On the length limit, It's also possible it was a structural support range limit. i'd be curious to see the bridge done a little closer to the ground with supports would continue and we'd see a better indicator of the curvature. Another possibility is that the curvature is what broke it creating the limit

I tried the "bridge around the world" type structure in No Man's Sky and hit the same issues - thought the world is rendered as round, the base areas are flat (and limited in range.) So what I'd do is build as far as I could, then create a new base. "Flat" for this new base aligned with the planet's surface again, so I ended up with a load of separate spans, each transitioning to the next at an odd angle. Still never got even a quarter of the way around the planet before it started bugging out, though...
@scragar8 ай бұрын
Astroneer had a closer comparison to this issue. The planets are round, but building flat at any given point really just means it's a tangent to the curve, if you build flat surfaces of any significant size you very quickly realise it's going up/down relative to the terrain. Got rather annoying as gravity is always towards the core so a large flat surface would eventually just become near vertical.
@vacuumdiagram8 ай бұрын
@@scragar my username is actually based off a short story that demonstrates that - a huge cube in space, the sides are completely flat, but the corners feel like mountains.
@Astraeus..8 ай бұрын
@@vacuumdiagramThat's kinda cool to think about. If you had a perfectly square cube floating in space that was large enough to produce it's own significant amount of gravity then walking outward from the center of any one of it's surfaces would basically give you the same effect as walking up a curved surface even though it would be completely flat....At very large scales the "curvature" of space/time makes flat feel curved and curved feel flat, and now that I've said this I'm going to have to remember to tell some of my buddies when they're high A.F just to watch them have an existential crisis thinking about it :P

It looks like the Devs learned from the first game. Originally, resources were only allowed to be carried by conveyor. Resources caused several bugs (like flying cars) and slowdown because of how many people would try to get on screen at once. Also, parts were only able to be collected by attaching them to your tech or putting them in a black-hole like SCU storage. I like the new storage, weapons, and plant enemies. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back the license system, if they haven't already.

You should build a bridge over a REALLY short and shallow river that turns into a spiral ramp tower halfway that you're forced to go up, that leads to an inner spiral ramp to get back down that then leads to the other side of the completely pointless bridge. something interesting i think about the grid being flat but the world being round, is where is the flat grid situated, if that makes sense. is it just; whenever you place something, if it's not attached to something else, it will default to level? if so you could build out one platform from a mountain, then find another mountain and build towards first, you would see they are at different angles. idk how any of it it works, just a thought

What if you devide the planet into 36 steps and build on every step a pillar with a huge platform? 🤔You will have a shape with 36 corners, which nearly looks like a circle. (360 degrees: 36 bridge pieces=10 degrees step).🛑=>🔴 If you reallly want to build this bridge and push the game to the limit like Josh did it, you might be able to let your dream come true with this idea. I don’t know weather the game mechanics are able to deal with couch a big structure, but you will never find it out, unless you try it. My over complicated idea: You have to build 36 single pillars with the same height (for example 30 blocks above sea level) and build very long platforms on top of them. The 36 bridge segments should be nearly touching each other. Each gap between them has 10 degrees step, which might be a problem of or your vehicle. Solution for the gap-problem: 1. You will try to fill them with full size blocks or ramps, with the angle facing downwards. 2. If it doesn’t work, try to find a glitch, which disables the collision during building 3. Build a vehicle that can jump the gaps or Build a bigger vehicle that can skip them completely
