I remember my 40 year old roommate screaming in our game room at the emerald battle tower, screaming "THEYRE CHEATING DUDE"
@TheWonkster2 жыл бұрын
People love to argue that they don't cheat in any game. Like obviously they probably don't directly alter probability to make you lose or anything like that (though I've experienced some things that would make me a little dubious), but them knowing your team and bringing counter mons to it when you can't do that to them is indeed cheating. More recent battle-tower-type challenges are a little better and not fully showing off that they're cheating assholes, but gen 3 and 4 are horrible for it. It's like the game predecides at the start of each run whether it's going to make it impossible or not.

The Overheat was not a crit, but it was only a 5/16 range to kill (-4 flareon in the sun does 249-293). I'm only posting this comment to 1) Prove you are wrong 2) Prove I am better than you as your eternal rival 3) boost the algorithm by adding a comment. Kinda crazy you managed to do it without a Heracross. Thought for sure that was THE bug type to use.
@tiemen90952 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is the most powerful if you have 1 bug on your team but if your whole team is bug types, it doesn't really solve any of your weaknesses / problems. That's what makes the team building in this challenge really enjoyable - you come up with crazy teams that actually work, like this one.

Psychic team can be fast and fun: Starmie can be the lead with lum berry and 4 attacking moves to quickly dispose of weaker pokemons and the two mons in the back can cover Starmie's weaknesses and have setup (maybe trick + calm mind or something)

OK, I found it funny that you needed Hidden Power to have a decent bug type attack on Armaldo. :V

YES! Bugs finally got the glory they deserve! Well done! Ps: just curious. At the start you quickly went through everything you tried tested and changed on your team. Like moves. Pokemon. Etc. What kept going through my mind versus the run-killer T-tar was: "Maybe signal beam on volbeat or Silver Wind on Ninjask would have worked here." Were those just too underpowered (being bug moves) to be useful?

Tyranitar is so bulky, that even heracross needs to have a +Atk nature to kill max HP tyranitar with megahorn (and in fact, even that is still a range during the later sets - yeah, I know that it has brick break, but I am trying to make a point :D). Ninjask or Volbeat are not gonna win against that thing 1v1. +2 252+ Atk Ninjask Hidden Power Bug vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 362-426 (89.6 - 105.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO nope, not gonna happen :D (on a side not, silver wind CAN be nice on those if you can slot it in because of the proc chance but you are not gonna use that for ttar, unless you are at +4 attack)
@tiemen90952 жыл бұрын
Volbeats even gets Brick Break, which with the choice band ... doesn't OHKO Ttar. Not that it matters, the problem isn't the Ttar really, but the fact that it summons a parmanent sandstorm. That prevents Ninjask from pp stalling, because the sand negates leftovers recovery. So, even if you were to kill the Ttar 1v1, your volbeat is now choice locked into brick break. It can't ever trick. The next thing that comes out is going to destroy ninjask and Armaldo because they can't setup without trick. Even if you somehow would manage to double switch, back into Volbeat and get a trick off, the sandstorm is still up and you still can't set up.
@IschmarVI2 жыл бұрын
@@tiemen9095 well, it is the combination of both I'd say. Because not only does ttar summon the sand stream that so threatens those kind of teams, it also packs the STAB rock slide that poses a more immediate thread to bug types.

So I've watched each episode of the mono type series but I've never played emerald. So I'm kinda confused how does this 'round 8/9/10' work?
@johnhawkins53142 жыл бұрын
At rounds 8, 9 and 10 onwards the AI only uses the strongest Pokémon and almost exclusively uses Pokémon with 31 IVs in all stats and 508 EVs
@johnhawkins53142 жыл бұрын
For example, the AI will readily use Tyrantiars, Raikous,

That is why you see so many legendaries and pseudo-legendaries in those rounds.
@michael_betts2 жыл бұрын
The battle tower is 7 battles in a row and you get rewarded if you win, this is a round. Every time you beat 7 in a row without losing the enemies get harder for the next round, with round 10 being the point where the ai uses the "best" sets. At the seventh battle of round 10 you face a special boss and winning gets you a gold symbol to prove you beat it, which is why this always ends on round 10.

Was Rock Blast considered as Armaldo's Rock STAB? I'm sure the accuracy is why Ancientpower was ultimately chosen, but the amount of pokemon running Substitute in the battle tower would make that decision really hard for me lol
@tiemen90952 жыл бұрын
Substitute is actually super rare in gen 3 battle tower. Particularly with this strategy, if you trick them into substitute, it doesn't matter. They'll be out of pp, using Struggle while you 2HKO them instead.

once the opponent starts using struggle, or if they lock into double-edge, they take recoil damage and they can kill themselves before you're done setting up. You want to deal as little damage as possible until you're ready to sweep.
