi egg in remake, but that still means it's a 50% chance you can progress forward. And it's a 50% you get double exp or double coins. I've watched SNES runs of doing it in one sitting, and it can be like a 16 hour run lol

Not that you need it (because you freaking dominate this challenge), cou can avoid all battles and still get max levels by saving next to one of the star sections, getting all the xp you can using the star, then purposely dying before saving. When you start the previous save, you will have all the xp you collected in the last run.

This was good, always enjoy your breakdowns and talkings. Kinda sad this game, even reduced to THESE fights only, is this easy. I mean, I don't like games "hard mode", but it seems when you do a challenge run it SHOULD be pretty difficult. This kinda seemed easy. You weren't ever farming and it was always a "rinse+repeat" to beat everything.
